Why is there even a discussion.....it will be marketed as "from the studio and producers of X-Men: Whatever the ****, and will be titled The New Mutants.

There is a discussion because no one knows yet what the final title will be. Though your guess is a good one.

I agree. It'll need good viral marketing
plus prof x, storm and maybe cameo by colossus - that should make it obvious

Get the folks from Deadpool to help with marketing. Granted, that was a comedy and this isn't, but a lot of that publicity and marketing for Deadpool was pretty clever.

The marketing for deadpool was pretty much all comedic, i mean there was abit of it with X-Men apocalypse using quicksilver for Energy drink and Sky tv ads or even Storm and nightcrawler for M&M's but for the most part you can't really have an X-Men character breaking the forth wall with jokes before showing a tv spot or have comedic posters of the X-Men

I'd point out for the 17th time that Alexandra has already said she'd not in the movie, but I don't think it'd be more effective than the previous 16 times. :woot:

Marc Weinstock's forte is actually R-rated comedies. But he isn't there nor is this film an R-rated comedy so yeah. (Not that the marketing team for Fox is bad or anything without Weinstock)

James mcavoy also said he had heard nothing about being in new mutants even though he was told by a certain actress who may or not be Anya Taylor-Joy who he was working with at the time that he is infact in it with kinberg also confirming Xavier is in new mutants.

Its possible they are in the script but their parts were not finalised enough to say anything to them so for example storm could have been written out during a rewrite or maybe she is in the film and they just were not sure if she was gonna stay in the script or not

We can't take the hitfix article that suggested storm was in it for granted because its also the article that suggested anya taylor-joy is playing Magik and it looks like they used her look for the animated storyboard so there must have been something to the rumor.

IMO, just call it The New Mutants. If it doesn't attract enough audience because the lack of X-Men, then so be it. I always saw the New Mutants (the 80s roster) just a splinter team but not really the X-Men. I don't want people to view these characters as the new X-Men especially if they are still students.

If people can recognize "Logan" they can recognize that a movie with the word "Mutants" has to do with the X-Men.

Josh Boone Reveals Which ‘New Mutants’ Comics Inspired His Script
We had loved this X-Men spinoff, The New Mutants. We had loved Bill Sienkiewicz’s run with Chris Claremont that had Demon Bear. It was really dark, interesting, and different from the typical X-Men stories that we had read.

After I made The Fault in Our Stars, we made Fox a comic book. It walked them through a trilogy of New Mutant films that would build on each other. We used this program called Comic Life, and took all the images we had loved from the series and strung them together to show them the movie we wanted to do.

We brought it to Simon and he really liked it. We’ve been going for the past year and a half to get it ready, and I’m about to go location scout and we have a release date now.

I'm so happy about this movie will be made.

Unlike deadpool I at least know new mutants apart from their appeances in X-Men comics I have in my collection

New Mutants graphic novel which introduced them

new mutants #1-3,5-7,14-17,19,26-28,46,78,87,95-100

new mutants special edition

cable and new mutants trade paperback which reprints issues with cable pre x-tinction agenda.

now for old timers like me:woot: this is spin-off to get excited for.defently more excited for this than deadpool II although that has my attention with cable and domino in it.

one of new mutants issues i have is part of demon bear sage.and another group introduced legion.

I recently re-read Claremont's first 50 issues of New Mutants. It is basically a Dani/Mirage book what I really enjoyed. I found her a very complex, non-stereotypical depiction and hope Boone will concentrate on her as much as Claremont. There are really great storylines to choose from. (It is so crazy to remember how important female characters are for this franchise and to see these Hollywood people totally ignore them in the last 16 years...)

I personally also really liked the time travel story in the end of Claremont's run where Illyana shatters the team in two different futures (one future where humans won and another one, equally apocalyptic, where the mutants one). But I think Boone will mainly highlight the aspects of magic and horror from the comic book (Belasco, Demon Bear, Magik etc. maybe some Inferno-esque third part??!?).

based on casting rumors my suspecion is Boone will focus on Magik and wolfsbane.Magic and horrir will probally be big elements of this film

I always say you want to read defente X-Men forget ultimate X-men and read Claremont's 1975-1991 comics.

With all the talk of Claremont between this and himself commenting on the X-Men popularity, or lack thereof, due to the films, heck, maybe Fox should have him help with something. Not necessarily to write or direct, but the guy gets the source material arguably better than most at Fox do right now.

Good idea, Claremont as a creative consultant. Unfortunately FOX is probably too stubborn for that.

Oddly enough, he apparently was asked for any feedback or a bit of consultation for Days of Future Past. Sounds minimal, but he did sound appreciative that Fox at least asked.

Claremont was asked about his impressions of the 20th Century Fox film - which is based on his classic two-issue storyline - by MTV Geek.

"Of all the arcs that I wrote, that's probably the most popular with fans," he said. "I've been asked to kind of, maybe be around for a little consultation. I won't have a lot of input at all, but it's nice that they asked.

So really, he might not have had any real input, but again, Fox at least reached out to him. Whatever Fox's plan is for the main films going forward, which is just a big question mark, getting someone like a Claremont that gets these characters would be good. But as you said, Fox would be too stubborn to do that.

Dani will get plenty of focus with the first movie being based around Demon Bear.

A New Mutants trilogy with Belasco, Demon Bear and Selene as villains would be great.

Well, Dani is unfortunately most of the storyline unconscious fighting for her life in a hospital room...so I'm a little afraid she will be used mainly as a plot device and will not get plenty of focus...

I hope Boone gets Dani right!
