The New Ghostbusters - Part 5

Because male-driven comedies are so classy.

Find me something like that joke in Hot Fuzz. Goes to show movies like Bridesmaids and Trainwreck go for gross out humor to be just like the boys, finding the lowest common denominator, when they should be crafting better comedy to separate themselves.

I don't like Bridesmaids, but the comparison to draw there isn't Hot Fuzz. It's stuff like The Hangover or This Is The End or The Internship. Same general realm of comedy, and all awful. Let's not act like Hot Fuzz is the standard.

Just drawing on one of my favorite comedies. Basically I'm asking where/what is the equivalent?

There's a smaller pool to choose from when it comes to women-driven comedies. And every time one is made people act like it's reverse sexism or some nonsense.

Spy and Trainwreck were the funniest films of the year imo. Still need to see What We Do In The Shadows though which I heard is great.

Also Mean Girls and Tina Fey's writing in 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt don't depend on profanity and/or toilet humor and are often as witty and hilarious as Edgar Wright's stuff, imo, even if they don't have the same snazzy directing style.

I'm gonna let the trailers decide if I'll see this in theaters. Not gonna judge a film I haven't seen yet.

Who's the giant?

I just pray there isn't a joke where McCarthy's character falls down and we're supposed to find humor in it because she's bigger. After watching the trailer for Boss, it does feel like she's always playing a variation of the same character, which is a slightly to overwhelmingly obnoxious woman who insults people who slight her with profanity laced personal attacks.

So Fetch! :hrt:

Yeh Chris Farely isnt very funny at all.

I knew someone would bring this up. Yes, he had "fat man fall down" movies too. Unfortunately he passed away too soon. If he had lived and was on his 5th movie where it was the same schtick, he probably would have had the same criticisms too.

Look at Seth Rogen. He was great in 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up. Then you realize that's pretty much the only character he can play and so his movies feel repetitive.

They really need to release some better and more fun pics soon. The past three have just looked uncomfortable for McCarthy and Wiig. They look bored, stiff and like they are being forced to put on an unnatural tough pose.

Mckinnon has looked rad and right at home though.

thats the point of the male poses IMO

There's plenty of model pics, film promotional material etc that pull that off. But it's not working here specifically for Wiig and Mcarthy. I've seen them both pull of the the tough pose before. Here, they look confused as to how they are meant to stand. As a few other have said it looks like a parody or spoof. If that's the goal then they succeeded.

They need to look more laid back, or get some stronger bad ass pics going on if that's the route they wanna go for promoting.

I'm waiting to see the trailer too! I want to like this movie, I really do. I love the original Ghostbusters. But everything that I have read and seen is not pleasing to me at all. I'm not a huge Paul Feig fan, sure he has made a couple movie that I have enjoyed looking at his film history. My wife has watched some of his movies or similar movies, such as Bridesmaids, Spy, The heat and etc. Its just not my personal taste in comedy. The moment I read somewhere this was going to be "Bridesmaids with Proton Packs" I was immediately turned off by this. I really don't care this is an all female cast. I wouldn't care if this was a mixed sex cast or an all men cast. I just know from what I have watched of Paul Feig of recent and the talks that this movie will be similar to those is a major turn off. I hate this is a remake, I'd rather had a sequel with the passing of the torches, I think this movie has just been handled wrong from the very beginning.
Now, with all that said, I'll still be waiting on the trailer for my final judgment. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised and and be ready to go see this movie.... or.... Maybe I'll still want to kill it and burn it with fire. But at least I'm willing to give it a chance. All this judgmental "your a sexist" for not liking this movie BS is growing tiresome.

It isn't judgmental when they do it...because they're right about everything, and everyone else is a sexist/homophobe/racist. If you disagree, you're a bigot and a wife beater.

You can't reason with zombies.

can we not make this about about men vs women
it's these unfunny people taking over for much more talented predecessors that should be the only issue

women can be just as funny as men, but these women aren't

I like Kate McKinnon on SNL. She's genuinely funny.
As someone else said, Leslie Jones whole schtick is she's big and black and wants a man. Hopefully the character.
McCarthy can be really funny. But she's more than just fat jokes and I hope they don't rely on that.

I hate Wiig. She always hogs the spotlight and makes it about her.

I think McKinnon tries way too hard, Idk, feel like I'm watching a High School play with a quirky girl who thinks she's way funnier than she is.
Jones and McCarthy both have schticks that they hold fast to, though Melissa can be funny in supporting roles
and Wiig, I have found funny at times, but as the 'straight man' which it seems she's playing here, she's always awkward and painful to watch

It was always the subtlety to the jokes and the way they were all essentially the straight man in the original GB that made the humor stand the test of time so well. No goofy faces, silly voices, or prat falls (well maybe Akroyd had a pratfall or two). just classic comedy for the heroes, and leave the overly silly stuff for your Louis/Vince Clorthos

Agreed about the subtle humor. I'm not trying to take away anyone's excitement towards this. End of the day, I can still watch the original whenever I want. Part of me though wishes this was a continuation of the original series rather than a straight up reboot/re-imagining.

I'm trying to take away their excitement :woot:
if it fails, we won't have to deal with a sequel, and people won't make money off this nonsense!

kidding, lest people get pissy
if someone finds these people funny, they can have at it
