Ant-Man The Official Ant-Man News and Speculation Thread - Part 7

I had this thought that maybe somewhere in the story Scott discovers the tiny Wasp wings or something when hes ant size. Like Hank hid them away after Janet died with the Ant suit in some super mini case.

I'm glad there isn't romance in the film between Hope and Scott. Sometimes it feels like they force a romantic relationship into movie because they feel there need to rather than because it organically serves the story.

I guess neck tattoo guy is
either Hydra or Ten Rings.
I can't think of a symbol more recognizable to Marvel audiences than one of those two.

That would come across as far too tongue-in-cheek. Janet's death is likely down to the mission going wrong, and it's what causes Hank to separate from SHIELD and spiral down a darker path - so I'm expecting it'll be something tragic and heart-breaking, rather than silly.

They have super-strength at smaller size, anyway. You wouldn't be able to squish them.

I think getting squished or squashed could still be dramatic... and play out just like you said though. and likely to a mission going wrong.

they have super-strength, but do they have durability?

You're sick and may need professional help. :oldrazz:

I doubt she will be squashed. I don't think Ant-Man or Wasp can be squashed. They can't be in the comics.

Ant-Man & Wasp are super-strong when they are small and could simply regrow to normal size faster than it takes for someone to step on them.

So Feige dropped a massive hint that

Hope will be the MCU Wasp.

Janet getting fridged to further Hank's man-pain=Lots of fans angry.

Janet fridged to further Hank's man-pain, and her death is played for ANY kind of comedy=Fans want to tar and feather Wright, Reed, and Feige.

That is not how I understand the term 'fridging'. Unless 'any time a woman in fiction dies and someone somewhere feels bad about it' counts as fridging now? That seems to lose the point of having a specific term in the first place.

Thats the thing, they are small but still durable. Just stepping on them is not going to waste them (especially since they are apparantly super-strong when shrunk), unless its the Hulk and the Hulk would waste them stepping on them despite what size they are.

Was at a wedding over the weekend and my 6 year old cousin was like, "Are you gonna take me to see Ant-Man?"

That is the litmus test right there, when the kids know who he is.

The loss of Janet seems to effect Hope greatly as well

I do think kids are going to go crazy for this, just for the Thomas The Tank scene alone, the concept alone will just appeal to them so much.

So Gregg Turkington is
Scott Lang's boss at Baskin Robbins

wait isn't Hank/Janet against [BLACKOUT]HYDRA, also wasn't there a rumor that Hank/Janet had a mission in Africa? and we all know who HYDRA sends out to take out there foes. If Hope is in CW she may appear for reason, HYDRA killed Howard/Maria they may have killed Janet too. [/BLACKOUT]

I don't know about Africa but it has long been rumoured there is a flashback to a mission in South America and in the trailers/tv spot we see a unseen figure (Ant-man or Wasp) beating militia guards at a compound.

Pym says he took a detour through Russia in his mission debrief with Shield back in 1989. The in continuity comic had him on a mission in East Berlin in 1987.

Looks like one rumour has been confirmed
A Ten Rings agent will cameo as a buyer in the unveiling of the Yellowjacket suit at Pym Technologies

Hope can kick ass as we've seen in the trailers, so that rumor makes sense.

I wonder if Hope patterned her look after Janet as a way to always remind Hank of what he did.

What are the chance of this movie being another Iron Man or TWS? Is anyone optimistic about that?

I just feel that the Scott lang-daughter relationship is very interesting, not done before by MCU. ( unless we included Hawkeye's arc in AOU )

I was thinking the stuff from trailers reminded me of Iron Man. A pretty personal movie.

well... ultimate wasp got eaten by blob... so ... you never know unfortunately :/

i actually wouldn't mind if jan got stepped on... we shouldn't confuse our love of Janet Van Dyne of the films with her of the comics.. because it sounds like hope is very much "Janet" in personality... just missing the name.

All kinds of horrible stuff happened in the Ultimate comics which I doubt we will see in the movies.

Cannibal Hulk, xenophobic Cap, incestuous Maximoff twins, suicidal Hawkeye and murderous traitor Black Widow aren't exactly family movie material :cwink:.

Hope isn't Janet in personality yet. Lilly said Hope is a ambiguous scowling b**** which isn't Janet. If Hope becomes Wasp in a future movie then perhaps she might adopt a more Janet like personality.

The getting stepped on thing would fit the tone of a Mark Miller/Matthew Vaughn movie more than Marvel studios. That kind of black humour just doesn't seem to fit the vibe of this film at all.

Also the tragic accident as Douglas described Janet's fate doesn't sound like it will be played for laughs. The repercussions of her demise have a lasting dramatic effect on Hank and Hope that would be undermined if it was played for a laugh.

no we wont see cannibalism.. but im just making a point.. that they're not invulnerable.

and the way i read Lily's comments about Hope's personality.. it's very much a guard she has up... something i totally see jan doing when she's been hurt pretty bad or had a major loss...

but yes, hopefully she will be more optimistic and care free when she becomes a superhero

Its strange but to me Ant-Man almost seems like it shouldve/couldve been the first MCU film.

That was likely the original plan, but with Wright delaying the project, that quickly went out the door. By 2006, it was clear that Iron Man was going to be the first MCU project and Ant-Man was on the back burner.

I'd say it all worked out pretty well for everyone involved. :cwink:
