The New Ghostbusters - Part 5

I for one will not be contributing a dime to watching this inevitable piece of rotting garbage.

Meanwhile Ernie Hudson is making the convention circuit and staying far away from Boston. Good man.

Bill Murray says yes to this version of Ghostbusters, but says no to a third movie with Akyroyd.

More like Bill Murray says yes to a big fat sack full of cash, but says no to the idea of actually working for it.

Oh the whining here is glorious. Yeah, this couldn't possibly work. I've heard fans say that before, often before it works and they end up looking really foolish. Here's an idea, maybe Murray's doing it because, unlike others, he's not instantly horrified by the idea of an all-female Ghostbusters team. And he thinks that it'll be fun (just like Thor btw).

I'm pretty psyched. Perhaps he likes what he sees, but that reasonable explanation could never be.

Also, Ernie Hudson had to back out of Wizard Con Chicago. A commitment came up.

Sorry Bill you supporting this is still not enough to get me to see this & I have no doubt that both cameos will be advertised & shown in the Trailers & TV Spots anyway

I haven't seen nearly enough to know how this will turn out and I don't think anyone else has either. I get the beef with the constant reboots, but there has been way too much animosity over the fact that the team is all-female alone. Every slight variation of what came before is met with over-the-top outrage, from the suits being called bad cosplays just because they now have orange stripes to the Ecto-1 sucking just because they're using a different model of hearse now. Fanboys can be a really big pain in the ass sometimes, and I don't think even having Peter, Ray, and Winston in this in supporting roles would have quelled all the sexist whiners.

The issue isnt that he's doing a cameo, or how well it will be done.

The issue here is that he refused to play a role or even cameo in GB3 for 20+ years. And now, once Harold Ramis has died and a real GB3 will never happen, he decides he wants to do a cameo. And in this film no less.

It's a big slap in the face to the fans, as well as his castmates who were all willing and able to return but never got the chance since the studio wouldn't greenlight without him on board.

Poor Harold Ramis (along with Akyroyd) wrote and rewrote the damn GB3 script an unreasonable amount of times to try to get him to board. He he flat out refused.

Perhaps he's doing this one in Ramis's memory, but it flat out sucks he refused to do GB3 until it was too late.

In a away, it does suck. I totally get it. Bill friggin' Murray was the one I've been watching for years, hoping he'd budge on GB3. He didn't and it will never happen now. But...what if he just honestly didn't like what he saw? I know the reports are that he never read the script and stuff, but who really knows with ol' mysterious Bill. Maybe he did and he just wasn't impressed. And so, what if he does like what he's seeing with the new film? What if this brought him out of the shadows because he likes the cast and direction it's going in and he's showing his approval?

Let's face it...Bill Murray does not need the money. I always thought that if the new film was different enough, he'd be a part of it. He just doesn't want another GB2 to happen (which I liked).

Isn't it funny that those of us assuming this new film is garbage are the same ones assuming the sequel that will never come to be would have been perfect? Whose to say that the movie Aykroyd was pitching just wasn't any good?

so, dan and bill are returning as what? glorified cameos, or like mentors? cause i can get down with that. that's what i wanted actually(well, i wanted weaver and oscar in it too but, maybe for the sequel)

Can't speak for Murray's cameo, but Dan's has already been leaked...

He's a Cabbie who swaps words with Wiig's character.

There is no reason to believe that they are playing Ray or Peter in anyway shape or form. It's still a reboot.

For the record, there is no solid proof that Murray is in this. They literally took pictures of him getting off a plane in Boston and have assumed that he's there for Ghostbusters.

Disturbing.

Disturbing...yes.

Disturbing that someone had to put this picture together of a sick kid.
Disturbing that someone would use this sick kid and make it look like he's rolling eyes Melissa McCarthy.
Disturbing that this picture keeps getting posted.

Leave the kid alone.

All the trades (Variety, Hollywood Reporter, EW, etc.) have gotten confirmation from production sources that's he's definitely in this.

In regards to who he's playing, there was a part in the original script that was specifically written for Murray. No telling if that's still the case but It probably is.

(SPOILER WARNING)

Yeh no ****
This movie has really brought out some of the worst in the fanfolks. Pretty gross.

1. The originals were military flight suits, what they are wearing now are sewer employee uniforms with reflective orange stripes. So yes, it looks like cheap cosplay because they don't match the originals.

2. The original Ecto was NOT a hearse, it was a Cadillac ambulance that had style. The thing they are using has no style, it's pug-fugly. But it's okay because that seems to be Paul's style.

And it's not just fanboys that are upset, the more people are finding out that this movie is not a sequel but a complete reboot with NO connections to the originals - the more disappointed they get. Once this thing gets a trailer this will flop just like Fantastic Four.

1. The suits look awesome and the exact same reflective tape is what I saw on the local fireman where I live and made it pretty cool. And everybody looking to reproduce the jumpsuits discovered that they are anything, but cheap. Wish they were to get one!

2. The model Cadillac used as Ecto in the original was used as BOTH a hearse and an ambulance. The idea of the Ghostbusters driving a hearse just fits and this, to me, makes it pretty cool.

Also, in your circles, your world of total disdain for this film based on very little, I can imagine your perception that everyone hates this film. But I don't see it. I see a GB fanbase that, as a whole, isn't ecstatic about the reboot, but not everyone hates it, there are the whiny misogynists out there, too, that have a primitive concept of what sexism is, and a general audience that doesn't care because they haven't seen a trailer yet. You know, because that could be something to clue us into how the movie might actually be.

Fantastic Four didn't fail because the 'fans' all hated Michael B. Jordan or because it didn't follow the source material perfectly. It failed because it ended up being just a mess of a film. At this point there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that should convince someone that this film will be victory or failure. That's why I can't take anyone seriously who says, "This film will be perfect in every way," and someone who would say, "Once this thing gets a trailer this will flop just like Fantastic Four." I mean, who says a trailer will flop a movie?

I just can't stand the idea of rebooting the classics, no matter who the cast is
Zemeckis said he's not letting anyone touch BTTF, and that's what Reitman should've done here
(and for the record, I also thought GB3 was a terrible idea)

This movie could have it's funny moments, but was it at all necessary to reap what the original movies sowed as opposed to making it its own thing? I get it, you want your movie to make money it probably doesn't deserve, but I'd respect it a hell of a lot more if they weren't riding a certainly much-more-beloved film's coattails.

Do i think this will flop? sadly no I do not
Would I like it to? yes absolutely
I never want to live in a world where children refer to the original GB as "the old one"

My children will always refer to it as the 'original' Ghostbusters.

Obviously, I'm for the new film. I'm excited that there is something like this I can take my kids to, something they might be able to relate to better than a movie from the 80's. I also like to see the franchise grow into something new and, if it's successful, spawn some new properties and merchandise.
