Sequels The New Mutants - Josh Boone to Direct - Part 1

Well, Dani is unfortunately most of the storyline unconscious fighting for her life in a hospital room...so I'm a little afraid she will be used mainly as a plot device and will not get plenty of focus...

I hope Boone gets Dani right!

That was actually a disappointment for that story. I love the buildup to Demon Bear. I love Sienkiewicz's art all the way throughout, but the ending disappointed me. Granted, Illyana was a fairly new character at that point and she later became my favorite character, so this was basically giving her her big start.

Really barely anything gets announced, we know the films they wanna do but nothing has been revealed about release dates or filming times, anything casting wise came from leaked rumours, fox have been pretty mute on most these projects.

I think the phrase "announced" is overrated because whats announced? most things ain't announced, websites pick things up and it gets out into the public and alot of the time they just turn out to be right.

Okay, has the movie been given an official release date? Is what I was asking, and the answer is no.

quite honestly I don't like the so calle dphases of MCU.and I don't like studios announcing untitled film release dates.they should only make annoucements on release dates when they annouce what the films are.Fox and WB just as guilty of that as disney.

How many times did Marvel and DC change dates....and now there's gonna be a Batman movie before Cyborg... Like I already removed those DC dates in my calendar except for the ones that are surely going to be released next year. Scheduling these dates so advance is just so meh to now when I know they are gonna change it later for whatever reason. So I don't believe New Mutants will be released in early 2018 especially its not even official.

Thanks for the link.

Not a fan of the title. Should just be The New Mutants.

But as the article indicated, maybe this is not a spin-off but a continuation of the X-men series. Though Boone has also stated that he presented The New Mutants as a Trilogy so who the hell knows lol

Yeah, New Mutants needs to be looked at as it's own IP. Unless Fox plans for them to fully take over the X-Men franchise for the next trilogy. Which would be a mistake.

Probably just a tentative title anyways, so it's probably nothing to get worked up over about.

Depending on how the logo looks, it wouldn't be a big deal anyway. Just keep the X-Men small and New Mutants big and it'll be fine.

I don't mind them throwing X-Men in front of the title personally, people may not know this is in the same universe if not. Remember, there were plenty of people who thought Batman Begins was a prequel to Batman '89!

Fox is probably not that confident selling it without mentioning the X-Men in the title. And unlike Logan (which is the last Wolverine movie ever), they might want to make sequels out of this. Either way, this is gonna look like X-Men light to the general audience - so they might as well tag X-Men in the title.

Well it could confuse in 2 ways, if they use the X-Men title people will think its the next X-Men sequel rather then a spin off and if they don't include X-Men in the title people may not know its connected to the X-Men universe.

I'd argue not having it in the title is better since not every MCU marvel movie needs to include the marvel title for each movie for people to get it.

The title will probably be decided and finalised later on.

It's their next First Class trilogy.

I Also don't think they have enough confidence to just call it The New Mutants. Apocalypse's box office numbers probably reminded them and they don't want to take another risk. I mean a New Mutants film set in the past is already a risk.

It is just weird that Cyclops, Jean and Storm are barely X-Men in the last one and they want Xavier to train another set of students in another movie set in the past. It is just so over the place.

Deadpool and X-Force will keep this franchise alive but the rest, not so much. Logan is done next year. Gambit is in limbo state and you cannot feel the enthusiasm from people wanting to see it happen. And I don't why people would suddenly jump on board in another period X-Men film by making it as popular as Dofp unless its another time travel cross over event film.

Why is there even a discussion.....it will be marketed as "from the studio and producers of X-Men: Whatever the ****, and will be titled The New Mutants.

This is why we have these discussions.

these are strong opinions about a movie we have NO information about yet. :whatever:

Showing daily life at the institute could be something people are very much interested in. There are always hundreds of students running around at Xavier's campus in every movie. I think it is a great idea to give these nameless students their own episodic adventure. Not every students at Xavier's needs to be an X-Men. The Demon Bear Saga also takes place in one night at the Xavier institute while Xavier is out of town. I do not see why this set-up is in any way confusing for audiences because Jean, Scott and Storm are going to the same school.

I totally disagree that the X-Men world is all "over the place". I actually think it is a smart move to have different movies taking place in very different time periods because this is not forcing any director into the same schemas. It gives the X-Men universe a certain freedom to make great, creative movies, something the Marvel universe totally lacks (also because everything has to take place in the similar setting, using very similar commercial Disney aesthetics).

We do know certain things like the main roster which are all new except for Sunspot and Xavier. Demon Bear being the villain is now confirmed. I thought you follow the news and then you say we have NO information yet. Dude.

The movies being set in different time periods has already done a couple of damage to the continuity of the series. And no, there's nothing that benefited Apocalypse being set in the 80s other than to show that Cyke, Jean, Storm were teen and joined that team that decade. There is also the fact that they don't try to age the actor through make up and vfx to show that its been 10 years since the last one.

There's also a pattern at the box office that every time Fox releases a X-Men movie set in the past, people tuned out, people see them as another prequel and it doesn't grab their interest to watch the movie. And this isn't like the Hobbit, Harry Potter and Star Wars, where they could release anything, set them somewhere in the past and it will still perform well. First Class and Apocalypse didn't, even if you say the later earned 500 million worldwide, it is still way down from Dofp and Deadpool. I don't see why it would be different to X-Men 93 and New Mutants especially there would be more Dc and Marvel films that would be released every year which could just take away people's interest to see another X-Men film set in the past. Are people buzzing over The New Mutants' animated test scene like Deadpool's leaked test footage, nope.

I hope they take the X-Men out of the title. And everything about this movie sounds promising. If this is as succesful as Deadpool (or succesful, period) FOX will finally after years of being stubborn realize letting fans make the movies will turn out great results. Maybe late, but it will ensure a bright future for their CBMs.

The thing is Deadpool has a big fanbase, people were angry when they screwed him up in Origins, the movie was planned for years, plus he got a solo videogame which just shows that there's a market for Deadpool things other than the comics. The movie was also low budgeted like even if it flopped, it wouldn't hurt them compare to a 100 million dollar movie flopping or underperforming.

New Mutants in the other hand, I don't think they were as popular as the X-Men. They aren't that distinct compare to Deadpool. I don't see anyone complaining when Sunspot was an extra in Dofp or when Cannonball was cut in Deadpool. Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Warlock, Demon Bear, Lockheed would require a lot of money when it comes to VFX. Like don't get me wrong, I like New Mutants, if there should be a X-Men spin off movje featuring a group of mutants, it should be them first. But with the period setting, Xavier being their trainer, this might look like a random X-Men film to people. Like oh here's the other mutants you don't know about that are studying in the Xavier Institute, go watch the movie!
