The Joker Thread - Part 1

Because he stinks!

Another possibility is Aaron Taylor-Johnson. He's consistently getting studio work, but still has some indie cred too.

I genuinely think he’s a crappy actor. Not nearly the powerhouse that he has been given every opportunity to become. Studios have pushed this dude hard and he is really lame..

Yeah, Melling can do an American accent. Or at least, he does a Southern accent in The Devil All The Time.

Interestingly enough, the more I look at Melling's face, the more I see a bit of a resemblance to Brian Bolland's Joker in there.

This dude was the best part of Buster Scruggs and that movie was stacked with great actors. I still don’t see him as Joker but he’d be perfect as Hatter. I think he excels when he’s a little more low key than Joker would be.

Aaron was good in Nocturnal Animals. Flat everywhere else. He’s in Tenet isn’t he?

Melling has a bit of a Joker vibe but there are better choices for Mr J. I’m not a big fan of Killing Joke or his look in that graphic novel so the comparison shots are a turn off for me. But the guy is a good actor so i’d be open to seeing what they do with his face.

I’m totally on board for the Mad Hatter choice though.

I’m watching The Devil All the Time on Netflix right now and Bill Skarsgard is giving a great performance. I tend to think fan casting him is rather bland since it felt so derivative of Pennywise, but he could give us a new Joker.

I'm so sick of the Bill Skarsgard fancasts at this point, even if I was one of those people back in 2017. He has a good look for the character though, it's just that the Pennywise thing makes him way too obvious a choice. Even so, he still would've been known from that bland Castle Rock show, so as an up-and-coming actor at that time he probably would've fit right in with the rest of the cast.

Started watching it. He’s fine so far. I like him better when he’s not saying a word. Subtlety might be his strength. His Joker would be as bad as Leto’s.

Call me crazy, but I always thought that beyond the surface differences, his Pennywise felt like a total copy of Tim Curry's. I never bought into the hype over his Pennywise.
He's more feral than Curry's, I think. He WAS a little over the top, but at the same time he was playing a demon doing an intentionally bad clown impersonation to season his victims with fear, so I'll give him a pass.

He has a great look for Joker, but his role as Pennywise makes him a little too obvious. Which is a shame to me because I think he could probably pull it off.

Just from that clip alone, the way he moves, his eyes...i’m getting Joker vibes.

Yeah, I'm kind of flabbergasted that I haven't heard much about Harry Melling's post-Harry Potter endeavors as an actor. Looking back at what he's been up to, Melling seems to have really proven himself as one of the best actors to come out of that franchise alongside Daniel Radcliffe and obviously Robert Pattinson himself.

And Melling definitely seems to have a similar caliber of acting chops that would fit alongside the rest of the existing cast that Reeves has assembled for this iteration of Batman characters. No idea how likely he is to wind up being cast, but it definitely feels nice to have another potential name in the ring that hasn't been talked to death about (yet).

August Diehl needs to be brought back. I’m dying to know if he can shake his accent. Time to go down the YouTube rabbit hole.

I was about to mention him before you beat me to it but I already knew he'd be right up your alley lol

His whole look here would be perfect for Joker should he happen to get the part IMHO:

The It movies were terrible.
I quite liked the first one. Chapter 2 however, felt super shallow; it didn't feel like there were any stakes and at times feels like it was made by a different director.

Problem for me is I love the book, and these movies just felt like a bastardization of the material.

I still haven't read the full book yet, but I can see how the film adaptations would feel underwhelming

I liked the characters for the most part in the first movie, but all of the “horror” was incredibly lame. Part 2 was trash. I didn’t care for “Mama” either.

Damn. I just saw Multiple Maniacs today and Divine has so many qualities that I would like to see in Joker. Divine’s performance actually reminded me a bit of Joaquin’s Joker “they couldn’t carry a tune to save their LIVES!”.

I’m all for a Joker that plays loose with gender. That’s why I want Toni Collette! Tell me this isn’t totally Joker:

It’s not totally Joker.

I'd like to see a Joker who makes a point of always having his massive hulking schlong on display. Big meaty schlong, thick hairy testicles. It'd serve as a warning to other criminals.
