The New Ghostbusters - Part 5

I fail to see the agenda in this cast. Sony hired Paul Feig, after years and years of non-starters with Akroyd. Feig has had some success, so it should make sense. But, let's look at the movies he has had success with. See a trend? It is quite honestly where his "I just think women are funnier" line comes from. He has had TREMENDOUS success with female lead comedies. So, it really doesn't seem like some grand PC conspiracy here. It just one guy staying within his safe zone.

And once you realize how important it can be for minorities to see representation, you find all the arguments about "pandering" to be really disgusting.

Agreed with your comments on Feig.

I'm sure the male to female speaking role ratio is substantial at least being 2:1, but are white women really considered minorities? They have to take up like what...75-80% of female actresses and models we see in hollywood?

With Cinderella, Spy, Trainwreck, Pitch Perfect, Fifty Shades, Diverngent, Tomorrowland and Star Wars at least 7 of the top 25 grossing films this year will have a lead white female.

-You forgetting the part where he cast the hunky sex symbol as the team's secretary in a forced attempt to turn history on its head? Gimmie a break.

-Yea there's never been any strong female leads represented in the history of film... this director is breaking brand new ground:hmr:

1. Again, see playing it safe to his strengths. And really, that's what Sony wants. A nice safe movie that makes money. Which is why they brought on someone who has had some good success with comedies of late.

2. sigh. No one said that. There is nothing wrong with wanting a different cast make up. But calling it a gimmick or pandering is belittling to others. If things were equal, there would not be such accusations.

And being upset is that this movie isn't connected to the originals is a completely seperate issue to the cast's gender. If that is really your issue, then I don't see why there is a need to attack the character's gender.

I do look forward to this movie. I am fairly confident in most of the cast. But, then again, I wrote off Ghostbusters 3 with the passing of Ramis.

we have a winner well said, sadly it seems few can look past the two sides arguing. both sides extreme vocal memebers seem to have a real with us or against us mentality

my personal dislike of this film has got sfa to do with it being a female cast its to do with not liking the directors and cast past works.

Because some people are sexist and they don't even realize that they are. A lot of people who might believe that they have progressive views instantly believe that a Star Wars film starring a woman and a black guy is gimmicky, any genre film not starring a white male is gimmicky according to some people. Women should only be love interests or at best a supporting character who kicks butt, the same goes for non white males.

Those feelings are because Hollywood only gave us one point of view for decades and decades so it's an understandable reaction to a certain degree. It is going to take us a long time to even begin to correct the white male is the only lead idea.

Ridiculous!

It all boils down to what made the original great with the core audience: the characters, story and chemistry with the actors. Everybody has been eagerly awaiting a sequel or a film that passes the torch to a new team, not a complete reboot that is trying to erase the originals. Boom, complete alienation of the core audience leading to internet discussion wars, twitter battles, and dehumanizing people who don't agree with what side your taking on this project. They took a risk with the first one, even Ivan Reitman didn't want to do Stay-Puft for an end battle but he took the risk and everything paid off greatly. They were risk takers, Paul is playing it safe and doing what he knows. When this tanks and ends up in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart by next Christmas, we might get another Ghostbusters project to the fans' liking in five years. It just sucks that most of us will be pushing 40 by the time we see a GB film that will be more familiar to what we loved about the originals.

I am kind of curious just how much Ghostbusters fans want a Blues Brothers 2000.

Judging by the responses I read, Paul IS taking a risk. Taking a popular franchise geared towards guys and rebooting it with four girl leads. Sounds risky to me. Taking a Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, bring the old actors and passing the torch would be the safe route.

I wonder how much of the trepidation is the all female cast, etc...and how much of it is the realization that we're going to get a 2016 comedy and not a 1980's one. People want something that "feels like" Ghostbusters in multiple respects, and I just doubt that was ever going to happen. It's intriguing nontheless.

To me, Ghostbusters is about people that bust ghosts for money like its a pest control service. Like its a blue collar job.

Guess what. Women can have blue collar jobs too. So why can't women be Ghostbusters?

Dude GB fans have been asking for a female Ghostbuster in the films for years. Emma Stone, Kristen Wiig and Anna Faris were fan casted for quite sometime now.

...and there were female ghostbusters like Janine and Kylie already on the team with the comics and Extreme GB. If anyone is arguing that Women can't have a "blue collard job" or be a Ghostbuster it's a dumb **** argument.

It's the fact it's only a female team in a world that already had very established characters for years over the movies, cartoons and comics that's pissing people off. There is no way and I mean no way that cutting out the history and all male characters were gonna go lightly with fans until this movie comes out and proves it's awesome. Maybe to you or others all that matters is the Ghostbusting, but that is not the case to countless fans.

I can completely understand the anger over sexist comments, that's flat out bs. But I also can't even seem to fathom why a few on the more accepting side of a forum based around fandom are trying to act so clueless as to why fans who grew up with this up to the modern comics and video games are pissed. Changes like this are obviously gonna piss hardcore fans off. This happens all the time! And with Ghostbusters being an extremely popular IP and part of alot of peoples childhood it's no shock at all.

That's a marketing issue. Feig is not going to be pushing himself creatively. He is probably sticking close to what has given him his hits.

Here's the thing. People tend to not vocalize their anger very well. The biggest question that no one seems to answer when I ask it, is if all guys is okay, and mixed team is okay, how is all women "pandering to the SJW agenda". Changing things is one thing, but really, not being a continuation has very little to the actor's genders.

And to be frank, I have seen far too much of the ugly side of the fandom over the past few years. You begin to see very similar trends in how they react to things. To be fair, many might not realize just how bad it comes off to others. I was one of them.

It's only pandering to Feig's ideas, and I don't mean that in a bad way. If this was the first GB team and it was all Women, there wouldn't be any issues. While not as extreme, if this was an all male team sequel it also would get backlash. When the other script in the works was rumored to be all male that set off the other side of the argument immediately until the writer said it was not all male. Both sides are ready for blood, and hate.

Personally I really like this cast. But that said, I don't see the benefits of having a gender specific team one way or the other for a modern film of this size outside of Feig being at helm and having been successful and liking working with only lead women. So I'm curious on what he cooks up here.

Ghostbusters having huge merchandising potential and all should no doubt be for both younger male and female viewers in this day and age. The younger ones for the most part care about what characters they can role play as and relate to based on their sex. Cutting off or replacing one demo for another on an established mainstream property should not be the goal here imo. The goal should be expanding their characters in sex and ethnicity. Not portraying that it needs to be one or the other per series.

If people are not a fan of Feig, or don't know who he is then the fact that there are zero men on the team and they were replaced with women was bound to raise an eye in some form. Casting a male who is usually known for being an action hero as the receptionist also threw some gas on that fire for people already not liking this idea. It's a full gender reversal. Overall this really doesn't happen alot or even come close to this extent with franchises. Add PC tension getting insane the past few years along with the Sony leak and alot of conspiracy types, hardcore GB fans and people just not familiar with who Feig even is are gonna show up to comment wondering why are they changing it. The FB page for Ghostbusters is not a happy place.

True true.

Until changes with existing Ip's like this happen more often and are proved for the better quality that attitude in general won't budge. As for fans and how they react to changes well... that hate will always be there. Along with a share of hurtful comments.

Heck if it's awesome there will still be comments cause it's different then what people wanted, but at least it will have the support. I still get in arguments with old school BSG fans about how Kara Thrace is the better Strabuck. But they are nowhere near as bad as when Season 1 started.

neon garbage
is that an actual photo, or a bts set pic?
maybe blurry and off-center is the cinematography style their going for..?

It's ok. I don't hate it but it still looks like a comic-con parody of Ghostbusters to me. Hopefully this means a trailer is coming soon and then we can judge if it still feels like Ghostbusters.

It's because it does look good. It does remind me of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon comic.

Just going to hold further comments and judgment until I see a trailer.
