The Northman

Claes Bang is awesome, and I feel bad that I haven't seen more of his earlier stuff, but his performance in this and that Dracula show have definitely made me a fan of his work.

Skarsgard is the MVP of the movie for me though because its such a different, raw performance compared to his previous work, but Nicole Kidman and Anya Taylor Joy brought their A game too.

I just remembered Nicole and Skarsgard played wife and husband in Little Big Lies but are mother/son in this.

...they were married in Big Little Lies! How'd I forget that? All this time, with the film being titled "The Northman," I only kept making True Blood connections with his character there literally being named Eric Northman.

Isn’t Nicole almost 20 years older than Alex? So I guess it makes sense. Especially during that time period.

Is there a literary property or something that you’ve ever had your eye on?

Everyone knows about “Nosferatu.” That’s not a literary property, but it’s something that I didn’t self-generate, but hopefully, if that ever happens, my version is something new.

Is that still a potential project?

I hope so. But clearly the ghosts of Murnau are unsure if I am capable or something.

Was it Harry Styles dropping out that caused it to be paused this last time?

That’s what The New Yorker says.

There was also talk of you doing a Rasputin miniseries.

I don’t see how we could get any plate shots in Russia. But probably not. I love Rasputin but probably not.

You’ve talked about an Elizabethan film you’re working on. Will that have a supernatural element?

Yeah, I mean, presumably.

You’ve talked about not wanting to do a modern movie…

So why would I want to do “Fast and Furious?”

Well how far into the future would you go? Early 20th century?

I could be interested in the early 20th century. And I would also, if I could figure out a way to do it that hasn’t really been done before, in a way that would be satisfying for me, but I would also be interested in science fiction. I don’t know if I could find the right thing. I don’t know if I could pull it off. But I’d be interested.

Like on a spaceship?

Only time will tell.

Hmm. Elizabethan film with supernatural elements.

Not sure what to make of that. Ghost story?

Took a few days to marinate on this one. It’s a crazy, bold and beautiful movie with fantastic performances, brutally realistic fight scenes and interesting characters.

Yet I am still not sure if I enjoyed it. It’s relentlessly dark and grim and a hard watch but it absolutely needs to be seen on the big screen. But I probably wouldn’t watch it again. I couldn’t wait for it to end and yet I wanted the final confrontation to go on longer. I would still recommend totally for people to see it. But it won’t be for everyone that’s for sure.

8/10 but I thought The Witch was tighter and this needed to be a littler shorter.

Yeah. Especially if he brings that raw, feral energy that he did here.

Hot take: the first MCU X-Men movie should have Sabertooth and save Wolverine for a sequel.

On demand after 3 weeks? That’s insane.
