I have an idea for a supporting character, one who has already been introduced in the MCU:

It would give him something to do in between Avengers flicks.

Of course, he's already my choice to make a potential Black Panther movie more accessible to the mainstream audience.

/\ It definitely would be good for Hawkeye to have more spotlight.

They were looking at Rashida Jones, who is half black (due to her famous father), but she can easily pass for white in the movies.

I wouldn't go that far. She looks mixed. When I didn't know who she was back in the day during The Office, I thought she was a Latina. She does PLAYS characters in whom their race doesn't matter.

i thought she was just from the jersey shore. :shrugs:

I think she could pull off Wasp. Personally I liked her in lost and the hobbit. Doesn't hurt that she's easy on the eyes.

Also not sure why Marvel would be looking for a women of color for Wasp. She has always been white as far as I know.

Anyway yeah I'm on board with this. I trust Wright knows what he's doing and until proven otherwise I'm betting on him to deliver!

i don't know that they were. but i thought that Rashida Jones was a very good candidate. she's actually very similar-looking to Evangeline. i wonder if maybe she was just too busy and Lilly was 4th on the list (after Jessica Chastain, Bryce Dallas-Howard, and Rashida Jones). i'm softening my stance on it. Lilly could be a good cast for Jan. she was extremely popular as a potential Wasp when 'Lost' was actually on the air. i just got my hopes up for Jones.

[on adding feminine energy to characters in 'The Hobbit' film series] To his defence, Tolkien was writing in 1937. The world is a different place today. I kept repeatedly telling people that in this day and age, to put nine hours of cinema entertainment in theatres for young girls to go and watch, and not have one female character - it's subliminally telling them that 'You don't matter, you're not important and you're not pivotal to the story'. I think that they were very brave and very right in saying 'We won't do that to the young female audience that will come and watch our films'. And even for women my own age, I think it's time that we stop making stories that are only about men. I love that they make Tauriel a hero.

hopefully, this means that she'll be up for the Wasp role; as well.

but will he be played by a woman of color?

I suspect that they'll simply make Janet Hank Pym's daughter in the MCU.
1. It gets around the age issue.
2. It still gives Janet a close connection to Hank.
3. It still gives Hank a valid motivation to give her powers.

Ugh.... If that's meant to be a dig at my posts :o

I've been one of the most positive, supportive Marvel fans in this board, but I'll call out an issue with this studio (and indeed the rest of Hollywood) when I see it. And Marvel and WB/DC have a big diversity problem with their movies. It might not matter to some on here, but it matters to a lot of other people who are fans of the franchises.

I don't think it's a lot to ask for these studios to be more inclusive and representational in their casting. That's all.

yeah, i've been expecting it. most of the candidates for Jan have had cleft chins (and freckles for some strange reason); like Michael Douglas.

Has it been confirmed that this Lily role is for Wasp or are we assuming that Janet is Scotts love interest.

Variety and THR are reporting that insiders say she *is* playing Hank's daughter and Lang's love interest, reinforcing the Janet Van Pym rumor a lot of us already speculated about. They also said that Lilly's role is "not intended to be a one-off," meaning she's getting the usual multi-pic deal, making Janet/Wasp all the more likely. Marvel says "no comment" in response to Variety, which is actually a good sign that this is a lot more than wild rumors.

works for me. visually, she's a literal translation of the comic book character to screen. she's even short statured like Jan. i'm bummed that it's not Rashida Jones. but they still get points for accuracy. i'm still skeptical that they can form a romantic bond; given the storyline. so Scott gets out of jail, steals Pym's costume, and *bam* Pym's rich daughter fancies him?

LOVE.

Did not expect this, in fact Eva never even crossed my mind but I am totally down with it.

Heard a lot about her, but never seen anything. Sounds good doe.

I'd be very surprised if she's not Janet, based on the description.

i think it was screenrant that speculated that Janet's powers in this movie would be genetically inherited; as opposed to having to breathe in a gas or take a pill. that could be really cool. but i still want to see her in that mad scientist-y helmet getting her powers jumpstarted.

on another note, (if this is real) i like how Wright is creating a parallel between Pym's relationship with Janet and Scott's relationship with Cassie.

I was just thinking about this,and I agree.

Love E. Lilly however I am a little sad cause she was my fave for catwoman in the batman reboot. :(

Some comments on Screenrant:

Since this is going to be a two-generation Ant-Man story, let Janet Pym the daughter exist, but let her mother be the original Janet Van Dyne, now divorced from Hank Pym but not dead.

Did anyone actually READ the article? It never named her as “Janet” or “Wasp”, and she can easily play Van Dyne in the 60s. I’m excited, Lilly’s awesome. I can’t wait to see who’s cast as the younger Pym!

Awesome choice. She's definitely got the look down.

Some comments on Screenrant:

i'll never get that minute of my life back. they said that this wasn't a one-off. so I doubt that she'll be playing in flashbacks. and I'm not sure what "original Janet Van Dyne" means. but I'm cool with them having a proto-Wasp or have Maria (Pym's first wife) being a costumed hero in the past.

Nope, since THR/Variety she is up for the lead actress role and Scott Lang's love interest/Pym's daughter. So she will definitely be a modern day character
