Yea maybe it could be interesting if a sub plot in the third focuses on Dr Harleen Quinzell talking with Joker. Then at the end of the film someone breaks into Arkham and springs Mr J. Sorta along the lines of "Mad Love". Not too much time spent on it, just have it as a small sub plot in the background of the main story arc.

Joker should have no role in the third movie. Lets move onto new villains.

How about Robert Knepper as Joker? He looks just like the comic book Joker, whereas, I feel Joseph Gordon Levitt looks just like Heath Ledger's Joker. Someone made this diagram comparing Knepper to The Killing Joke Joker.

He looks like him, but I don't want to hire an actor based on looks. I want them to hire an actor based on skills. Depending on who they would get, I'd decide if I'd want Joker back.

They should refrence him in the 3rd movie, ( maybe that's how they could incororated Harley Quinn in the movie, the Joker has been in Arkham for a while and Harley falls for him, and tries to exact her revenge on batman.) and maybe they could get some one to recreate Joker's voice, but they never show his face, like if he was speaking from behind bars. or not I'm just start ramble now

No role...Maybe showing his holding cell in Arkham would be nice...They could even go as far as placing Heath's laugh track behind it...but no role, let's see more villians

Most likely that will be the case if the Joker were to appear. I want to see more villains though, such as Riddler etc. The Jokers might have a role in the next film since he didnt die, but really I dont want them to concentrate on the Joker in the next film.

cause its such good practice to cast before you even decide what the movie'll be about.

Even if they don't recast, I'd like to have at least a scene at the end of the credits where it becomes apparant that the Joker has escaped from Arkham.

Except if that happens the there might be pressure from fans to have the Joker appear in the fourth movie. I don't know if any future directors want to have the task of outdoing Ledger's Joker on their hands.

What so Joker shouldn't appear in a film again incase they can't "outdo" Ledgers Joker?

Acting isn't a game of one-up-manship. It's about exploring a character.

Heath Ledger gave one interpretation of the Joker, someone else can and will do another. They will be compared, and people will have a preference. But that doesn't make the latter performance any lesser a performance.

Think of all the people who have played James Bond. They all have a distinct character, even though 'James Bond' hasn't actually developed over the last 40 years (with the exception of Daniel Craig). Why not allow that to happen to the Joker? We've already got two distinct Joker portrayals, keep em coming I say.

Some people prefer Sean Connery to Roger Moore, but they're both equally as worthy performances. Imagine, in 20 years time, people had preferences ranging between actor X, Y, Z, Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson. That'd be awesome, as well as faithful to both the character and the craft which Heath Ledger was so ****ing good at.

I've been saying stuff like this for months Pro. If Joker is re-casted in the next one or even the next one after that the person who gets the gig HAS to put their own spin on it, I don't want to see an imitation of Ledger and we don't need one. The thing with Joker is that there is many ways he can be portrayed and still be Joker, so if someone else comes in and has different ideas or whatever then I think they should be given a chance and not written off before we even see the performance like some people in this thread are doing. The people who think that the Joker will have to be an imitation of Heaths if he is used again obviously don't know much about Joker.

I know its been mentioned before but this new pic further shows it. (Just if Heath was indeed recasted)

I love it that my shortened name is 'Pro'.

No really I do.

And the above pic of Heath is awesome.
Gordon Levitt... not so much.

I wouldn't want the Joker recast on basis of similarity to Heath. Go for something different.

Because clearly the first priority in his name being mentioned, is the close resemblance to Heath. JGL's a fine actor, but he doesn't have anywhere near the same range, he's too small, and looks a decade too young.

Looks shouldn't be a factor in casting this role, especially when the makeup made Heath virtually look like a completely different person. There are manips in this forum that made Johnny Depp, Guy Pearce, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar look just like TDK Joker. Those 3 don't even look alike.

Trust me I'm on top of the list of people who is against the recast of Heath Ledger, but I just put JGL in the ring because I've noticed Nolan likes to use smaller level actors to fit bigger roles. Instead of casting big face icons such as Johnny Depp.

He just chooses who he thinks would be right for the role regardless of them being smaller level or bigger level. He didn't choose Heath because he was unexpected, he chose Heath because he felt he was fearless and after they spoke a few times they both had the same vision for TDKs Joker.

If the Joker is to be recast, it shouldn't be purely on the basis of who looks most like Ledger or who can do the best impression. It should be on acting ability, obviously, and that's what should always matter. Otherwise, we'd have Crispin Glover as the Joker.

Though, I think there should be some focus on creating a performance that is similar to Ledger's. Not a carbon copy (that would be insulting, both to Ledger and to the intelligence of the audience), but there should be be some performance conitinuity. With that (after having said something else), the actor should bring something new. Like I said, it shouldn't be an impression of Heath Ledger. The character should evolve, as all characters do, and you'd be surprised to find how subtle it is.

Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

....very Joker-like.

Alice in Wonderland is a pretty good thing for Burton to be ****ing.
