The Last Defenders

I like the team so far, especially if Casey is aware of what's going on in the respective characters' other titles. She-Hulk's apparently given up superheroing, Colossus may not even be on the X-Men because there may not be an X-Men at all after MC, and Blazing Skull... well, he's just kicking around somewhere at the moment. Maybe the Defenders are the team that reinvigorates these somewhat lost heroes--ironic, given that the Defenders have generally been kind of the dregs of the superteams, with "team" being only loosely applicable.

I'm still hoping beyond hope for Valkyrie to be on the team. Asgardian connections get me at least twice as excited as I normally would be for anything. But the solicit makes it sound like Casey may be going his own way on character selection, with Nighthawk being the only old-school Defender on the roster.

Eh, either way, I trust Casey a lot, so I'll definitely check it out.

I'm with you Corp, bring back Val...I love her character and miss seeing her around.

I wonder how she'd return. Would her spirit have gone back to that woman she shared bodies with before? Would she be her own separate entity as Brunnhilde again? Would JMS possibly return to that love triangle between Thor, Sif, and Brunnhilde? So many good stories can come of Valkyrie's return.

"Team" is only applicable in a technicality sort of way. Forced fighting is more like it. x.x

That doesn't wash, as Colossus took part in some of those himself in the old days. He killed Proteus and Riptide when he had to, after all. He boinked Nareel in the Savage Land and was later oblivous to the fact that she had his child.

But, we'll have to wait and see, I guess.

What does sex have to do with violence? Oh, wait. You just revealed something about yourself there, didn't you?

And Colossus killing in the past, doesn't have much to do with the wussy Colossus of today. He's like a flower out there anymore. It would be perfectly in character if he up and left. I mean, it's not like he fits in with the X-Men these days. He's left before because of disagreements over ideals. What's one more time?

That's true, he has split on the team before over differences in ideals. Hell, he joined Magneto for awhile over that, remember?

Those were pretty extreme circumstances he left under the first time. His sister just died, after all. That shattered his whole world.

Anyway, Uncanny X-Men has a Colossus-centric arc after MC. Between that and Last Defenders, I suspect we'll see Colossus step it up and be interesting again. Now, if someone could just get to work on those pants...

That's what I'm saying. I don't know why Dread is having such a hard time accepting that the ideals of Colossus and the rest of the X-Men are often at odds with one another.

Maybe, Colossus feels like his powers are being wasted for just a mutant cause. He left Russia in the first place to "help the entire world." Maybe he feels that he can do more good working for the CSA.

AND by working for the CSA, ease the mutant/human hate. Similar tactics to the Thunderbolts.

Oh. I wonder which state they're in. Nevada pops into my head for some reason. The Defenders seem like a Nevada team.

The only crime in Las Vegas is organized crime. And the city needs it to survive. Having someone come in and clean it up would destroy the city.

I figured the Defenders would've been their "heavy lifting" team over the Avengers. The "tank" team, if you will.

And when did She Hulk become anti-reg? o.o

I know she hit Stark, and lost her powers until she agreed to follow the rules again, but that makes her Anti-Reg?

Giffen co-plotted the first two issues and did the breakdowns for Muniz. I need this book in my hands NOW.

She didn't lose her powers until she agreed to follow the rules again, she lost her powers until they were restored through some wonky goings-on with her Alpha counterpart. She's been pretty much neutral since her disagreement with Tony, as far as I know. She worked alongside him to try and stop Bruce, but now she's off bounty-hunting rather than superheroing, which keeps her out of the line of fire of the pro-reg authorities, I guess.

Also, I think there was a big conflict between Jen Walters' having to support the SHRA because it's a law and she's a lawyer and She-Hulk's being against the SHRA because of how it impacted her personally. She went along with it, but she never really agreed with it.
