The original movie was just that, an ORIGINAL movie. Making the four main characters all male in an original movie doesn't make it a gimmick. Doing a remake of the same movie and rewriting the four main characters as females, and giving them a male secretary to boot, THAT is what makes it a gimmick.

It's like doing a remake of Dirty Harry about a no nonsense cop named Harriet Calahan. Or a remake of Rocky about a female boxer named Raquel getting a shot at the World Title. Those are all gimmicks.

Still don't understand why those would be gimmicks. The only reason those two characters were men to begin with is because we live in a society that enjoys pigeonholing genders into specific roles.

Im all for more diversity in movies, but I still look at it kinda sideways for the fact that it has the same exact racial make up of the previous movies.
I keep hearing how this is good for diversity but it's still ignores other types of people.

This doesnt speak to the actual quality of the movie. That's just how I view it.

maybe "stunt casting" rather than "gimmick" to be nice about it??
but either way, taking your cast and completely flipping it just for the sake of doing something different?.. that there is the literal definition of Gimmick

Gimmick- n. a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or business.

A mixed cast, with no concern for how many are women or men or black or white or hispanic, but just getting the best/funniest actors? that's diversity

saying "well the old one was all men, so now we'll make one that's all women!" is a PR stunt

and personally, I don't give a s*** about the genders of the actors in this film, my issue is that they're not funny and were just hired because, to Hollywood, stunt casting in a seperate-but-equal reboot film = equality

Except this tired "I just want the best person for the job" line of thinking has always led to the same type of people getting hired over and over and over....

Honestly, will this really ruin the original films for some here? I just don't get it, but I only truly consider the first film to be good. lol The **** terminator sequels doesn't ruin the first two awesome Terminator films for me. Eh.

I see this argument a lot, but I look at it more like this:
will a crappy reboot/sequel/prequel/spinoff literally destroy every single print of a movie you liked as a child, therefore "destroying" the film? no, obviously not
But will it ruin any excitement you have for future installments? Most likely. Will it make you cringe when you hear the name of something you loved in the context of it's pale imitation? hells yes.

So if this movie sucks, (as, based on the talent involved, some believe it will) it won't ruin The 1984 Ghostbusters film, but it can diminish your overall feelings towards the franchise in general.

So would it "destroy your childhood"? No, that's clearly exaggeration, and one I don't care for. But it is still upsetting, more in terms of the future rather than the past

What's the point of all of these original actors in this? More than one cameo is idiotic and dumb, make it a sequel and it would be better but almost as annoying since we'd all rather just watch a film with those original actors.

Almost no one is ****ing on this movie because its about female Ghostbusters. But that's all Feig and the media have focused on.

The issue that a vast majority of fans have is them abandoning the old continuity for no reason, and with a (dare I say it) gimmicky concept of a team of female Ghostbusters.

That's not saying it'll be bad (though many fear it could be), but it's a pointless reboot, with a pointless gimmick. Because if they had to reboot, they could've just recast the old characters. And any other time, the studio would have.

ok first i will agree with you about it being stupid of them dropping continuity, but if you think people arnt *****ing about this for being an all female cast you really havnt seen some of the vile **** that is being said about these actress's
