The point is making a personal connection between the characters since they are no longer a similar age and Douglas is playing an older Hank Pym.

Meaning that an old guy and a young guy could never be friends under normal circumstances....? Okay.

The connections seem pretty self-evident to me: Lang steals Pym's suit and learns to use it; Pym is impressed that somebody else can use it as well as he can, and chooses to take Lang under his wing; Lang starts falling for Pym's beautiful daughter, which starts creating personal friction between the three of them.

You are already making a personal connection because you are saying he's "in love" with Pym's daughter.

but where does that leave Janet? Scott already has family; Cassie. if you link him to Douglas' Pym, that makes the inclusion of Janet redundant. we can safely assume that Evangeline Lilly isn't playing Cassie. so why bother? even in the books, the connection between Hank and Scott is the Ant-Man identity. Pym is his sponsor, for lack of a better word.

I hear there is a scene in the film where hank has a the first tales to astonish comic, the 2nd avengers comic, the first antman comic and first wasp comic in his bathroom and takes his pants off and takes a big **** on them

did hank crap on himself? if these comics are so important, why are they in his bathroom?

the fun will be in seeing how the characters meet/which adaptation Wright is using. i'm hoping that he makes it more of a proactive search for a successor; Pym not just being caught unaware when someone goes after his suit. if i were to guess, i'd say that they are tweaking the cartoon version. Hank would be a semi-retired costumed spy/crime fighter employed as a university professor (or having a lab on a college campus). Scott as a janitor would discover the ant-man costume while trying to get at something valuable in Pym's office/lab. a campus seems like a convenient location to introduce all three characters; having Janet visit him there instead of some high security lab somewhere. but then there's also the Atlanta suburb location to consider. that might point to them using Pym's house as the target.

Exciting times up ahead for this movie in regards to casting. Outside of Evangeline Lilly and Michael Pena, it's going to be interesting to see who else is being considered and which characters are being considered.

Cassie Lang, Bill Foster, Erica Sondheim, Younger Pym etc.

Also interested in seeing how this film connects to the MCU.

one site (same one that reported Pena) claims that Clifton Collins jr is also in the movie; alongside Pena (maybe as his right hand man or something). knowing nothing about it, it makes me think that the "villains" are going to be similar to those in the first Expendables movie. i wonder how much of this movie will take place outside of the U.S. might explain why Pym has been off of S.H.I.E.L.D's radar.

had you guys heard the rumor about Natalie Martinez showing up in Age of Ultron? someone was speculating, because the actress is of cuban descent (and was in End of Watch with Michael Pena), that the rumor mill got it wrong. and that Martinez might be showing up in Ant-Man; in some unidentified role. movie-ized 'Maria Trovayna?' 'Erica Sondheim?' 'random chick?' thoughts?

I heard the rumour. She could be a random Cuban chick or lackey since the main villain is meant to be some Fidel Castro type.

She's hot. I remember her from the last season of CSI:NY.

it's hard to imagine Ant-Man going up against a political figure. it's not like he could really depose someone like Castro; without the vacuum of power instantly filling up.

Agreed. I don't it will be Pym going against Castillo's (Michael Pena character) entire regime, but rather a specific special-ops mission or a rescue attempt or something of that nature. Still, I think it will be important enough for Castillo to harbor a grudge against Pym for many years (decades), since I think it was reported that his role continues in the movie into the present day.

Just random speculation from here out...

Maybe Castillo, for some reason, holds Maria Pym as a political prisoner, and Pym suits up to rescue her? I don't think Maria is Cuban in the comics... Hungarian, was it? But that would be a minor change. I can see Natalie Martinez playing Maria, if that were the case.

Also, maybe said rescue mission doesn't go too well and ends up with Maria Pym losing her life, causing Pym to fall apart, and completely reject "superheroing", SHIELD (or whatever organization he's working for), etc. This could also leave him somewhat distant as a single, grieving father, thus leading to an estranged relationship with his daughter, Janet.

my thoughts (almost exactly). I think Maria is going to be from whatever communist country Castillo resides over. and I think that Pym's going to aid Lang because of guilt over Maria's death; making it right by helping Scott save his loved one. I'm not sure how Castillo plays into the latter, though. maybe he's the man behind the scenes of an organ harvesting enterprise that Scott gets caught up in (through Erica Sondheim, like in the books).

As expected Cinematographer Bill Pope who worked with Edgar on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and The World's End is Ant-Man's Cinematographer.

Bill Pope is mostly known as the Cinematographer for the Matrix films and multiple Sam Raimi films including his Spider-Man sequels.

His full filmography history

1989 - Pet Sematary
1990 - Darkman
1991 - Closet Land
1992 - Army of Darkness
1993 - Fire in the Sky
1994 - Blank Check
1995 - Clueless
1996 - Bound
1997 - Gridlock'd
1998 - Zero Effect
1999 - Freaks & Geeks
1999 - The Matrix
2000 - Bedazzled
2003 - The Matrix Reloaded
2003 - The Matrix Revolutions
2004 - Spider-Man 2
2004 - Team America: World Police
2006 - Fur
2007 - Spider-Man 3
2008 - The Spirit
2010 - Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
2012 - Men in Black 3
2013 - The World's End

A good pick I think. Pope is very experienced.

It would be pretty funny if we see sixties Ant-Man Pym bump into a security guard who is younger version of this guy which would give this Avengers scene a whole different context :woot:

I see he also did Freaks and Geeks, giving him a Judd Apatow connection like Paul Rudd.

it took me forever to remember that Rudd was in clueless.

good idea with the security guard.
