I'm with MM in that I'm sick of the "Gothem must be destroyed" plots.
I wouldn't mind a "Batman must be destroyed" plot.

Has anyone considered that it will have nothing to do with Gotham city?
I think this is going to be a more personal story plot... the people who crossed the joker.. maybe even the joker trying to take over the gang boss Moroni leads.
that would be nice but i think it sounds a bit small fry for the joker.
taking over america is more like something he would try to do.
I'm kind of hoping for the Jokers 5 Way Revenge feel. After getting his plans foiled by Batman at first The Joker goes on trying to take out his former gang members. The thing is that he'll take out subways and buildings full of people trying to kill one guy.

I'm also hoping that the Joker is inspired by some classic movies and figures. Sure we all know about Clockwork but The Third Man, The Exorcist, The Warriors and Charles Manson can all be parts of a great Joker.
It fits with the sides alright. Suspicious of its veracity though - we've had a few 'plot leaks' that have been pure B.S.Hi, first time poster here. I spotted this on batmovienews.com, referring to a forum where someone whose cousin or something is the TDK location manager, claims he knows the general plotpoint for the movie:

Anyway, I know many people make false claims about this, but his plot seems suits with the sides. What do you think, guys?

Actually when Joker thought he killed Batman he got plastic surgery and became a very productive citizen under the name Joseph Kerr.As has been said before, without Batman, there is no Joker. He needs that yin to his yang to keep going. It's all about the constant struggle for him. He wants to be the one to take out Bats, but having him gone would drive him even more insane.

Anyway, what I was told was that the Joker's original plan is thwarted, so he responds by saying he's going to destroy the city. Yeah, yeah, we've heard this all before, right?
Well, not really. Because that's not what he actually planned to do. Everyone panics and evacuates on the city ferries which is exactly what Mistah J wants.
What follows is pretty much what was in the sides regarding the two boats. The Joker rigs two of them with explosives - one carrying civilians, the other prisoners - and makes them choose whose going to die.
