is it true the embargo was moved to release date?

Clip from (presumably) their first call:

Clip from the final battle:

The likes and dislikes for these videos are practically 80 likes to 400 dislikes

As for my opinion... not impressed with the first call one, the final battle looks like a spoof of ghostbusters with all the throwing ghosts around and doing all the action fight sequence stuff

He said there's mixed messages, but he said that the embargo is supposed to be lifted Sunday evening UK time for reviews to make Monday morning papers for those that still get them.

It's honestly hard to tell if his demeanor was an acting choice, or personal. It worked for the character. Either way, he isn't just there to be a piece of gender propaganda.

jake you and I are in sync with everything but the overall opinion of the movie. I agree that his character, as the skeptic/debunker, is supposed to be dismissive towards the team however it felt beyond that for me, like being there was a chore, which after learning about the Sony emails sounds like it could've been. I think you're right about him not being a piece of gender propaganda but can see how some people would view it that way. Assuming of course his scenes are the same as what we saw.

I'm flabbergasted at their marketing team. I've seen a lot of test screenings in my time, and this is just odd.

I would be very interested in seeing this if it didn't have the Ghostbusters brand attached to it. That's the honest truth. What I see makes me believe I'd have a good time, in a Paul Feig kind of way, but somehow making it a Ghostbusters film just rubs me the wrong way.

I respect Campea's opinion, cant wait to hear what he has to say,

Honestly, if it actually turns out to be pretty decent comedy sci-fi like Men in Black or whatever, I would be fine with it.

The first MIB film is more than just a "decent" film though.

It just occurred to me that maybe the strategy here is to make the trailers so bad, that by comparison the fact that it's a fairly average film, will make people feel like "Hey, that's better than I thought it would be".

They aren't that smart, Feig and co. already managed to turn a lot of people off from this by namecalling and being dickish.

You know something? Tom Rothman was very open about inviting the backlash so you may be right.

These clips aren't bringing teh funny.

Man oh man, this is going to be a disaster. I'm going to see it, but I am expecting the absolute worst. We might be witnessing movie history here.

Looks like a disaster yes. But second half of F4 disaster? Don't think I'll ever witness something like that again. Or maybe that was the worst kick of all of them because the first half was entertaining and promising then.... we know what came next. It felt like watching a car accident pile up.

I'm sure its been talked about, but how bad was that? I tried watching it on TV the other day, and I got bored like 30 minutes in.

I erased it from memory. I haven't bought it. I just try to pretend like it doesn't exist. On the record - I own Green Lantern, Wolverine: Origins, Blade III, and Batman & Robin. This one I try to forget as one bad fever dream. Best way I know how to put it.

It's on and off with me regarding Campea. He liked Terminator Genisys and the theatrical cut of BvS.

He tends to be very reactionary and heavy handed with his opinions. Not a lot of nuance.

Early reaction seems to be good based on twitter. If this does in fact turn out to be better than expected it will go down as one of the worse marketing campaigns in movie history.

/\ Same thing happened with Independence Day. Granted I loved that film, I know majority disagrees with me despite initial word being good. Basically gonna just sit and wait until reviews start piling up on RT rather than getting any hopes up.

I don't think ID4:R's marketing did it a disservice at all.

He's an idiot.

Nah, he's a good guy. Used to listen to him and Doug Nagy during their Movie Blog days religiously. When they split, it was never the same.

Just fell off interest-wise, and honestly it's the same old, same old conversation. Fans as a whole do not evolve, and John has been feeding these kind of questions, reactions, etc. for a decade now. Honestly don't know how he still does it.

A follow up on this

I just catched the ending of a TV spot for Latin America with the original Ray Parker Jr theme. Is that a new thing?

It wasn't a TV spot per se, it's a promo for Sony Channel Latin America calling for people to dubsmash the original Ghostbusters theme, to promote the movie. So not a movie TV spot, but still, using the original theme for promotion of the movie.

You can watch it here
