White Power Dave might just be a original character and not Whirlwind.

he might be. Evangeline Lilly might be playing someone other than Janet. but my money's on Evangeline playing Janet and Gerald playing Dave Cannon. :yay:

If white power Dave is Whirlwind then his theme song must be 'I got the power' :)

It wouldn't surprise me if Michael Pena, Patrick Wilson, Matt Gerald, and Corey Stoll all ended up being OCs.

wouldn't surprise me either. but i think it'd be ridiculously easy to give these somewhat original characters the names and/or backgrounds of existing ant-man related characters.

Michael Pena - i fully expect to be the guy who kidnaps/carries out the execution of Pym's wife, Maria. Wright has gone through the trouble of introducing a communist character. why not give Pym a real reason to hate the guy? Pena could actually pass for the character in the comic book appearance.

Patrick Wilson is still my front-runner for the younger version of Pym. i thought he might be an altered version of Cross. but then Corey Stoll was hired.

Stoll - it'd be nothing to name his character Elias (Elihas?) Starr. it wouldn't really get in the way of anything. and it'd be a nod to the books. but that's if he's a villain. to me, he looks a lot like Cassie's stepfather. there's still a huge hole in the casting here. we have no idea who is playing is Cassie. we can assume that she appears. but who will she be living with?

Every Marvel film so far has featured at least one villain from the comics.

Even if the film counter-part is completely different from the comic version you can still use a characters name.

I think they're going to more or less create new characters but use the names of lesser known characters.

Various rather minor comic characters like Aldrich Killian, Jack Rollins, ect have ended up being used in the movies.

Batroc The Leaper even got used as a opening villain in the new Cap film.

If your using a villainous businessman, scientist, thug ect then you have plenty of comic villains you can cherry pick from.

Pym has been around for over 50 years and Lang has been around for over 40 years so it shouldn't be difficult to pick at least one villain from the comics they have interacted with.

they'd probably use a name actor if he were expected to appear elsewhere; like the Peggy Carter tv series. it's not like Patrick Wilson is busy with anything, at the moment.

Not neccessarily. I don't see young Pym really factoring that much into this aside from Wright wanting to adapt elements of "The Man in the Ant Hill" and perhaps his history with this Castillo character. Wilson just seems like too big of a name for a role that probably wont be that large, and I suspect a little too old for it unless they moved the 60's stuff up to say the 80's.

I think they'll use William Cross aka Crossfire instead of his cousin Darren. remember that Wright cited the cartoon as part of his "homework." Darren only appeared in the comic. William Cross might be a little more action-friendly since he's a rogue CIA Agent instead a mutated businessman. I could see Stoll being Crossfire and in league with Michael Pena's corrupt political leader. Gerald is extra muscle. that's just my personal guess though.

I could see them combining the two into one character, which Marvel has proven not to be averse to (MCU Whiplash and Alexander Pierce).

Wilson appeared in Prometheus as Shaw's dad for about 1 minute so he isn't against roles with limited screen time but he is too old to play Hank Pym in the 1960's.

I think Wilson is playing a character from the comics.

i'll believe it when i see it. those scenes might be in black and white; for all we know. makeup or CGI (to soften someone's looks) isn't as noticeable in black and white. people are already accepting that they'll use it to make Douglas look younger. why not do it with Wilson? he could easily appear in other marvel properties.

fair enough. but no amount of CGI is going to make Douglas look like a 20 year old (or whatever age we're aiming at). he's always been a kind of mature looking guy.

I think they could get him looking like this with the help of CGI.

Of course they could always get christian bale to play him

Lol jk. But seriously though. If Marvel can make Hayley Atwell look 90, they could make Michael Douglas look 30.

He also doesn't look anything like Patrick Wilson... Its not going to happen.

fair enough. but the hero to villain ratio is off. Pym-Janet(speculatively)-Lang vs Pena (speculatively)-Matt Gerald-Corey Stoll (speculatively)-and Patrick Wilson? one of these folks is probably playing a side character; neither hero nor villain.

Patrick Wilson might be the good guy that turns out to be a villain guy and Stoll might be just a straight up good guy. Matt Gerald is definitely a villain of some sorts, and then there are reports about Pena playing a villain, so thats probably true as well.

Wasn't there a Detective hired by Pym to find out who was stealing his suit? If so, might Wilson or Stoll be that guy?

in the original story? no. Pym followed Lang to see what he was going to do with the suit. in the cartoon he hired Luke Cage and Iron Fist as muscle, for some reason. and he had a pym particle detector.

So what route is Wright going to likely go?

the issue as i see it: i can look at Matt Gerald's resume and speculate that he won't be the primary villain. he looks like a Savin or Rumlow-level bad guy. the only rumor about Pena is that he's playing a castro-style political figure. that says top tier villain to me.

so then we have Wilson and Stoll. they are on similar levels acting wise. i can't look at either one of them and write them off as a grunt. either one could play Darren Cross. either one could play Crossfire. or a villain on that level; top-tier or a right hand man type. the moment's Stoll became part of the movie, i had a hard time seeing Patrick Wilson as the villain of the piece. he's competing with Stoll and Pena.

...
Stoll is more versatile in that i could see him playing anything from a prison warden, to a cop, to a government agent, to Cassie's stepfather, or some kind of crime figure.

With Hank Pym being old and all, would people be fine with him having a son called Henry? If they don't make him younger enough, Henry could assume the Giant-Man or Yellowjacket persona. I wouldn't mind seeing Henry and Jan as siblings, and to be honest, I don't really wanna see her as Lang's romantic interest. I think she should be her own thing, without any romance or anything like that. That way you get the first superhero family in the MCU, and everyone is happy.

no clue. the plot is probably going to be something unguessable. my hunch? Pym arranges for Scott to steal the Ant-Man costume or, at least, takes advantage of Scott stealing it. i don't think there's ever going to be a time where he loses track of the equipment. i think that's what Wright is referring to when he mentions Hank and Scott teaming up in a machiavellian way. i think Pym's actively looking for a successor or realizes he wants one when fate lands Scott Lang in his lab.

i don't see it happening. i expect Evangeline Lilly to be playing his daughter. but i think it'd get messy if they also involved a son. why wouldn't "Henry jr" take over his father's costumed profession? they've already involved Scott Lang. i think the primaries will be he, Pym, and Pym's daughter. i, personally, don't want a romance between Scott and Jan. but that's what it was advertised as. and it's a family affair even without a Hank Pym jr.

Hank Pym Jr. is even more confusing then if they went with "a dark skinned black actress to play Janet" route.
