Ok, I saw the movie last night before work. It's very good. I'll be seeing it again tonight before work again thanks to my tax refund. Easily my favorite movie of the year so far knocking Book of Eli out of the top spot. I'd rate this at about 3 & 1/2 stars out of 4. The beginning is a little akward as has it's moments that just didin't hold my attention so well but then it just keeps building and each act is better than the last. The climax is awesome and I liked the
gatling gun
scene even better than the one in the first Matrix movie. It was just more of a "hell yeah!" scene than it was in the Matrix. It had more emotion attached to it. Hit Girl is great but then you've all heard that before. But mark Strong OWNS in this movie. So good. He'll be an awesome Sinestro. Ok, gotta sleep now so I can wake up this evening early enough to catch another viewing before work.

P.S. - SEE THIS WITH A CROWD! This is the kind of movie that definitely works best that way. Tons of funny moments & great action scenes(and initially I was afraid they were gonna gun-fu and wire-fu this up too much so that I couldn't enjoy it since I usually hate that kind of action). AHHHH, ok seriously...I need to sleep.

that the studio was expecting this to do 30-40mil this weekend

This movie was great. It's the best movie of the year so far, and I think it'll be the best comic book movie of the year. As to the performance at the box office, I think it's going to be alot like Batman Begins, the word of mouth is going to be its biggest ally. Next weekend it'll be number 1 for sure (hopefully it is this week) and eventually make some pretty big numbers.

I thought this was a movie in the same veign as Superhero movie and those other spoof titles. I had no idea this was actually based on an ongoign Marvel series. Never heard of the book before

It makes Superhero Movie look like a TV pilot that got rejected.

But yea it is sorta similar, in that it is satirical/parody in some parts. But it's not that tacky, cheesy, really stupid parody like in those spoof films.

next weekend I see The Losers taking the BO
weekend after that Nightmare on Elm Street
then Iron Man 2

Who was predicting that? They must be nuts.

It's a cult film. It's got cult written all over it. And like Chase says, being released this time of year ain't gonna help.

If Watchmen can open to 55 million I don't see why Kick Ass couldn't at least hit 30 million.

I thought the

gattling gun rescue

was far more impressive in The Matrix. It just seemed tacky and forced in Kick Ass.

from what you described, it seems as if the trialers didnt do it justice at all. The commercials I saw on tv failed to distinguish it from the Superhero Movie class of films. I'll defiently rememebr this one for when it comes out on BR to check it out

its not bad but its not good either. Producers in Hollywood dont spend money to make that money back...they spend money to make more money....and THR reports the movie was a 50 mil production

Yea that is strange. Kick Ass is IMO better than Watchmen, which i like anyway.

I think maybe to a lot of older people at first glance think Kick Ass looks a bit sillier, y'know what i mean? It's more garishly coloured, it's over the top and seems more comedy based in the spots and trailers. But the film is more than that obviously.

And maybe there is a few who don't like the controversial stuff.

It wasn't marketed very well. A lot of people thought Kick-Ass was a comedy version of Watchmen... Better marketing and we might have actually had a hit, because the reviews are pretty darn good.

GhostBusters was a huge blockbuster and Anchorman was a hit.

Lack of boxoffice doesn't equal crap or quality.

The second part of my post has nothing to do with box-office, in the first part I explained that the lack of big opening weekend numbers is because of a terrible marketing campaign.

Ghostbusters and Anchorman are, along with Big Lebowski, movies that pretty much everyone loves, as I said Kick-ass will be seen as, in 5 years or so, once everyone has had a chance to see it.

Solid flick. Hit Girl was obviously the scene stealer, but I give credit to both her and Nic Cage for having such great chemistry. I felt more invested in their story than Kick-Ass'. When she was saying goodbye to him, I actually got a little more emotional.

I don't know if this movie is going to do well. Saturday afternoon show was nearly empty.

Minor plot hole...wouldn't Kick-ass have caught on fire when he turned on the jetpack since he was covered in kerosene?

Dude know what a minority is? Judging from your sig, take a look in da mirror! I usually crush roaches... vola!

I think it comes down to trailers.

300 and Watchmen had the best trailers. I think a slow motion Zack Snyder trailer would've done wonders for Kick Ass. But we''ll never know for sure. All we know for sure is that it deserves far greater success.

yes a minority is a small number of people...like the small amount going to see this film judging by the mediocre BO. No need for me to look in the mirror. I am not here trying to pass my views on Millar and this movie as fact. I am merely commenting on the BO of this movie... it is going to make its money back and that is not what Hollywood producers look for in a film..expecially since they had high hopes for this flick...turn your fanboi-ism off and look at the facts...this movie proved the studios that Vaughn tried to sell this movie to were right

Hell, they call movies bombs that only make their budgets back all the time. ****, WE as fanboys call those movies bombs.

this movie proved the studios that Vaughn tried to sell this movie to were right

They said it would never work as a movie... ITS A GODDAMN AMAZING MOVIE

What this proves, yet again, is Lionsgate cant market anything, with WB this would have been a slam-dunk (give it the 300 treatment, 50 mill opening weekend minimum plus the WOM)

now its relying entirely on WOM.

If this movie was starring an A-lister, it would have done better. Honestly, that's what it would have boiled down to. R-rated flicks are a crapshoot.

The only true movie star left is Will Smith, short of that people aren't paying to see specific people. Marketing fail, not casting or rating based.

This has been proved time and time again, with The Hangover and 300 most recently.

I would say Johnny Depp too
