I think there is a good chance of Lang being a film geek and dropping some movie references.

I think they will probably skip Pym being bipolar. I think Disney's public relations and legal department would be weary about portraying a bipolar character in a negative light because there would be a media storm.

I also think they will ignore it because it might not serve or suit the story they want to tell.

true. but no one's saying that they'd portray it in a negative light. there's actually a good opportunity for positive press, if they treat it in a positive light. you have a likable mad scientist with alternating hypomanic and depressive shifts in mood. the former could be used to make him more engaging to the audience. the latter could be used to gain sympathy from the audience (not to mention provide an explanation for why he's not currently an active hero).

I don't think they would intentionally portray the illness in a negative light but knowing how the media and the public outrage machine is these days I think they would feel its better to steer clear from the subject.

I love Marvel Studios movies but they are basically popcorn movies and I don't say that as a intending insult. These aren't super heavy dark movies generally. These are movies that Marvel/Disney make action figures, lunch boxes and Halloween costumes for.

I can perfectly understand why they dropped the suicide scene from The Incredible Hulk, not included the Alcoholism in the Iron Man films and why they might want avoid mental illness in a Ant-Man film.

Let's not start the Marvel hate train just yet. This is still a "rumor" from unverified "sources".

Paul Rudd is suddenly the only male lead that Rashida Jones could be compatible with? Wha--?

But, yeah, The Daily Superhero? Might as well be from some nerdy kid who lives down the street from you.

no, just the only Ant-Man i could see her being compatible with. the rumor of her being Janet sprung up in conjunction with the rumor of Rudd being Pym; because of their history of on screen chemistry.

what hate train are you referring to? i said that i wish that they had money to blow.

The hate train that loves spinning rumors like this into "Marvel is so cheap and lowballs everyone and probably beats the hired help too"-type nonsense.

For the sake of argument, let's say that source is telling the truth. How is this any different than Marvel negotiating with ATJ over his Godzilla press tour so that he can start filming AoU? It doesn't say anywhere in that article that the dispute is over money.

They're the ones that broke the Rashida Jones news in the first place.

I imagine Edgar and Joe are probably doing this right now

Is it difficult when you develop a project like that and then the universe goes off in a new direction? If you wanted to do Runaways now would you have to completely rework that script to fit in with what’s going on in the movies now?

Feige: No, and Ant-Man’s the best example of that, because Ant-Man… you know Edgar [Wright] had the first pitch and the first drafts for that movie long before the MCU even existed. While there is some rewriting that is necessary to bring it into and acknowledge the universe that he inhabits, it’s the exact same story that he initially pitched.
So we can put to rest the idea that Wright changed any part of his story significantly and it is Lang and Pym in the film.

I am curious to see how the film connects to the rest of the MCU. Naturally, AIM as the baddies would connect but if Wright doesn't go that route, it will be interesting.

After all these years, it's nice to have some confirmation that the story's staying the same.

Kevin Feige on the Nerdist podcast

Edgar Wright already has certain ideas in place for the Ant-Man characters, going back to comic-con 2006 which we wanted to maintain.

I hope at the very least that they took out the 1960's stuff

Is there any aspect of Irredeemable Ant-Man that you’re interested to include, or is it just focused on Hank Pym and the original charater?
Irredeemable… is that the most recent one?

That’s the one that Robert Kirkman did where he gets Ant-Man powers and he’s really irresponsible with them.
No. What’s the name of that Ant-Man?

I think it's a given that Lang will be in the film. Wright called it a heist film and the Lang story certainly fits. Interestingly enough, a casting call went out a couple of weeks ago for a young girl that could fit Lang's daughter.

And in interview, Feige just said its broadly the same as the original pitch. So, however it exactly goes, Lang is going to be the hero of the film.
