McCain Stands Up for Joe

By Matthew Mosk
MIAMI -- Sen. John McCain made Joe the Plumber a household name. Now he wants Joe to know he's got his new friend's back.

Speaking to a boisterous crowd at Florida International University, McCain expressed dismay that the fame he brought on Joe Wurzelbacher has now turned the Ohio man into the focus of endless publicity, not all of it favorable.

For this, McCain blames his opponent, Barack Obama.

"The response from Senator Obama and his campaign yesterday was to attack Joe," McCain said. "People are digging through his personal life and he has TV crews camped out in front of his house. He didn't ask for Senator Obama to come to his house. He wasn't recruited or prompted by our campaign. He just asked a question. And Americans ought to be able to ask Senator Obama tough questions without being smeared and targeted with political attacks."

Press reports focused on Wurzelbacher's story for the past 48 hours have included mention of his lack of a plumbing license, and a tax lien.

The questions coming from the Obama campaign have been more mild. The McCain campaign has pointed to comments by another Joe, Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden. Biden said in an interview, "I don't have any Joe the Plumbers in my neighborhood who make $250,000 a year and are worried," Biden said.

McCain told the crowd in Miami that the question Joe asked about our economy "is important, because Senator Obama's plan would raise taxes on small businesses that employ 16 million Americans. Senator Obama's plan will kill those jobs at just the time when we need to be creating more jobs. My plan will create jobs, and that's what America needs."

McCain also offered some red meat to the Miami crowd, saying, "When I'm president, I won't meet unconditionally with the Castro brothers."

"The day is coming when Cuba will be free," he said, to a roar.

*sigh* Ummm...McCain....YOU are the one who brought up Joe The Plumber in the debate over and over again, essentially pressing him into the spotlight and making him famous to the point that the press started vetting him like he was a damn candidate (he didn't help himself by holding press conferences and doing countless interviews, either.

Is it just me or does McCain look for every opportunity to NOT talk about the issues? It's always about some distractionary thing with him. Cries of "sexist". Ayers. Joe The Plumber. No one cares about this crap, John. Talk about how you're going to fix things if we elect you!

McCain office in Florida has a sign on the wall comparing Obama to Hitler and Stalin, among others.

I wonder if McCain is "proud" of the moron who put that in the office in the same way that he's "proud" of the racist, xenophobic morons showing up to his rallies.

i wonder if they realize that they're belittling America's youth by comparing them to the youth of Nazi Germany.

It also kinda says, "F**k you young people. We're going to f**k up the world and you don't get a say. Deal with it."

McCain is a rollercoaster, sheesh. Ppl are ticked about his rallies, he defends Obama and ppl start to ease off McCain, next day he defends the ppl shouting that stuff at his rallies.

McCain mentiones Joe the Plumber and ppl get an ad nauseum feel from how much he talked about it, he makes a joke at the Alfred memorial dinner about Joe and gets ppl to laugh at him mocking himself for bringing Joe up so many times, next day he blames Obama for McCain himself making Joe an issue.

I guess at the least McCain gets ppl to talk about him, which means something to someone I guess. I mean it's like he calls you an idiot, then walks over to hug you and apologize, the second your arms are about around him for a hug he steps back and socks you in the eye....lol.

Some dumbass Congresswoman on Hardball tried to associate "liberal" with "anti-American." Matthews nailed her on it. He said, "You know, ma'am, roughly 35% of the country is liberal. Are you saying they're all anti-American?" He said that the robo-calls by McCain's campaign and the Congresswoman's interchanging of "leftist/liberal" and "anti-American" reminds him of the 1950's when people were going around accusing others of being communists.

Isn't it the media, and not Obama's campaign, who was "targeting" Joe, who made himself a target in the first place?

Yes. And McCain is claiming Obama went to Joe's house. That is NOT the truth. Joe himself admitted that Obama was in the neighborhood and a huge group of people gathered around Obama asking him questions in SOMEONE ELSE'S YARD, and that Joe felt like asking a question.

Lol, does it matter? This is the McCain campaign we're talking about. The ppl who defended, spoke out against, and then defended the ppl at their rallies, then blamed Obama. Or for another example, the man who said he hates pork barrel ear mark projects, then suspended his campaign to support a pork barrel ear mark bill, then when it failed he blamed Obama, then when it passed he didn't mention it again.

When things go south, blame Obama! Doesn't matter if it's the media presenting it, or if it's a problem he never was even involved with, it makes him look bad. This morning I got soap in my eye while taking a shower, think I blamed myself for being careless? Hell no, I bought an anti-Obama bumper sticker and a loud speaker and let him have it for 20 mins up and down my street.

It is literally McCarthyism at its finest. They are playing on the fears of socialism (they are depicting it as an idea system that is different then what we have now, and just painting it up as something bad because it is different) and the ignorant people's fear of change.

Well, it backfired at least. As of now her opponent has raised $65,000 in about five hours. One less crazy person in congress now it appears.

REPORT: MCCAIN 'ROBOCALLS' ARE FROM THE SAME COMPANY THAT SMEARED HIM IN 2000

(You all remember John McCain 2000, right? In 2000, he called these calls 'HATE CALLS'. I guess he feels differently not being on the receiving end. Hypocrit. :cmad:)

We need a new term for this. Something along the lines of, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely", but more like "Almost having absolute power almost corrupts absolutely" or something. McCain was badly smeared by Bush, then in 2004 he campaigned for Bush, and in 2008 he campaigned like Bush.

Unrelated side note, I also like the phrase, "To overspecialize is to breed in weakness"....and for a bonus....racecar is spelled the same backwards as it is forwards. Tossed those nuggest of wisdom in for free.

Fading I have never really looked at your avvy but is that Gurren Lagen?...

Yup, Kamina :). I watched the Japan subtitled version and loved it heh, that catch phrase was goofy and addictive enough I put it in my sig heh. Haven't felt like changing it in awhile.

YES! you are one of my favorite posters now. I have a Gurren Laggen Revotech with him pointing to the sky, pretty epic if I must say so. Kamina is the best character though, hands down. (Especially when he merges Gurren Laggen for the first time hoping it would work haha)

It's actually around $15,000-20,000 higher. Money is also being raised directly through his website but there is not a counter for it. His campaign manager said at one point that they had $60,000 and at the time the counter at ActBlue was at $45,000. That counter is now at $69,000, so the total is roughly $84,000-89,000.
