God dammit Marvel. I'm all for retitling Thor, the Mighty Thor like it should be, this is just going to make my Thor collection look as ******ed as my Hulk collection :cmad:

heh keep the same book in the same "slot"

I will but now it's going to look like Thor #621, Journey into Mystery #622, then the Mighty Thor #1. Journey into Mystery will probably end up getting canceled and when it comes time for the Mighty Thor #700, Marvel will renumber the series while not counting Journey into Mystery so I'll end up having this big chunk of Journey into Mystery right in between Thor #621 and what Marvel will inevitably count as Mighty Thor #622 :cmad:

It's ****ing Hulk all over again :argh:

I wonder whats going to happen with Captain America books, but yeah Coipel on Thor is pretty jawesomeness incarnate.

Marvel will probably relaunch Captain America in time for the damn movie :cmad:

Jeez man, i am so sick of relaunches. I mean i GET IT, relaunches= sales spikes but still, its so damn annoying. Relaunches are supposed to be big and exciting but when you do it every 5 months, it just doesnt have any impact anymore.

I'm conflicted though, I havent been reading Fraction's thor but i hear its utter nonsense but....coipel's art is fantastic. He's literally half the reason Thor is a mainstream beast right now. I'll wait to hear the reviews on Mighty Thor.

On the other side, Journey into Mystery with Gillen and Doug Braithwaite. No brainer but....can a Thor book without Thor survive in this modern, hostile market?

Same here, I am so damn sick of relaunches. Especially when you have the same damn creative team on them. I'd rather see a book that is in the triple digits than a new #1.

Ferry is coming back so it's not like Copiel matters all that much.

That said, I personally find myself really liking Fraction's Thor the way I've been liking Fraction's Invincible Iron Man.

No. I expect this book to end up dropping like a rock just like how Dark Wolverine did when fans realized that Wolverine was not coming back or Incredible Hercules did when fans realized that Hulk was not coming back or Black Panther: The Man Without Fear will once fans realize that Daredevil is not coming back.

I swear Marvel's getting incredibly desperate with this whole "NEW JUMPING ON POINT FOR NEW READERS!!!!!!!!" thing. All these relaunches and multiple side books....they're just plain not working. When Thor relaunched 3 years ago, it was a huge top 10 seller because a) Thor had been absent for 4 years, b) there was only ONE Thor book, so everyone who wanted to read about Thor had to buy that book. Marvel's trying soo hard to recreate that same magic but...this isn't the way to do it.

Marvel and DC should sell graphical novels for new comers really. DC should promote Long Halloween since Nolan himself is inspired by it, Killing Joke 25th year aniversity edition actually has a little quote from Tim Burton to catch interests by 89-Batman fans, so yeah we should see cheaper visionairies of the Walter Simonson Thor and other stuff to hook in new readers. These 4-issue minis and relaunches are just ridicilous.

I honestly think they should just do original, one-in-done 100-page OGNs and then release them when the movies come out. I think if marketed the right way, new readers would be much more attracted to buying these original stories alongside the movies rather than these $4-$5 relaunch issues.

But can Coipel make a deadline is my question. Not that I care because I'm dropping the Fraction Thor and going with Gillen's Journey into Mystery. Fraction bores the hell outta me. This is the 2nd time it's been retitled to that, the first being post Onslaught. This relaunch makes 0 sense but give it a year after the movie and JIM will be back to THOR.

Runawayboulder, that's EXACTLY whats going to happen. Marvel's just trying to maximize on the movie as much as humanly possible, cuz y'know, the kiddies want a shiny new #1, and plus we the fans are suckers to them too.

And isn't it sad that we're all ALREADY proclaiming JIM's demise? It really shows you state of the comic industry, and eventhough it'd be wonderful if we were all wrong and JIM was successful...i dont see it happening without Thor being in the title. Heck even if he WAS in the book, it still would be overshadowed by The Mighty Thor.

When JIM becomes THOR again does Gillen still stay writer? That would be nice. I'm still holding out hope he can save the X-franchise.....or maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up. Gen Hope has been underwhelming.

Well, Copiel is tackling the 1st arc starting with issue 1 but then Ferry takes over. So yea, I think Copiel can stay on deadline :woot:

Doubt it, more like Journey into Mystery gets canceled like the Incredible Hercules and Dark Wolverine while Marvel continues on with the Mighty Thor and wait to renumber it once it approaches what should be the Mighty Thor #700.

Wow - I suggested they do this a while ago. I thought it would have been better to launch the fraction run as a 2nd ongoing from the start as Gillen did such a great job standing in after JMS threw the head up. Good news as Gillen is the better writer imho it will be interesting to see which gets the better sales. I see this as marvel being less confident in the current direction by fraction and this gives them more options. Gillen is returning to the world of thor! :awesome:

Oh, The Mighty Thor will sale more, it's almost a given. If Thor were actually in JIM as well, maybe, but when it's Thor versus his supporting cast, I really do think Thor will come out on top.

yeah that probably will be the case - though you never know Thor is bound to be in JIM in some capacity and I bet that JIM will be a lot less shallow that fractions run had been up to now.

Even if Thor were in Gillen's Journey into Mystery, Fraction's the Mighty Thor will sell more, just like how Fraction's the Invincible Iron Man sold more than the Knauf's Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Thats the thing. One of the problems with the modern comic market is that the publishers place emphasis on the "important" titles and the ones that "matter". Fraction's book will be THE Thor book and no one will care to read JIM, even if Thor is in it. This relaunch is all about the quick cash grab from the movie....which makes me fear for Captain America.....

After this news, Cap is f-ed. No doubt about it. The entire line is going to be turned on it's ear. Bucky will killed off/maimed/given some new crappy ID and possibly given his own title that won't sell. Steve will be back as Cap instead of the more interesting Commander role, not even giving it proper time to settle in.
