The Naked Fun in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

Litigating Commonwealth copyright law in the US is... a choice.

You know I get mad as hell for the Superman creators when I googled how much they sold the rights for.

They literally gave up the world’s greatest superhero for peanuts.

I get less sympathetic with estates trying to milk it. And this whole lawsuit reeks of getting a quick payoff. Cannot wait for the Tolkien Estate to become irrelevant.

I guess that explains why they were never in a rush to make Man of Steel 2.

Nah, WB understandably thought the the copyrights were settled. The key dates for this suit were 2017 and 2021. Since this is the Schuster estate, 2017 is the important date. So this suit could have been brought anytime since then, whenever WB had a Superman product being sold in those territories. This reeks of getting a quick payoff to avoid bad press during the release of this movie.

We later learn this was a stunt fabricated by Disney to trick the Fox News crowd to watch it. :o
Honestly, I could see this being a tactic from Disney. Of course in a year after all these families being ripped apart and eggs cost more then a Tesla, rainbow capitalism will be back, but until then here we go.

In shocking news, it's super woke. I feel lied to.
Let's be real though, the people who make these types of comments are not the brightest bulbs in the box. My dad is as hardcore Republican as they come, and he didn't understand Avatar was a pro-environment movie that was anti-corporation

Pretty much most Sci-Fi movies. But no one heeded their warnings.

I think BOTH Bucky and Sam make for poor replacement Caps, personally. Idk, maybe it’s just my general bias against legacy characters outside of a few rare exceptions, but Steve Rogers was Cap because his story was epic and unique. The MCU even hammered home the notion that people had tried for 60 years to recreate the magic formula that created him and couldn’t do it because Steve himself was the magic ingredient.

And then all of a sudden it’s like, “actually, either of his best friends could do it. They’ve got skills!” Nah.

But then as mentioned, I’m just not a fan of superhero identities being mantles to be passed down, unless you’re a Lantern and it’s literally a job or something. But especially not for someone like Steve for whom the point of the story was “WHO YOU ARE is what makes you irreplicable.”

Bucky is Winter Soldier. Sam is Falcon. They can be their own leads with those identities imo.
Steve is more of a symbol than the title. He’s the idealistic embodiment of the American dream, the issue is both Sam and Bucky aren’t. They aspire to be but aren’t fundamentally, which plays into their narrative. Even in the comics both men were given the opportunity to wield the shield and title and they realized it bore an enormous responsibility. Steve Rogers isn’t Captain America because of his powers, it much more than that. He leads with an authoritarian mindset that bear humility and compassion for his fellow citizen. He commands respect and loyalty by bearing himself openly.

Wally, Kyle, and Kate. Having issue of thinking of anyone else. Even the Thor replacements that actually worked weren't legacy characters. Miles and Gwen being completely separate Spider-Man also works very well.

Danny Ketch, Robbie Reyes, Flash Thompson.

Would 2099 versions be considered legacy characters?

I would say yes cause they bear the name. Except Doom 2099 since that's actually Victor Von Doom

Yeah but the Fox News crowd is too busy boycotting Captain America 4 because of Mackie's comments to notice. :o

Yeah that’s not shocking.

Yeah, can't be all that surprised. Probably not even going to bother watching season 2 at this point.

This is an interesting choice.

I'm glad we're getting it sooner but I don't understand why they wouldn't just wait the extra five days for the Super Bowl.
