Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

Dude, I don't want to start a fight. Stop acting to defensive. I'm not fighting you. If you want to have a discussion we can do it without using jokes or mocks.

It's not nonsense. I agree his movies in the past were bad. But what he's saying has a point. People (in America, at least) get offended at EVERYTHING these days. Look at the Jojo Rabbit outrage, or the Dave Chappele outrage, or the Joker outrage.

Both sides, not only "SJW", act like triggered *****es everytime something hurts their feelings. Look at Youtube with the Incel army and Twitter with the bluecheck army as examples.

Almost every single one of those quoted films/series got a lot of backlash. Specially Dave Chappelle and South Park. So i don't see what point are you making. And Jojo Rabbit got crucified by critics at MC.

Then stop using words you don't know the meaning to. When you say "triggered" what you really, want to say is "I view you as emotionally irrational, and therefore I don't have to consider your point of view seriously."

Well, i'm not American and my mother tongue isn't english, so i apologize if i made you angry you using that word.

Oh for the love of...

...look, the only reason you’re defending this puerile comment from Phillips is because he made a film you want to like, and you want to be popular. You wouldn’t be defending such a stupid point of view if he hadn’t made Joker.

Phillips being a bit of a d*ck has no effect on how good or bad Joker is, or your enjoyment of it. It literally won’t affect its box office or critical reaction.

I would. His point is correct whether you like him as a person or not. If the wrong person or people is offended by your comment you will get destroyed for it. Ask Dave Chappelle.

I think some of you are getting a wee bit oversensitive...nothing Phillips has said is nearly as bad as any of you make it out to be.

Changing topic, got a chance to see this one sooner than expected. I will watch it in 6 hours. So excited.

Will post a review after and my thoughs. A friend of mine saw it and called it the most depressing film he has seen.

I love Patton (just saw him live) but he is offbase and oversimplifying. And there has been plenty of backlash for many of the things he named.

God I dont even like Phillips that much but his comments are being proven true just by the people responding to it. It is like arguments I got into about the last Chappelle special where apparently I am ok with pedophilia because I thought the jokes were funny. And this was from people who are my contemporaries not wannabe SJWs on Twitter.

Better to just tone out the discourse and just focus on watching the movie when it comes out. It's not worth the brain cells.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts

Offense is not new and a majority of things people claim are offensive don't actually suffer

Chappelle still sells out arenas, Bill Burr, JOE Rogan still are hugely successful. Even Louis CK, an admitted sex criminal, still is making bank. Politicians, of any party, with multiple allegations are doing fine. A lot of very popular comedies have multiple rape, gay, and race jokes. Clearly being "offensive" isn't that big of a deal

It's just this weird little narrative about a bunch of cry babies. And it's not like offense is new. Andrew Dice Clay and Eddie Murphy got plenty of blowback back in the day for their jokes.

To paraphrase what Rick Gervais said: Say what you want to say, then it's up to you to care about whether people get offended or not. Like seriously, sack up

You got a good point there. Both sides are just minorities that take each other opinions too much in consideration. I think majority of the world just doesn't really care.

Exactly.

Phillips is just pissy because nobody liked Hangover 3. Simple as that. So he makes these stupid, redundant comments because of his fragile ego... and people leap to his defence just because he directed a film. smh.

There was a screening at Stockholm. People seem to have loved the movie there, too.

Cover Story: Joaquin Phoenix on Joker, Rooney, and River

Take some time and go through. There's an audio version there too. As for Phillips, he is the epitome of dudebro directors. He made crass comedies that just don't age well once everyone starts moving on. Similar to James Gunn who started as a edgy comedian and but grew as an artist. Some just can't and have to do something like Joker. But Phillips will always be a dudebro.

His movies will probably age fine. They’re still quoted a fair bit

He was a pretty good comedy director to me. I like Old school a lot and The Hangover is good too

Said this a few days ago, but the Hangover is going to age fine. That'll always be regarded as an early comedy classic of this millennium.

Yeah Burr talks about this a lot. Any time he's asked about his "controversial" style he immediately goes on one of his beautiful rants about how 100 people whining on twitter isn't a "controversy", it's a self-perpetuating cycle of anger and then attention and then more anger aimed at those 100 people, and then wake up the next day and do it again about something else.
