The Joker Thread - Part 1

Was Mad Max really the lead of Fury Road though? I'm not a Mad Max devotee, so I'm only asking. I've heard he takes a major backseat to all the action in that movie.

Sam Rockwell’s another good candidate, but at 51 he may be pushing the age ceiling for the role too

But see, that right there is why I like him for Joker. Give him an evil character to sink his teeth into. It's out of the box for him.
Did a wonderful job as a cult leader in Martha Marcy Mary Marlene. He's not evil in Winter's Bone but he's scary and intimidating as ****.

He's top billed buddy. It's not called Furiosa: Fury Road.

That's an interesting question. He isn't the driving force of the plot but his emotional journey is at the heart of it in a reasonably subtle way. I'd say he's co-leads with Theron.

Google "character actor definition" and this is what comes up:

an actor who specializes in playing eccentric or unusual people rather than leading roles.

So Eddie is right. If you're wanting a "character actor" for The Joker, guys like Ledger, Nicholson, Phoenix, and Leto aren't it.

Okay, Hardy is certainly the lead when it comes to billing and marketing.

This argument is getting mind-numbingly anal ("who do you read first left to right", are you kidding me), so I'm taking a break until we're on something else.

It’s not anal, it just correct. You’re folding yourself into pretzel shapes when Hardy is very clearly the top billed actor.

Think I mentioned this quite awhile ago for a very left field choice:

Sachs Baron Cohen

I know his stuff is hit and miss, but he seems has been transitioning to more dramas lately. Haven’t seen his work in The Spy yet.

Not sure if he could pull off a homicidal maniac, though.

He's phenomenal in The Spy.

One idea I had though, might sound a little "out there" but just hear me out......green hair.
Ewwwww. He's a dude, not some flamboyant dandy. He should have a dirty suit and he NEEDS to have smeared makeup. He likes chaos so he needs to look dirty.

What if it's like.....dirty green? Like a bad dye job? And all shaggy and disheveled. Cuz, chaotic.
