Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

The usual.

"If it's not in the DCEU it's going to be awful."

When of course, it’s actually the complete opposite.

If at some point it’s announced that Batman will in some way be in this movie, it will gain my full support.

Slightly longer video than the last one.

Can anyone seriously tell me they wouldn’t want to see the Batman that would go along with the visual aesthetic this movie appears to have? A technologically stripped back, alternate universe, 80s Batman that would suit this (probably) R rated movie?
Because I do. I really, really, really do.

I want a tecnologically stripped back Gotham for sure. I was never a fan of nano machines, mega-portable endless sources of energy and so on. Keep it gritty.

Even though we dont know how the film will turn out, i still think phoenix was the perfect choice for the role. Itd be a shame if we didn't get to see him in a batman film

Speaking personally:

1) This is an Elseworlds story where the filmmakers are free to take whatever creative liberties they want. An Elseworlds Joker story unbound by established canon doesn't necessitate Batman's involvement.
2) We're already getting a Batman movie here in the near future that will presumably adhere more closely to the comic-book canon, so we're getting our Batman fix before long anyway.

I'm really not that stressed about it, to be honest. We've had Batman vs The Joker in some form or another in Batman (1966), Batman (1989), The Dark Knight, and Suicide Squad - not to mention several animated films. And should Reeves decide to make a trilogy of Batman films, it's possible The Joker pops up in there as well. The point being, we've seen the Batman/Joker dynamic on the silver screen a number of times already - some of which are pretty definitive. I don't mind them stretching out and trying something unique. I think a low-budget one-off film is inoffensive in the grand scheme of things.

Maybe he's not up for a bigger commitment like that. But if he was open to it I'd sign him on right now in blind faith.

I honestly can't remotely get excited or interested in this. I'm just not seeing the draw on a film focusing on the Joker character.

I'm digging his look. I'm pretty hyped for this myself, though. Some of those set pics... his face screams The Joker.

I think people will get used to stand-alone "DC Elseworld movies" once they announce a few more such movies. I mean, they can now make movies like Steven Spielberg's Black Hawks next.

You don’t see the draw in seeing one of the greatest living actors take on the role of one of pop culture’s greatest villain?

Just typing that out gave me a raging nerd *****.:O

Is this movie set in the 70s?

I'm calling it out now. First teaser trailer will feature a slowed down version of Steve Miller Band's "The Joker".

'Cause I'm a picker
I'm a grinner
I'm a lover
And I'm a sinner
Playin' my music in the sun
I'm a joker

Success of MCU-verse movies has given a hope to some DC fans, they want to see all DC characters in a unified shared DC universe, to them, anything outside of that means it is not worth the time. But there are some DC fans who hate the current DCEU and want it to end, and they want independent stand-alone DC movies unconnected to each other.

DC is try to do both, by launching "Else-worlds stories" and continuing DCEU. We will see how successful both are in near future. Nobody should be forced to follow the herd, if you dislike DCEU, then don't watch it just because others tell you to, similarly... if stand-alone movies don't interest you, then skip them, no need to watch those movies just because other fans are watching them.

I like that he smokes. Also his little preamble before the scene starts, reminds me of Heath prepping before a scene where he has to enter or exit a car in TDK. I wonder if he murders that chubby clown at some point or if maybe he joins his gang. Not crazy for a Joker origin story, but Phoenix is a great actor so I'm in anyway, even though he feels maybe a little old for the part, I wish it was "Gladiator Era" Joaquin.

The fact that he looks a bit older than than what people expected him to be for an origin movie makes it special, a different take then again, Jack Nicholson was older than Joaquin Phoenix when he played Joker in Batman (1989) and Ceaser Romario was not exactly a young lad when he played Joker.

This looks more perfect than it's legal. :o

According to IMDB -

  • Two time Oscar winner Mark Bridges is the Costume designer for this, his earlier work includes P.T. Anderson's Phantom Thread (2017)
  • Hildur Guðnadóttir is the music composer, who's earlier work was "Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018)"

Jesus, that article is even click bait. He's not The Joker. He's a regular guy. Again, people expecting to see the Joker at some point during this movie is going to be disappointed. He'll probably be in the last scene. This is more of a Taxi Driver, King of Comedy type film.

This is why I'm interested in the movie. The King of Comedy is an underappreciated movie, and something of a spiritual sequel to Taxi Driver. That it's being used as an inspiration for a movie about the Joker is exciting. A 70's era setting, Scorsese produced (and inspired), Joaquin Phoenix starring Joker movie? Now I'm intrigued.

In fact, I wouldn't mind if Joker didn't appear until the later half of the movie, with no transformation scene shown. I'm thinking of the scene from Taxi Driver where we see Travis standing on a street corner, and the camera pans up to show him sporting a mohawk.

The movie never shows us Travis cutting his hair into a mohawk, which makes it all the more jarring when we suddenly see him with one. I could see the movie doing something similar, with the movie showing us "Arthur", appearing on screen with full Joker makeup/regalia. Like, the makeup is just the final touch since he's always been the Joker.

I mean I can see how this version of Joker played by Joaquin Pheonix could lead into the more visceral and erratic version of Heath Ledgers performance. I mean the hair length is about the same if not a big shorter than Heaths.

Eh. I'm intrigued, but ultimately think this movie just doesn't need to happen. DC is throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks.
