Homecoming The Marc Webb Thread

I just think Webb is out of his element in this genre, period. The films display no feel for the characters or the material in general. He should go back to rom-coms, or anything else he wants to direct but stay away from CB films. Studio interference was obviously an issue, but so was Webb's rudderless uninspired vision. TASM 2 is just an AWFUL, hackneyed mess all around.
I couldn't disagree more. I guess it's just a matter of opinion because I think he had a GREAT feel for the characters and universe in general.

I'd be more worried handing the reigns off to someone else, Webb had already proven himself twice in my eyes.

I don't find Webb to be the problem either. It's hard to make a good movie when you're forced to have so many different plots elements in this movie as setup for spinoffs, in addition to having scenes and characters that were more important to the current sequel at hand sacrificed.

What he's proven is how much of an advantage it is to have a writer/director with a vision as opposed to someone like Webb who only wears one hat.

What else has Webb proven...? That he can neuter a great and sympathetic character like Connors with a truncated character arc? How about that big dramatic parents subplot which added nothing, ziltch, ZERO interest to this series or to the mythology of the character other then to devalue the importance of Uncle Ben. He made Electro into one of the most ridiculously forgettable villians in recent memory as he and Foxx dreamed up a bad SNL caricature that Schumacher would be proud of. How about the overall lack of cohesion to these films?

Glad you like what these guys are producing, but clearly the vision isn't setting the world on fire. The reason is obvious from my perspective.

I don't have a hate for Webb in particular, he definitely has talent. I just think he's ill suited for the material. He may not completely be the problem, but the one thing I'm convinced of is he is not the solution.

It's hard for say that he's a problem when I feel like in the hands of a lesser director, these movies could be much worse. He's handled the chararacter well, and with respect when he's not forced to have them make decisions for the sake of bringing them somewhere inorganically, like Harry's villain turn or Electro's villain turn.

I can definitely agree with this. But man, there are so many problems and bad scenes in these films (in particular TASM 2) that it's pretty hard not to pass the blame all around.

You really can't know that for sure.

There were scenes about uncle ben and a flashback of him including a moment where his words stop Peter from killing Harry, Harry destroying oscorp, extended alternate take on the power plant fight where peter figures out a way to beat electro without resulting in killing him, some extended scenes with Peter and Harry, and sine few others

I guess this is why I said that it all comes down to opinions. :funny:

I can agree a little on Lizard being neutered in that they shouldn't have cut out scenes with his family, etc. He could have been a lot better but for what we actually got, I enjoyed his character's story quite a bit in the film. As for the parents, I really am in the minority on this one, but they did add quite a bit of interest in the films for me, at least. I liked that they went a bit of a different direction and I wish Sony had interfered less with Webb's vision of their storyline. About Electro, I didn't mind him at all. It was nice to see a more campy villain, while at the same time one that felt dangerous. I'll give you that one though, his motives could have been explained a lot better, it just seemed sort of brushed over. But I'd blame that with the script a bit more than I'd blame the direction.

I understand where you're coming from though, I just don't agree. :)

Also you do realize alot of the things weren't on him right? Sony has messed with him and if raimi was still making spiderman 4 you'd be negative towards him as well

Webb did the best Spider-Man movie so I want him to continue like planned.

I agree. I guess I'm overprotecting Webb because I do like him as a director and I loved the work he did with his music videos and movies before ASM. I can't help but think he'd be better off doing something other than wasting his time being micromanaged doing ASM movies.

Marc Webb recently tweeted about a Showtime pilot he's directing. Still nothing about the franchise since before the TASM3 postponement announcement.

I don't think we will hear from Webb about anything Spider-Man related in a long time since TASM3 is supposed to release in 2018.

I agree its still like 2 years before they even start to film the movie. I don't think we will hear much about asm3 in till after or around the time sinister six comes out.
