Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

Good....good. It's funny how October this year is full of non-horror flicks but flicks that should by all rights be summer blockbusters.

The film's rating is out:

Rated R for STRONG BLOODY VIOLENCE, DISTURBING BEHAVIOR, LANGUAGE AND BRIEF SEXUAL IMAGES
I fully expect some people to completely ignore the rating and showup at the theaters expecting a jolly good "fun" movie.

Absolutely! Despite all the marketing behind this that I'm sure will highlight its dark content, parents will still take their children expecting Batman to show up to save the day.

I'd honestly have been surprised if it was rated anything less. Definitely does not look like a movie for the kids.

"hey Deadpool was rated R, ergo this must be in the same boat!"

^^ "Dont worry Timmy I'm sure Batman is gonna show up soon and beat up the Joker....aaaaanytime now....oh."

This is playing the New York Film Festival too.

Description from the NYFF page:
"The Joker has gone through many transformations and iterations, but his origin story has never been as vividly or shockingly imagined and realized as it is here. Join us for a special screening and discussion with the creative team behind this truly disturbing vision, led by director Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix."

WB really pushing for that Oscar race

Fantastic article. I honestly believe this could be one of the best CBM's in recent years, even though we technically can't call it a comic book film I guess. Even with just one trailer, and some articles its becoming quite clear we have something truly special on our hands.

Joaquin Phoenix is gonna be so good in this. He was one of the top 3 actors working when The Master came out, and Day Lewis retired and Philip Seymour Hoffman unfortunately passed away, so I feel confident in calling him the best right now.

Yeah, those were my top 2. Hoffman was always my pick for Penguin for the longest time. Tragic what happened, he was incredible with Joaquin in The Master

Yeah, he'll definitely make the character his own like actors before him, but unlike Jack and Heath, this is like a "from the ground up" interpretation.

I need to see this film now. I cannot wait to see the layers upon layers of Phoenix’s performance and the thematics of the film. I expect this film will cause a ton of discussion and may be polarizing among audiences

Studios have to be creative if they're not Disney, which books all the prime release dates 5-7 years in advance.

Basically, almost every month is fair game for a potential blockbuster now, except for January. Movies like Black Panther, IT, Venom, and GOTG broke the typical release mold for blockbusters.

It would not surprise me if Joker surpasses the higher end of tracking for a potential $95M-100M opening, if audiences love it. Then I expect WB to start booking early October dates for the next 2-3 years, a la the post-Labor Day slots for their New Line horror films.
