First Avenger Directed by Joe Johnston

i am sure she will probably score some other big films in the coming years. IT would be sweet to see her nab a marvel film. Maybe avengers, or some other character.

I am not worried at all about Joe Johnson. I had many (some would say justifiable) fears about Jon Favreau and look how that turned out.

I feel fairly safe in the knowledge that Marvel is running the show and they know whats best :yay:

Considering she turned down Spidey, it sounds to me like Marvel would have to nab her.

well if marvel doesnt maybe WB for a dc film. Or she can do more films in what ever genre she wants to do. i dont really know her work. she might not even be interested in getting into cbm.

she does 1 movie about a bomb expert and now she can do cap LOL

She can do "real" action well. She would have no problem handling Cap fighting in WWII, I bet.

Also unike Kevin Smith, most directors are versatile. Bryan Singer did some little noir film called The Usual Suspects and then moved on to a big super-hero action picture called X-Men. It was a bigger jump than Bigolow would have to do going from Hurt Locker to a WWII war movie. Also she did other stuff before Hurt Locker.

As much as Near Dark and Point Break were excellent; Strange Days wasnt exactly what I would call a good film - people tend to forget that one hers.

Strange Days was fantastic. Great script by James Cameron, also.

She has a decent body of work... and an oscar :D

Most directors have a stinker under their belt. Her general body of work is certainly noteworthy.

Id rather her do a modern espionage SHIELD movie

Bigelow is overrated.

She's done a few good films but a lot of bombs as well.

i'm glad they found a quality film director and not some shmuck who just wants fame/recognition/money. his films aren't all that great but they are very SOLID. i haven't seen Wolfman but i think Hidalgo is very underrated. i hope he'll go all out and hit Caps out of the park.

Agreed. Hidalgo doesn't get much love around here. It's pretty great actually. Rocketeer and October Sky instill confidence for me.

He did well with Hidalgo - the problems with that movie were totally with the script, imo. I think that's actually a case of him elevating a movie above the script.

I love October SKy and Rocketeer too, but Johnston is a type of a director who's just very 'all over the map'. So I'm always cautious with the guy, instead of standing by him with confidence. I don't want him to fail.

I think that Joe Johnston is a good director, I have seen recently Wolfman and I have really liked this movie, he have done imo a good job despite the big problem behind the production.

I think he will do a good job also because Marvel is behind him in the production, in comparaison, I think that Johnston is a better director that Letterier, before the incredible Hulk, Letterier don't have done great movie, just some action movies (Transporter, Danny the Dog) who was imo not very well done (and I'm a big fan of Jet Li), but he have done a fantastic job with Hulk, so with the Marvel production, I think Johnston will do a very good movie.

i totally agree. *****ing and whining won't help. let's all just have faith in marvel :)

yea i am sure joe is going to do well with this film. plus we got to remember it is just not joe calling all the shots. it is kevin feige and the others at marvel studios that will help shape the film too.

I agree with you Webhead, Kevin and others helping Joe make this film, I doubt it would turn into a big ***** fest. I have been a little worried regarding the director because he seems to have trouble making a solid movie but after reviewing his resume I think he can pull this off. I have faith.

yea hype, but to we know how things are going. its all speculation and some are worried and others not so much.

Successes and quality are two things.

But It's just that judging from the real World quality of Hurt Locker, I think I would prefered that in a Cap movie than the campy adventure flair of what Johnston brings to the table(judging from his work in Rocketeer/Hidalgo/Jurassic Park 3).

But I know Marvel Studios will do something pretty light so that's why they went for someone like Johnston.

I think Johnston knows he's had a bad track record for his last couple pictures. Wolfman had a lot going for it cast-wise, and it underperformed at the B.O. and was critically panned.

Point is, the guy DOES have talent in him, and now he has something to prove. That he can still direct a good movie. So after Wolfman, once again he's got a big-budget studio film, and it's looking a lot like his last chance to prove himself. He'll step up.
