Fincher, Kubrick, Scorsese. All Phillips’ doing is aping styles instead of finding his own voice.
Inspiration and aping are different things. And from what the reviews say, the directing and cinematography is incredible. If taking inspiration from Kubrick and Scorsese was aping, then 90% of directors today would be terrible. Those two changed cinema.Fincher, Kubrick, Scorsese. All Phillips’ doing is aping styles instead of finding his own voice.
This is one of your dumbest posts and you post a lot of dumb things.lol
Didn't Lord Feige jump on the civil war train after BvS was announced? Nah, right.
Agreed. This movie is basically ripping off the plot of The King of Comedy.Fincher, Kubrick, Scorsese. All Phillips’ doing is aping styles instead of finding his own voice.

If you think taking inspiration from other movies is a bad thing you should really start to watch other movies besides cbm. Every classic takes inspiration or a plot point from other classic. That's how art works. Let's not act like it's something horrible that Phillips somehow invented because it looks ridiculous.Agreed. This movie is basically ripping off the plot of The King of Comedy.

How so?
But I already see the naysayers coming in. I feel like it's going to be another one of those "it was good until it wasn't anymore" type of reviewed films.
He saw the trailer, but not seen the movie. It makes sense.
Hell, I've read the script for this and that is pretty much in the garbage after Phillips changed most of it now.
I mean... The last guy who won an Oscar for this role died long before even being nominated . Not much opportunity to campaign for anything there and he still pulled it off lolJoaquin's lack of PR promotion in general is holding me back from being all in as him winning the Oscar. I just don't see him keeping up with that awards type of attitude all through out. Actors sorta need to be on a campaing trail of sorts at the end of the season. It would be hilarious if he does win and he shakes his head, like before.

I'm expecting those scores to drop quite a bit once the mainstream American critics get their hands on it. Anything north of 75% will be a victory in the end. Also, let's not forget the fact this movie has a 9.26/10 AR. Higher than any other Venice movie at the moment. And 8.33/10 in Top Critics. That's pretty insane.

I'm not for or against this film. I just know how misleading early reviews can be compared to reviews when the film gets a wider release. That's all. I've seen it before in other films like Birth of A Nation. What naysayers...in the past 3 hours 3 new reviews have come in and the fresh percentage on RT went from 85 to 86%. It has a grand total of 4 negative reviews on that site. The trades have all loved it, the nerd sites seem to be drooling over it and the audience in Venice obviously dug it. Dont take the Twitter Nazis as indicative of anything...
This is not early fan reviews or nerd bloggers getting bribed with special showings...this is press and fans at a pretty big film festival. Pet Semetary never was thought to be worthy of any praise like thaat and the early reviews were pretty much known to be outliers and that the film was gonna crash and burn. Outside of the Twitter Nazis no one has thought that about this film for months.
The point is less about onslaught of artsy CBMs in case of Joker's BO success and more about their nature. Taking unique piece of work, taking it's style and inject iconic comic book characters there. It's about creative bankruptcy. I'm not talking specifically Joker, because I barely know anything about it and didn't even read the early draft. That sounds so hyperbolic its not even funny. Even if Joker somehow made a billion dollars Marvel is not going to suddenly start churning out R rated dark gritty drama character pieces starring Antman and Black Widow.
All this movie’s success will do is embolden DC to take more risks in doing more lower budget, eccentric films in the future which is GOOD thing, people. Sheesh.
Exactly. How do you think Bill Murray lost to Sean ****ing Penn? Or how Jim Carrey has yet to get a nom? They don’t do campaigning.Joaquin's lack of PR promotion in general is holding me back from being all in as him winning the Oscar.
