It's there...but it's a very grotesque, gnarly sort of version of it. But I actually find it more gross than scary. I think end of the day, I'd just like to see him with a fuller head of green hair, some white makeup on the face and bright red lips when he's the fully formed "Joker". That's all. It think it would really crank up the Joker-ness of it all by a significant amount.

I'm not gonna be upset if they don't do that though...I don't hang my hat on the aesthetic choices as be-all, end-all of these movies. But I see a work in progress here. Reeves has made it clear that he is not yet "The" Joker.
 
I do think what type of suit he wears will determine if it'll make the look feel more "Joker". a purple suit, or some form of purple, possibly a fedora if they go that route or they can go the Greg Capullo route and have him wear all black. something to bring out the pale aspects, and some of the red if there is any.

Fedora would be pretty rad to see make a comeback. I feel like at the very least, red lipstick should be a given. I think that's more or less accepted canon in general, IE- you see him applying it in Dark Knight Returns.

Joker's sense of style is definitely a big part of each incarnation so it will be interesting to see that for sure.

I'd rather not get makeup again because Ledger and Phonix already did that route and think would take away from this jokers identity.

I think red lips are a must though and I would love to seem him "freshen up his smile" with lipstick before declaring himself Joker or something


The only problem is his lips are already red anyways.

Really curious on the type of style or clothes he'd gonna wear what weapons he wil use etc.

Yup. I think those things are kind of essential. Even with how grotesque he looks, I think some form of clown aesthetic should be there to say "yeah, this monster is the Joker". Because if not, then we may run into an issue where if they introduce Two Face, it may end up feeling too similar in a way.
 
I would really like to see some type of variation of the laughing gas in this version.

Agreed. I had a friend sincerely ask me if that was Two-Face when we saw the movie.

I’ll admit ignorance here, as someone who’s read the books for over 30 years I’ve not seen this. But I can totally get with this and see the inspiration.

It’s a new visual era for our Joker now. And we’ll have to move forward with what we are being delivered.

This character should be disturbing, he should be unsettling. In the past (comic wise) it was his actions more than his appearance, but if his looks shake the general viewers and the performance compliments that, I’m all for it: it’s the FCKN Joker. We should be frightened. In every way possible. Look at Our new Batman in the new scene. He’s extremely uncomfortable. That’s exactly how the Joker should make you feel.
 
I am by no means trying to start a war over the internet with everyone, but naturally there is some discourse online over this new Joker design potentially demonizing normal people with deformities or disfigurements.

While that is a very valid angle and one I can even kind of agree with a lot of points people are making.......at the end of the day, there's not a whole lot of new ground to cover visually with this character so the idea of him being deformed is an interesting one. It's not like Batman's laughing at his deformity, and if anything if they touch on it at all, it won't be painted in such a bad light.

I highly doubt this will be a real thing. It just sounds like another example of “internet people” trying to grasp onto something “controversial” which really isn’t. This is why I haven’t been involved in forums for so long. And if it is. I’ll take up my leave again. Discussing comic characters in film is one thing, but comparing those things to unfortunate real life gear and getting deep is completely missing the point of why media like this exists. It’s an escape. and any intelligent person who appreciates art, whether it be film or paper media (comics in the traditional sense) should understand that.
There are plenty of films and shows that delve into the unfortunate, a Batman film isn’t going to confront those issues.
Watch David Lynch’s Elephant Man or the plethora of other films which deal with confronting deformity, like Mask.
Let’s all remember that this is a comic book film, it’s removed from reality, regardless of how “grounded” it’s meant to be. For goodness sake

This reminds me of when we first saw the Riddler, and people were speculating on what kind of suit he would where, and all I could think of was "this is not a guy who even owns a suit". Same with Penguin and a monocle, I have a hard time envisioning these characters as they are now with how they normally appear in comics/cartoons.

And the thing is, the way these characters are typically depicted is entirely due to the time they were created. In 1940, men worse suits. Even in films depicting a more dishevelled, down on his luck character, they're still usually wearing a suit, with their shirt tucked in. That was just the style. In 2022, though, it seems mostly anachronistic.

Even the Joker having makeup seems kind of pointless given how white his skin already looks. And his lips are so gnarled, so lumpy, I can't even imagine how he would put on lipstick.

Yeah Riddler set the tone for how horror like the villans will look.
 
So, if this scene would have made it to the final cut, would we also have had a scene where Batman decides he needs to seek Joker's advice? I'd assume we wouldn't have just had an abrupt cut to the cell with no setup. At the very least, the audience would need some dialog explaining who this guy who looks and sounds just like the Joker is, and why Batman needs his specific advice over any other criminal Batman has caught. Because even if Joker isn't yet "The Joker", he's obviously not just anyone.

im 99% sure i know which scene preceeds the joker one.

It even ends with a shot of batman looking at the "to the batman" card with some clear intent. I feel like there's an establishing shot of arkham right after and then we go to the deleted scene.

Isn't this also the scene where Gordon tells Batman that he seems to think Savage's death was deserved ?
Yeah, it really is the perfect set-up for the Joker scene to come right after, nice deduction !
