The Last Defenders

Yeah, that story is defiantly one of the reasons Joe Casey is so freakin' awesome.

I vaguely recall that INCREDIBLE HULK story with the snake. Wasn't he only pretending to pass out?

Anyway, since we sometimes have Marvel artists floating about, if whoever is drawing LAST DEFENDERS is surfing this topic, remember: Colossus + pants =

Great interview, Joe Casey has convinced me to give it a try.

That's good. I liked the interview as well, although he didn't address any of my concerns over Colossus at all. Of course, Messiah Complex is likely the reason. Since I'm not reading it, hopefully LAST DEFENDERS #1 will at least recap things from Piotr's perspective.

I wonder if it will be one of those books where it takes 6 issues for the team to assemble, or only 1-2?

At least Colossus speedo without pants makes a hell of a lot more sense than half the superhero community's speedo with pants look.

And on the off chance that Muniz is out there, and hasn't completed his work on the series: Put Colossus back in his red and white Russian uniform. That one kicked ass.

Yeah, but a speedo without pants and knee high boots just looks FLAMING on a man, especially a buff man.

I doubt the Russian uniform is making a come-back. The cover seems to imply some version of his red/yellow costume.

I mean I've had to sit through decades of Colossus smashing stuff while showing his man-gams about, I'm just saying pants would tweak his costume into further greatness.

Like I said, it's a lot better than Cap's panties.

Cap doesn't have panties anymore. Someone somewhere along the line realized that they were stupid. What do Colossus' artists have to say for themselves? :o

Probably the same thing Batman and Superman's artists have to say for themselves. :o

Yeah, I could stand to see Batman and Superman lose their shorts, too.

You know what I mean, perv. :o

Hey if Robin finally got a clue years ago...

...then Batman, Superman and the overwhelming majority of superheroes should have gotten a clue, too, right? Yeah, that doesn't address singling Colossus out at all.

 Batman, Supes, etc. aren't wearing swimtrunks.

Even Metamorpho wised up finally.

Colossus happens to be the one on the cover of the comic this thread pertains to? Plus, he's got panties on over nothing but bare skin. At least those other dudes wear pants under their panties. Colossus is one nutshot away from his metallic junk flying free.

That's exactly what makes Colossus' costume less ridiculous then Superman's or Batman's because he's not wearing underpants over his pants. My guess that this was originally done was to show more of his metal skin with the purpose of looking more powerful or imposing.

Maybe, for reasons that we would all feel bad for him, he doesn't have to really worry about his junk getting past his trousers, even if they were loose in there. :(

In which case, Shadowcat is easy to please.

Yeah, that probably is the reason. But the fact remains that most American guys wouldn't wear speedos to the beach, let alone to kick supervillain ass. They just come off as... weird and kind of gross.

And wearing speedos over your pants isn't weird and/or kind of gross?

Technically, during some of the early comics, Colossus actually wore some blue tights over his thighs that would vanish when he transformed, although that could have simply been a colorist's way to hide his man-gams during the 70's. That looked stupid too because blue wasn't and still isn't part of his costume scheme.

NO MAN looks more imposing showing his thighs while wearing knee high boots. At least no one outside of THE VILLAGE PEOPLE.

Other superheroes like Batman, Superman, etc. have outdated costumes because they are too iconic to change for very long. Batman got the all-black look after the first two movies but that switched back around 1998-1999 or so. And Superman faces *****ing if he dares to tweak his S-shield a little; imagine if he decided to find a way to undo the underoos.

Colossus doesn't face that sort of iconic status to his costume. It has been tweaked and altered many times. The perennial theme seems to be to not wear pants, which is odd because it also doesn't match his character at all, really. He isn't flamboyant or anything. He doesn't strut his bod around to score with ladies too often. He's usually more modest. The only way it makes sense is if you compare Colossus' costume to that of wrestlers', but he isn't a wrestler type, either.

In comics, if you are a man who doesn't wear pants, you're either living underwater or a sidekick. Or one of those cosmic types with clashing colors who can say something omnipotent like, "My colors clashed before there WAS color!" and you can't argue it. Colossus isn't a sea dweller, a sidekick, or a cosmic, damn it. Underoos over tights or whatever, pants are pants.

It just seems that because Cockrum designed the original look, no one wants to majorly F with it to give him pants on a regular basis.

I even made a sprite comic (using sprites from Scrollboss.com/PrimeOp's website) regarding the topic months ago.

So, hopefully now that Colossus is randomly deciding to branch out, slap on some pants, and, um, hopefully Casey can figure out some way to make proper use of him when She-Hulk is on the team and she can do everything he can do better anyway.

INCLUDING not having to wear pants. :p
