Homecoming The Marc Webb Thread

Exactly. Neither of his TASM movies have been met with high level of acclaim and popularity Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were. WB would have been insane not to wait for him to finish Inception. People would have been pissed if they went ahead without Nolan.

It would have been X3 without Bryan Singer all over again.

If they were gonna change director they wouldn't need or have to wait 4 years to do that so its certainly not the reason it's being delayed, as to whether Webb is involved still we will have to see, will sony want him back? They certainly believe in him as they got him to sign for 3 films and delaying a movie 4 years is certainly not confirmation they want a new director at all, will webb wait? it depends if the passion is there to be involved and Webb already said he would want to be involved in someway even when he wasn't directing TASM4 so Its very possible he wants to finish his trilogy

I'm not saying it is a guarantee Webb won't do it, but it is definitely far more of a possibility now than it was yesterday when he seemed like a lock to do it.

What you mean because instead of doing the sinister 6 whose being directed by someone else before instead of after that means webbs out? Seriously? Seems abit grasping at straws to me

I am pretty certain he is still onboard and the change of plan is just to give spidey a breather

Don't really care what you think tbh.

Just wait, you'll see. It's for the better IMO. His replacement more suited for this genre.

I definitely won't be the one saying that Webb is out because I predicted he'd be out after the 1st film but a 4 year wait definitely makes it a real possibility this time.

The writers are gone ..... and now suddenly it gets pushed back a significant amount of time. The writing's on the wall here.

I sure hope so. Don't get me wrong. He is utterly brilliant as a Spidey proffessor. And the failings fall more on me. I am admittedly to lazy to sift through years of pre-vis and a lifetime to find the mythical rough cut to decipher his brilliance. I much prefer good directing to make itself known immediately. I am such a spoiled brat aren't I?

Hmm...yes it probably is.

I quite liked the implied subtext of this post.

Is the director a newbie or has he worked on CBM's before? If he has, were they successful?

I highly doubt it. I mean there were other stuffs that were important in both movies that Webb really needed to put into abd yet Sony meddled with them. I think we need some more proof involving Webb

So who wanted parents storyline covered over all 3 movies instead of just the 1st? Who dropped MJ as a character totally from TASM2, this was all Webb. And I am guessing a good few other decisions were as well.

Let's not forget the press release. If they are set on continuing with the previous plan, why are there no names attached to the film. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

CULVER CITY, Calif., July 23, 2014 – Columbia Pictures today announced its updated release strategy for the nearly $4 billion Spider-Man franchise. The next film in the series will be Sinister Six, writer-director Drew Goddard’s highly anticipated villain team-up, which is the first of several planned character and story expansions. The film, which will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, will hit theaters on November 11, 2016.
The studio also announced that it has slated Unchartedfor June 10, 2016, a prime summer release date for the highly anticipated film. The movie is an action-adventure based upon the critically- acclaimed and top-selling PlayStation® video game series, which follows the adventures of treasure hunter Nathan Drake. Seth Gordon will direct the film. The latest draft of the screenplay is being written by David Guggenheim, and the film will be an Arad/Atlas Entertainment Production, produced by Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner and Ari Arad.
Columbia Pictures will then release the next installment, The Amazing Spider-Man 3, in 2018.

Dude, before the release of the first movie I knew the parents' secrets weren't gonna be revealed but hinted. It happens to all movies and shows. The parents subplot were dropped by Sony and since alot of people didn't like Woodley as MJ Sony dropped that too.

Sorry, no way Sony made those decisions, I just cant see it, it was all Webb IMO.

I do yeah, but Raimi never cut story points half way through the production of his movies.
Most of his stuff like the doctor, the wind chimes, Harry and MJ, Gwen and sandman's daughter, eddie's alternate death scene, Gwen and flint's daughter, etc. we're messed with just like what happened in both of webb's films

Why would Sony order Raimi to delete the wind chimes scene? Has it occurred to you that the director himself has a say in how a movie flows?

Yes but it's clear raimi never wanted stuff to go wrong with 3. Heck, 4 was being messed around with before raimi and the others quit.

Yeah but with the 1st 2 movies Raimi wasnt forced to do anything like this, it was only Spiderman 3. Raimi had a say in this stuff as well.

You are correct, there is literally no information besides 2018, they didn't even specify when in 2018 the film was going to be released. It's all pretty damn vague.

Please let the writers be great. I want either Goddard or the skyfall writers to handle spiderman

Well, I think Webb won't direct ASM3. Does he really want to go through this again? After ASM1, he seemed pretty bitter about the whole experience, and wasn't even sure if he was going to direct ASM2. I just can't see him staying to direct the third one after this delay, for many reasons. Sony probably will want to bring in a new guy anyway...

That's what my thoughts are. Hopefully and probably they'll use Drew Goddard.

If Webb doesn't return (and I think he will) I wouldn't use Goddard for ASM3 even if S6 is great. I think directors need time away from projects as they get to close to the subject matter. Nolan directed other movies between his Batman movies and it helped him come back to the Batman project fresh and rearing to go.
