Right, and there's no such thing as character development, either.

And by character development I mean something akin to the idea of character development in some classic movies known simply as "teacher and rookie." Teacher is not necessarily the right word, but conveys the right meaning.

Movies like "The Magnificent Seven," "The Great Escape," "Lethal Weapon," "Dirty Harry," and such.

Wherein Aquanewb would be the rookie and Batman, et al. would be the teachers.

Oh, right. Character development. Wait, what? They're always supposed to be static!

Aquanewb as the rookie to Metamorpho's teacher would be awesome. They had good chemistry in that Five of a Kind issue.

Anyone else annoyed that Five of a Kind really didn't do what it said it would? One issue saw NEITHER guy make it in, and another issue appears to have let BOTH of them in, while two other members look to just be joining up independent of that. And depending on what exactly "not in the Outsiders on a regular basis" means, the Aquaman-Metamorpho ish might have let both guys in too!

I mean, I know it's been awhile since 5oaK came out, but it still gets my hackles all up. Isn't there a better fifth-week event out there that they could have pulled?

Yeah, that was odd. It didn't really bother me, though. There were some good stories, like the Aquanewb/Metamorpho one and the Thunder/Martian Manhunter one. I even enjoyed Katana/Captain Marvel. Sure, it was ridiculously obvious who was joining and who wasn't before it ever started, but whatever.

I'm actually more upset about the fact that Five of a Kind supposedly set up the new Outsiders with much fanfare, yet we're going to have a largely different permanent Outsiders just a few issues into the new series. I know that's due to the creative changes, but come on, just 3 issues with the team that 5oaK set up?

I agree. I would also like Metamorpho to come to the foreground of the team. I feel like he doesnt get the time he deserves and the least amount of lines even though he is probably the most experienced permanent member (outside of Batman)

I haven't been keeping track; is this supposed to be one of those books where we get ever-changing lineups depending on the mission or something? I mean, by February we get both Green Arrow and Batgirl.

Yeah basically Dixon said he's taking over the book so he is going to do what he'd like and not carry someone elses ideas or stick to Editorial ideas. Which is fair enough really.

That's too bad. I think J'onn brings way more to the team than Green Arrow and Batgirl put together.

More than Green Arrow, certainly. I'm guessing Batgirl's going to be there as penance for her horrifically out-of-character actions since One Year Later, which should provide a good character arc with Dixon writing.

As I've said before, though, I'd like J'onn to stick around on the Outsiders, but if he's leaving for the JLA, that's fine by me.

Agreed. I think thats the only reason he should leave too. Although, if the new writer is going to have a constantly changing team that could be cool too (like Marvel's Exiles), but i think hes just setting up his permanent team.

The Outsiders have a dirty reputation to uphold. They don't need to be sullying every superhero's name with that. It should be a static lineup.

That's also why, much as I wish I could see a lot more of J'onn, Outsiders isn't the book. He's the Justice League stalwart--if anyone needs an unsullied reputation, it's him.

Especially since Batman is turning it into a covert team his abilities as a shapeshifter and invisibility make him a prime candidate.

Did you not read 5 of a Kind? Aquanewb has access to that underwater teleportation network. Anyway, lots of the characters don't offer anything specifically necessary for covert ops. What does Katana do that Catwoman or Batgirl can't do better? What does Grace do that J'onn can't?
