The Offical Final Fantasy Game Thread

Yeah, there's a fair number of people who like to play every game in a series, even if one or 2 are not as good as the rest. If you start including other stuff that isn't really the same the will to complete them all is not what it was. If you take out XI & XIV, I'm sure I would have finished IX & XII & all the XIIIs by now.

Man, doing Quests in FFXIV is really pissing me off. You have no way pointers unless you are in the the immediate area. So if you haven't memorized your map, have fun trying to find where you have to go.

Alright, I don't think I'll play FFXIV when it launches. A good thing is the combat. I'm only level 6 and it's surprisingly fun and really great to play with a joypad. But I'm so utterly frustrated, I'm close to ****ing break my joypad, because I'm basically running in circles, just to find the goddamn Inn, in order to get some rest EXP when I log off. GOD! Just writing about it makes me want to break my keyboard in half. I have a damn Map. Why is it that I can't highlight places with my cursor, so I know what that goddamn building is. Is it an Inn? An armory? One of the many Guilds? No, the only **** I can highlight are quest givers.

Haha, that sounds like enough for me to quit if I was trying it out.

Wait a sec, the game might have just gotten less frustrating. I only used it as a navigational Map in my upper left corner. But when you Zoom in, location descriptions actually pop up.

If The Final Fantasy X Remake Does Well, FFXII Could Be Next

Right now, you can play any mainline Final Fantasy game on a modern system—PS3, Vita, iOS, etc.—except for two: Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XII. Both PlayStation 2 entries have never made it to other platforms, and anyone who's tried to play PS2 games on a high-definition television might understand why people are begging for remakes.

Later this year, two will narrow down to one: Square Enix is giving FFX a new coat of paint on PS3 and Vita. That leaves Final Fantasy XII as the odd moogle out—the only game you can't play today without digging out an old console. But! Square Enix is cognizant of that, and if the FFX remakes live up to expectations, FFXII could come next.

"If they do well, I think this will pave the way for more of the previous games to remade in an HD sort of quality," Final Fantasy leading man Yoshinori Kitase told the folks at RPGSite.

"I mean, if we had to single out one of the vast number of Final Fantasy titles which we could make in HD, it would have to be Final Fantasy XII," he said. "I was not involved in the project, though, so we can't really comment on that."

Cool. And then maybe a 3D remake of Final Fantasy VI? Please?

You dont know how happy this just made me feel. I eagerly await the day SE announces FF XII HD coming to PS4

I really want this too.

God, I'm kinda pissed off right now. I never really followed the making of FFXII, but on Kotaku I'm reading that Basch was supposed to be the main character. But when directors changed, it was decided that Vaan would be the main character. To attract a younger and larger target audience. F**k you new director.

I want to make a list of terrible gaming decisions. Replacing Basch with Vaan, and Solid Snake with Raiden would be at the top right now.

Ashe ended up being the one that was far more interesting as far as the plot goes revolving around her, Basch got nerfed and Vaan was along for the ride with Penelo.

The problem with Vaan is that his personality isn't as strong as it needed to have been with the supporting cast they surrounded him with. He's overshadowed by Basch, Balthier, and Ashe, which makes his part in the story somewhat obsolete.

Nevah! :cmad: Even though I enjoy MGR... But it pissed me off in MGS2. And adding Rose as an annoying girlfriend that wouldn't shut up, didn't help.

Also Kojima realized his own mistake. Which is why he tries to make Raiden more hardcore with each new game.

If the hd remake of 12 happens I hope it releases on the Ps3 as well.

Vaan was only the person you moved around outside of combat. He was never really the main character. Ashe arguably was and that becomes apparent once she joins the party. Vaan kinda fades into the background and the plot more or less revolves around Ashe and Basch.

BTW, I havent played many, but Vaan is by far the most annoying character in any of the FF games, Ive touched (X, X-2, XII, XIII). Words cant describe how much I hated him in that game. His design wasnt even original as he looked like a cheap knock off of Tidus

Lightning Returns Producer Compares the Game to Dark Souls

"If I were to describe the gameplay," said Yoshinori Kitase, producer of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII said, "I'd say that there are some elements [in Lightning Returns] with the severity of [a game like] Dark Souls." Oh, crap…

Considering I was never able to clear Dark Souls, that's not very reassuring.

We've already heard a lot is different in the game system of Lightning Returns compared with the previous two chapters in the FFXIII trilogy. The game is more open-world, the combat is solo with a stagger mechanic, and there's an in-game thirteen day time limit. But time, as it turns out, isn't the only limiting factor.

In an interview with Weekly Famitsu, Kitase and director Motomu Toriyama said that there are a limited number of slots for items you can carry in the game which adds an element of inventory management. Also, combat does not yield experience points or money, so while you can go to inns to heal up, you might not want to resort to that option unless you really need it. Said Toriyama, "Thinking economically is very important in this game!"

So, not only will the world end in a limited time – during which you have to run around and fight alone against monsters and former allies – but you also have to watch your purse strings and how much you can carry? Is this Final Fantasy or Resident Evil?

Oh, and that time limit of thirteen days? You actually start out with only seven, but can extend it up to thirteen days by completing missions.

Currently, the game has been completed to the point where it is possible to play from beginning to end and the developers are tweaking the game balance. Hopefully they'll make the game as fun as it sounds difficult, if not easier (or at least add a difficulty setting).

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Japan on November 21st and in North America on February 11th, 2014.

I still have a bit of faith in Final Fantasy XV, because it's from the guys who did Kingdom Hearts. But after that, I'm even more afraid of the future of Final Fantasy, than I already am.

I want to see SE farm out FF to a western developer. I'd be interesting in seeing how a new team would handle a spinoff bc I have little faith in their Japanese team. Could you imagine Bioware doing a game based on Balthier's adventures as a sky pirate from FF XII. As a spinoff it wouldn't hurt to think outside the box and go in a completely different direction

It definitely wouldn't hurt to have a fresh set of eyes try something new with the Final Fantasy franchise. They couldn't possibly do any more damage than SE already did.
