My position is that if hair color matters, then it matters whether it's believable as her natural hair color. And I would put Hailee Steinfeld in the same boat.

Odeya Rush looks like someone who would be a character if there were a Spider-Man TV show where she'd appear in one episode where Peter decides to date a foreign exchange student. But then she has to go back home at the end but promises she will always remember him, and Peter now feels a bit more confident to approach girls at his school.

And it's not just the eye colour that makes her look foreign. Even with blue eyes, the rest of her looks kind of eastern european.

She did actually, and I didn't buy her as Jack Black's daughter either. (which wasn't a big deal to me)

I was mostly teasing about the exotic thing.

It may be nitpicky, but I'm just not sure Odeya looks upbeat and friendly enough to play MJ--and yes I've see videos of her. Hasn't really changed that impression. I'd prefer someone who seems a bit more warm, approachable, happy, etc. Someone else made a comparison to Poison Ivy, and I thought that was spot on.

And just to be clear, I wouldn't HATE it if Odeya got the role. I think she's very pretty and a decent actress. She's just not really who I would want for the role.

I'm still rooting for Liana Liberato (seriously, I think she's PERFECT for MJ), Madison Davenport and now Kaitlyn Dever.

But ultimately whoever has the best chemistry with Tom will get the role, and I think we'll know who our new MJ is by January or February of next year. t:

Odeya MJ would just seem like a summer romance for Peter. Maybe she's new to the school and doesn't quite fit in with the established cliques, and because she isn't all American, the other girls don't quite know how to treat her or some exclude her. And some of the guys like Flash try to hit on her, but she finds him uncouth.

Then there's shy Peter, who is friendly to her in science class and helps her with a few experiments. He's just doing it without any guile expectation of something in return because he's so used to being rejected, and this is why she takes to him because he doesn't seem to have an agenda to get into her pants.

But she's only staying here a few months. And at the end of the school year they go out on a few dates properly. However, she has to leave to go back to her country, but promises to email and Skype. Peter is sad that it's only a temporary summer fling, but feels empowered and more confident to date girls in his own class like Gwen.

I really have no idea what some of you guys are talking about. I thought Rush was American while watching Goosebumps, and didn't find out she was from Israel until I read about it. She's played an American in several movies now, and I've heard no one complaining. Plus she pretty much is American since she has lived here most of her life.

It hasn't been confirmed that MJ will be Peter's next girlfriend. However, Kevin Feige mentioned MJ in an email about casting, and the director, Jon Watts, talked about Ultimate and Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane as sources of inspiration, so it's likely that MJ will have a role in the next film.

MJ actor requirements. Must be as tall as or shorter than Tom. Must be within his age range. Must have long scarlet red hair. Must be natural beauty. Not 99% make up beauty.

Well the actress doesn't need to have red hair herself, but should look good with red hair. If she's got brown hair as a base, that would be a good start, and hopefully she's not too pale either. She needs a friendly face and bubbly personality.

No problem.

If Ultimate and SMLMJ are anything to go by, MJ might be the female lead, but Peter could also have other love interests/romantic relationships (they never actually got together in SMLMJ). Peter's romantic relationship with Betty would be difficult to adapt if the goal is a modern highschool story, but I suppose they could do something with Liz. I expect both to appear either way.

I'm just glad that they seem interested in using MJ. A character that iconic and important to Spider-Man deserves a better portrayal imo.

I don't know about you, but I suspected she wasn't American in The Giver. (The first movie I saw her in) And if even someone didn't think she was American, why would anyone waste their time complaining about it? I certainly didn't care enough to complain. Only when it comes to Mary Jane (A character that I care about) I care enough to complain, because I don't think MJ should look foreign.
