Is Walsh saying there was very mixed reactions at the early screening?
He comes across as a bit of a dick slyly dismissing the positive reactions as "yeah those people already had their minds made up anyway that it'll be Oscar worthy."
Honestly, the fact that he thinks it being a "Joker" film could hinder it makes me wonder if he already had his mind made up about the movie beforehand. that's a very A-hole thing to do.

You'll be happy to know that two of those things don't happen in the scriptIf the film makes out The Joker to bethen that really will be bull****.a heroic figure...
Let’s just make Jigsaw, Hannibal Lecter and Michael Myersand have done with itgood guys too,
I do like the idea that Flecksuffers from a kind of Tourette’s syndrome that makes him laugh. That’s clever.
But the Fleckand Bruce Wayne are brothers twist is just godawful though. Straight out of bad day time soap operas. Smacks of a ham fisted attempt to be different from Nolan’s ‘Joker as random force of nature’ approach, by tying Fleck in with Wayne at the most personal level. It’s horrible. Super hoping it’s one giant misdirect.
Expanding on his point....
If you wanna know the truth about your concerns:
Arthur is more analogous of the mass shooter of today. Someone who wants revenge against the system that treats him like trash. While you understand why he does what he does...he's not a good person.
As for the brothers thing...its a lie told by his mother. They're not brothers.
Ah... so did I read the spoiler right aboutFleck and Wayne not being brothers, and it’s just something his mother made up, because she’s nuts?
And also that he’snot made out to be a heroic figure? The leader of an anti elite movement?
Fleck and Wayne are not brothers. The script views Fleck with a level of contempt, and he inspires a terrorist/militia movement that ends up killing a lot of prominent people. He's a mentally ill man who gets **** on a lot by life throughout the film
This sounds like it's going to be a really dark and sinister character study. I love it! Just what I was expectingExpanding on his point....

Me too. This sounds like it's going to be a really dark and sinister character study. I love it! Just what I was expecting
I'm really hoping for that as well but they seem really intent on emphasizing this "broken man " ****Or they may go with the theory that this whole story is just something he made up to tell the audience.
