Is Ice Age competition? I didn't know those movies were still popular. I figured Pixar had cornered the market on kid's animation, but its not a genre of film I pay all that much attention to, so it could be some good non Pixar stuff slipped my radar.
Pixar, Disney and Despicable Me run this house.

In the extent that it takes screens. I don't see it being a big hit, but I think it will affect Pets and Dory more than Ghostbusters. And just kind of guessing how the demo for Ghostbusters is likely to shape up, I'm not sure how big of a dent Trek may do. Besides, there is room for multiple movies doing well in the summer.

I do have to say, I am kind of impressed with how well the reviews are holding up for this.

I know it's purely anecdotal, but my kids have no effs to give for Ice Age, but they are super excited to see Ghostbusters. 7 and 11 year old girls have been watching the original and the episodes of The Real Ghostbusters I still have on VHS all week. Plus they have been replaying the Ghostbusters game and the expansion level on Lego Dimensions.

I think kids will probably enjoy this movie more. Overall, everyone's mileage may vary a lot with this one - the guy next to me at the screening loved the original and he seemed to enjoy this one a lot, too.

This "Ghostbusters" has its strengths, but it didn't win me over. McKinnon, McCarthy, and Hemsworth were great, though.

They did love Secret Life of Pets though...I fell asleep and had a nice nap. What I saw of it was decent.

I agree with you abou McKinnon and Hemsworth, but I thought McCarthy was pretty average. Wiig was just phoning it in though.

Yeah, Wiig was kind of average for a straight man. I wish she had some kind of snark or edge to her, at the very least.

Oh, and did they keep
Wiig and McCarthy's painfully awkward reenactment of the song and dance routine they made up as kids?

I'm really getting excited myself. I'm anxious to see what made it through the test screening process and what was added in reshoots.

Overall, nothing super weird in the movie and what's there should work for a lot of people I think. It's not a failure by any stretch. For me, though, I just wanted more than a remake.

My kids don't really watch Ice Age. They are, however, bursting at the seams to see Ghostbusters. They're also boys. My little one's funny. Put on Zootopia or the new Charlie Brown and he's got some nice background noise to play to. Put on the last half hour of Ghostbusters and they're sitting and quoting the movie. I do have to explain why my five year old yells"it's Miller time!" every now and then.

All kids are different and, even though this stars girls, mine are attracted to the action. Lots of that and they're glued.

That's the 2 I was waiting for thx for sharing

Seen both well its seems it's pretty average and brings nothing new to the table I'll check it when it hits on demand

Hope you guys enjoy it though

I think a perfect alternative title for this movie would be Not Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. I doubt the internet has learned anything from this whole mess though.

Lots of people finding reviewers to validate their opinions on a movie they already decided was going to be bad. I am shocked. :wow: Did anyone else expect this to be a movie with 100% positive reviews?

This strikes me as this summers vacation reboot. Ok at first release then forgotten by the next summer

Well, the average rating is higher than Tarzan and Apocalypse, both movies which I really enjoyed. So, I'm kind of getting excited.

which I think is the impression of most people. But while most not that impressed okay movies get a rotten rating, with this one people are clicking on fresh. Hence why we are at 50% from top critics and 77% overall.

A movie that has 6.5/10 from critics is pretty much considered "average/ B or B-. I don't think there is anything weird with being "nothing impressive" and 6.5/10. And 6.5/10 movie getting 77% Tomatometer All The Time. Like, do people expect a movie with 6.5/10 to get Tomatometer in the sixties or fifties or something?

Secret Life of Pets: 74% and 6.2
BFG: 72% and 6.7
The Shallow: 76% and 6.5
The Conjuring 2: 80% and 6.6

And Ghostbusters: 77% and 6.5

Pretty consistent I think.

About the Top Critics, I can say that they are actually harsher when giving AR than when giving Fresh/ Tomatometer rating, hence the 6.2 AR and 50% Tomatometer among Top critics. The AR among all critics and Top critics are quite insistent (6.5 and 6.2), same for other movies too: Pets (6.2 and 6.5), BFG (6.5 and 6.7), The Conjuring 2 (6.6 and 6.6)

However there's a great discrepancy between Top critics' Tomatometer and their own AR. A movie given 6.2 (which is very much aligned with all critics' AR) by Top critics usually don't get 50% Tomatometer.

The Shallow: 5.9 AR and 66% Tomatometer (Top critics)
Neighbors 2: 5.7 and 62%.

Both have lower Top Critics' AR than Ghostbusters but have higher Top critics' Tomatometer (Ghostbusters has 50%).

If I were a SJW I'd probably say that a few (3 or 4 maybe) out of 12 Top Critics giving Ghostbusters a Rotten score actually have an ax to grind and intentionally do it despite giving it an average score. But I won't say so because top critics, like all critics, have different requirements for Fresh and maybe some happen to have very high bar for a movie to earn a Fresh score from them. But I don't think we can prove that critics happen to click on Fresh because of political agenda either, because as I said, all critics' AR and Tomatometer and Top critics' AR are very consistent, it's just that Top critics' Tomatometer is abnormally low for a 6.2 AR that they give the movie themselves.

I saw a mom singing the Ghostbusters song (the original) with her kids at the movies last week.

My nephew, who's 8, flipped out when I told him I had the Lego Dimensions set because he didn't know there was one. He asked me if I knew there was a new Ghostbusters movie coming out. And yes, he knows there's girls in it this time and didn't seem to care.

If it's good, I'll take him to see it. I hadn't even realized he'd seen the first one yet.

It seems my local theater changed there mind on the movie. They weren't looking to show it (and I was shocked), but demand has picked of with critic and fan reviewers and they decided they will now show it. Don't have to drive 45 min for repeat viewings now.

Seems weird didn't know Theaters had a choice of what they showed or not. They usually get there bookings Monday Night and put up their Schedule on Tuesday NIghts.
