The New Ghostbusters - Part 10

I just don't think there is much you can do with the concept and nothing I've seen from anything related to the franchise has convinced me otherwise. It is closer to Jaws in that way than something like Star Trek, where there is this huge, rich universe where you can follow other characters and tell different stories about.

Even something like Back to the Future has a lot more to offer with deeper characters and the ability to go to different time periods and tell different stories.

Ghostbusters stories are very repetitive.

THE REAL CHOSTBUSTERS and EXTREME GHOSBUSTERS prove that you can do a lot with the concept.

Yeh, there's loads of things you could do with the Ghostbusters idea. The guys have taken on ghosts, goblins, trolls, the jersey devil, vampires, werewolves, werechickens, gods, demi gods, genies, agents of hell... That's only what the took on. They've also had to deal with time travel, going into the containment unit, becoming ghosts themselves, alternate dimensions...

Once you open up the sci fi/supernatural toy box, there's loads of things you can do with the idea. Kahran Ramsus clearly hasn't seen the cartoons or read the comics.

If anything the idea that BTTF has more stories to tell is inverse. The BTTF story has always been about Doc and Marty. No matter what you try to do, you need to have a good reason why Doc and Marty are mixed up in it all. A concept that the BTTF comic book is doing really well just now. But it's still far more limited than that of Ghostbusters.

I've seen the cartoons, but not read the comics (didn't even know there was any).

Can't believe Sony hasn't tried Ghostbusters/MIB crossover.

*Sony exec frantically begins writing.

They tried to crossover the wrong propery with 21JS.

hope all you pigs are happy

no sequel and the franchise goes into a coma
Is he calling other SHH users "pigs"?

I didn't put anything in a coma, Sony producers, director and cast did. They did grab a franchise with undeveloped potential and burned it to the ground. You can thank them.

If I would look for indirect responsibility, I would go for the "fans" that saw all the warning signs and cheered and supported this anyway, but I doubt that lack of support would have made any difference (Producers clearly weren't thinking when they made most of the decision to go ahead with)

The Foreign Box Office for this has been weak. Ghostbusters 2016 has made $71 million in 63 markets thus far. A quick comparison to Suicide Squad which is in 30 markets and has done $234+ million in a couple weeks.

Overseas people generally don't care for this movie.

Generally, no one cares for this movie. It's a flop.

Sony didn't think this through at all, make a big budgeted blockbuster Summer tentpole movie meant to kickstart a franchise/cinematic universe but make it niche with Feig/McCarthy comedy style that limits any international appeal. :loco:.

I'd rather a franchise I like stay in a dormant coma then get reheated garbage.

That includes Masters of the Universe, which I adore.

Not surprising. A lot of supporters were touting that Japan would be the saving throw of the movie internationally, making up for poor performance in other areas.

Not the case.

Good to know that bad movies can bring countries together.

I am wondering how long the NDAs on a project like this last -- From the Stantz1984 Reddit leaks there was a good amount of crap going on behind the scenes of this train-wreck. I would love to know exactly what the atmosphere was like with the cast and crew.

And yet a fair number of film critics were so eager to like or love the movie. Either due to too much adoration for Paul Feig or done to shut down the backlash. Or both.

I don't think it's a "bad" movie, but neither is it a "good" movie.
I saw it and don't regret seeing it, but I have no desire to see it again unless maybe on a slow night when it's on tv.
If you are going to re-make a beloved classic and throw that kind of money at it you have to do better than making a "meh" movie that just ends up being a filler between other summer blockbusters.

Agreed, it was never going to make it up especially with the way it was performing elsewhere and especially without China.

It is apparently a response to the twitter bans

Leslie Jones is the latest celebrity to fall victim to hackers, with the vandalization of her personal website on Wednesday morning.

The hacker(s) commandeered the “Ghostbusters” star’s Tumblr, posting personal photos from her iCloud account, which included several nude shots as well as pictures of her passport and driver license. Jones’ phone number and the password to her Twitter account were also displayed.

A Twitter exchange between Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and the WikiLeaks account led the top of the page in which Dorsey tweeted that users are only banned for targeted harassment. WikiLeaks responded with a link to one of Jones’ tweets in which she encouraged her followers to go after another harassing user.

Last month, the whistleblower site condemned action taken by Twitter on Jones’ behalf “cyber feudalism,” after the social media platform banned Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos for “inciting or engaging in the targeted abuse or harassment of others” after Jones posted examples of racist and misogynist abuse she had received on the platform, of which tweets by Yiannopoulous were included.

Jones’ site, which has already been taken offline, also featured YouTube video of the gorilla Harambe, who was killed in an Ohio zoo earlier this year. Jones was the victim of repeated racist harassment online leading up to the release of “Ghostbusters,” with some Twitter users comparing her to Harambe.

Its not enough to post her private info and nude photos, they have to do some racist **** as well with that Harambe ********?

****ing losers.

Racist sexist scumbags. They are nothing but bullies. Out of everyone involved in the movie they single out Leslie Jones for such unwarranted vitriol

I said this a few years ago when those Hollywood phone hacking happened and everyone was looking at those nudes, but didn't want to admit they were doing anything wrong just looking."I didn't hack the phone, I didn't do anything wrong!"

It's rewarding the kinds of people that do this stuff cause they have your attention for being gross and violating someone's privacy.

The thing that a lot of people don't understand is a lot of time the people that do this **** have no real concerns or passions about why these issues. They don't care about racism, or sexism, or equality, or misogyny, etc. etc etc.

All they care about is doing the most disciple things they can think of to any sacrificial target they can find and draw as MUCH attention to themselves as possible.

It's all for the LOLZ using whatever hot-letter media angle is popular at the time. Sadly the media at large don't understand this.
