I hope they don't change the content, either.

Just thought about it now, but the cutscene
where you cross the lake near the Chocobo farm and see the Midgar Zolom impaled on a tree
is already pushing into M territory, along with a few of the more graphic scenes.

Do you guys think, in terms of appearance, it would need to be a completely realistic, a la FFXIII or should they preserve some of the "cartoonish" quality from the original?

I'd be fine with cartoonish, if they make the characters look as good as they did in Kingdom Hearts. I just don't want them to censor the game. I want those bloody Shinra halls.

I'm hoping for realistic.

just like you saw in Advent Children or whatever that anime movie was.

similar style to that.

or Crisis Core.

If they're true to the original game (part of which is being more stylized), that's pretty much the only way they could ever hope to rope me into this thing.

and speaking of Crisis Core.........where's the HD console remake of that??

I wouldn't mind if the graphic art is a bit stylized, instead of totally realistic.

I'm just trying to wrap my mind around the prospect of finally getting a FF7 HD remake!!

I need a moment...........

sadly, this will probably just turn out to be a rumor........:(

Both, Dissidia and Crisis Core need an HD console port. I hope that'll happen when the FFX/X-II release is a success.

Then I think we'd be looking at an M game. Then again I don't know the technicalities of the rating system, maybe blood is fine so long as during the actual game events violence isn't exhibited. I also really felt the more gory elements added gravity to it. The Shinra lab, the Zolom and Sephiroth's general homicidal-ness was part of why it felt so epic.

Crisis Core would be a good launch point yeah, it had enough of a realistic feel to be enough of a departure from the original.

Sort of cell-shaded, like the DBZ Budokai games? That's one of the only examples I can think of that kind of develops the character models from FFVII. Still very animated, but with better proportions.

I think I'll hunt down whoever put the story out if this is a hoax.

I never got into Dissidia for some reason...I have it but only played about an hour and never really touched it after that. I'm thinking I should probably give it another go.

I don't think it would need to be cel-shaded. I personally just find all the peripheral stuff surrounding Final Fantasy VII to be completely abhorrent.

When I think of Final Fantasy VII, this style is what I picture:

Whereas, I think most other fans of the game picture this instead:

or even this...

Ick.

Now, I'm not suggesting that they should go with that original low-poly style, but I would roll my eyes and totally ignore the game if they went with either that semi-realistic or 2edgy4u look.

I think, ideally, they should just try to take the original art and translate it into 3D:

Having said that, I highly doubt a remake is going to happen. Not in the foreseeable future anyway. And people, Final Fantasy VII fans in particular, should be thankful for that. No remake would ever be able to recapture whatever magic people saw in that original game. In fact, it would most likely be a disappointment and cause a lot of ******** among fans of the series. The whole concept of a Final Fantasy VII remake just seems like a totally fruitless exercise to me and I'll never understand why people continue clamoring for it.

What a frustrating registration process. This reminds me of the god awful MGO. Why cant SE simply use your PSN ID without going through that extra unnecessary registration process with them?

Yeah, I dunno, it's a tough question. I agree that using the KH inspired design may not be the best way to go, and that the FFVII artwork from the guidebooks and concept art would be good.

I'm caught between wanting a remake and leaving my nostalgia alone. There's a possibility that whatever changes they make alter the tone and feeling of the game completely, and might garner a lot of criticism.

Perhaps the look of the game is he exact reason it developed the following it has. I'm torn on the subject, but a part of me wants that childhood nostalgia to see a second coming...I want to see Sephiroth slaying **** in HD.

are you talking about the FF 14 Beta Square-Enix registration??

Dissidia and Crisis Core remakes would probably make more sense to do 1st before a VII remake. at least they would seem far easier to do.

Yeah, a lot of the groundwork has been laid already. Crisis Core was brilliant, an HD remake would go down well I think. A full-screen HD Dissidia also has a huge amount of potential, they'll have a full controller to design around and could probably update the combat a lot.

I know I'm probably speaking only for myself when I say this, but I'd be happy with just the addition of slightly updated graphics and voice acting to remakes of any of the older FF's. Even just VAing would be fine. FFIV-FFIX had some of the most touching stories, proper VAing would complement those games so much.

I think all the complexities and questions a remake raises will ultimately stop them from attempting something that may bomb badly.

I think both games need to be available outside of the PSP/VITA. Are they on the Playstation Network?

Crisis Core isn't on PSN. I think the reason was that they didn't want to keep paying the licensing fees for the song used in the game.

also, a PS4 Dissidia/FF fighting game could potentially turn into a PS exclusive fighting game franchise.

if MS has Killer Instinct, Sony can answer that by making Dissidia a Sony exclusive.

well that sucks.

can you even play Crisis Core and Dissidia on Vita?

Dissidia is on PSN, and downloadable for the Vita. And I think people managed to hack and make Crisis Core playable on the Vita as well.

yeah. I ran into issues, too.

I registered for a new Square-Enix account on my PS4 during the FF 14 Beta setup.

then, when I went to login with that info on the Square-Enix site, it asked me to input my info again, including a nickname. when I went to use the same name I used for my Square-Enix ID, it said that nickname was already taken.

I was like........
