The Joker Thread - Part 1

I don't really think it's a cliche. I think it really comes down to how it's handled. "Joker: Killer Smile" did this perfectly IMHO, it's like a mix of Silence of The Lambs and Jacob's Ladder with about 10% of the 2019 origin movie in there for good measure.

I don’t need him to be the main villain in any story. He’s gotta be in the trilogy though. I’d be upset if we got 3 movies and a few spin offs on HBO....and no Joker? Yeah that would suck. I come across so many comments about how they’ll hate it if Joker is in this trilogy. I understand fatigue but I find those comments ridiculous. He’s Batman’s greatest rival!! Come ahhhhhn.

Yeah, I feel you. If they actually hold off on Joker in films until Reeves brings him back in, hopefully, the third film, that'd be a solid 8+ years from now.

I will be very disappointed if we don’t get Joker in this trilogy because it’s been 12 years since we had a good one.

I'm kinda leaning more towards TDKR-inspired Joker now. I think that could fit Reeves' universe.

It's fun to imagine how he will envision the Joker and how he will challenge Batman

Yeah, obviously there's still a number of other interpretations of Joker that could fit in Reeves' universe, but when you stop and think about it, something similar to the Joker in TDKR really fits with what we've seen so far. You could easily believe someone like that existing in the grittier, Fincher-esque world Reeves seems to have created.

So we can cross out Andrew Garfield with spidey 3 looking increasingly to be a live action spider-verse?

Not really sure. SM3 is set for 2022 (as far as we know), and I'm willing to bet that we don't see Joker until a sequel or the third film, which could theoretically be a long ways away.

I get the whole concept done for fanservice and what have you, but I'd be a little disappointed if having him return as Spider-Man means that we won't see him as The Joker (and that's if they want an A-lister).

I count 12 months.

But honestly, the last time we saw two actors on screen together who portray Joker and Batman, it was 12 years ago. Which is good. Let’s say we see glimpses of the Joker in Reeves’ first two movies and finally the big showdown in the third movie. Late 2024/early 2025 will likely be the time frame for a sequel. 2027 for the third movie. That’ll be 19 years since Ledger squared off with Bale. When TDK dropped, it was 19 years since Nicholson squared off with Keaton.

Of course...that’s if Affleck and Leto don’t get their shot on HBO in a few years. But that wouldn’t be on the big screen.

12 years ago feels like a much longer timespan to me. I was transitioning from first to second grade when TDK was released; I remember being super bummed when I wasn't allowed to watch it, but now I see why lol

This is a relatively minor nitpick, but if they don't wanna give him the purple trenchcoat and fedora because "too much purple would be too stylized" or whatever, then make it grey like in Mask of The Phantasm.

I like making people feel old. It makes me happy.

I doubt you were 9 if you were coming out of first grade haha.

Y'know what, then I had JUST turned eight then. Just three days after my birthday when TDK came out. When I was nine I started having panic attacks. Third grade sucked. Fourth was okay. Fifth was better.
