The Joker Thread - Part 1

Guys... Cameron Monaghan is doing some absolutely phenomenal work in these last few episodes of Gotham season 4. It's like The Joker of The Dark Knight Returns walked right out of the pages.

I already thought he was great as Jerome, but Jeremiah is on a whole new level.

I hope the Joker shows up in the solo film

I've been fairly mixed on Cameron, but he's definitely hit his groove with the latest episode.

Acting is crazy is very, very, hard to pull off. The performance aspect of it can easily be transparent, and that's something both Jared and Cameron suffered from. Thankfully with this latest iteration it's been toned down a lot more, allowing Cameron's delivery and presence to shine through.

I just think it's amazing how Cameron gets to play two different sides of Joker's personality, and his Jerome was already a mishmash of Heath, Jack, Mark, even Death Of The Family Joker , but it's refreshing to see Joker brought back to his roots as a coldblooded, straightforward killer and a calculating mastermind after soooo many "LOLZ SO RANDOM AND KOOKOO KRAZY XD " Jokers again and again, especially after the worst and most tryhard example of that recently with Leto.

So I get that it's nice to see him do something a bit more subtle, but that thing you just described...that's The Joker as he's existed for, oh, 80-85% of his history.

So we can't try something else for a change ??? Just same old same old ??

I agree, he's been doing a great job on Gotham.

Cameron’s Joker is fantastic. The last episode blew me away. I enjoy Gotham more than anything the DCEU has given us.

I don't watch GOTHAM, but why does The Joker exist before Batman?

Isn't Bruce still a kid?

Yes. The show has most of the villains existing while Bruce is still a kid.

I think the Joker aspect of Gotham has been an embarrassment. Hopefully JOAQUIN saves the day soon.

Ehh, for all the iffy writing on Gotham, the performances and casting are so nailed. Better than the movies in most respects.

It's always weird to me that people have this finite idea of Batman when there's like 50 million different versions of the character and mythos.

Really liking Cameron’s performance more as Jeremiah than Jerome. Can’t wait to see the
next two episodes!

I mean, some of the decisions they make with some characters, plot points, etc. Do kinda irritate me (pretty much why I just don't generally watch it unless it's an episode with Cameron tbh) but I don't expect **** to be 100 percent copy-and-paste of the comics.

Idk I think the fact they're developing a Joker solo movie kind of telegraphs that Matt Reeves isn't planning on using the Joker any time soon. So this move is likely to placate Jared Leto and his management with a movie being "in development" but not happening for awhile or at all.

Yeah. It's basically WB having their cake and eating it too. Give audiences their Joker fix without imposing the character on Reeves.

There is no real "Joker/Leto" fix though. If SS was the end of that iteration, no value will have been lost and a backlash wouldn't suddenly occur.

I feel like WB, ironically enough, is being too loyal to their employees. To an extreme fault. Or they fear the several recasts of big-name characters will be a concession on their part that they messed up. So they trudge along and double down instead. I sense the same type of desperate attempts at reconciliation with Ben.

If the relationship doesn't work, just let it go. It's going to hurt bad at first, but if you nail the next castings, people will eventually forget about it. I'm not a fan of sacrificing the future of this universe on actors who either are incapable or unwilling.

I so wish some other big studio buys out DC. This behind-the-scenes runaround is maddening for a fan.

Hence Zack Snyder being hired for three consecutive DC movies... or 2.5 if you want to get technical. :loco:

I get why they wouldn't want to recast any major roles as that press isn't great but would people really be that upset over recasting Leto? Or if we somehow got Phoenix's Joker to be the main DCEU Joker? I would be bummed more so out of the missed potential.

I wouldn't be too bummed if they recast Leto, though part of me would feel as though he was never given a chance to play the Joker to his true potential. It wasn't as though he was the star role who botched the job in an otherwise good film. Rather, he had a few poorly written scenes to work with.

That's how I feel.

Agreed. The comics have been rebooted what, three or four times now in the past 30 years or so? The 1966 universe, the Burton verse, the animated series, the Nolan verse...makes me laugh when I see fans calling out Gotham for doing their own thing when every single previous project has done the same.
