The Official "Ask A Brotha" Thread - Part 2

I think some artists struggle to draw non-white characters.

That's why in anime, every character, regardless of age, race or gender, has the facial structure of either Sarah Hyland or Ron Perlman.

And sometimes a hybrid.

1) You used Drake as a model for an African phenotype. Drake is half White. I wouldn't use Keanu Reeves as a model for a Hawaiin-born Chinese person, even though his father is of that lineage.

2) Arabs =/= African. Arabs are not native to North Africa anymore than Whites are native to North America. Just as Whites in Canada and America are descendants of colonizers, so are Arabs in North Africa. To that end, making light skinned "Africans" is erroneous. Africans, "Negroids", are dark. We aren't all the same shade of dark, but we certainly aren't some beige/tan hue that people ascribe to supposed Africans.

And before you think that I am pulling an argument from the ether, I am of the Luo tribe through my father's side of the family (my mother is Black American), and we have Luhaya members in our family as well. I still have family in Eldoret and Nairobi. I share my wisdom with you so that you may better understand the ideas I have put forth.

To add to that, Egyptians are not black. They are not white. They are Egyptian. Depending on whom you speak with, they might split hairs and say that they are a "white minority", or a "white ethnicity". I do think some view themselves as "Arab", but I think that number is diminishing.

I found an interesting article on it: http://observationdeck.io9.com/no-egyptians-arent-white-but-they-arent-black-eithe-1665322870

I don't have HBO, so it hasn't been on my radar. I will definitely have to check it out.

I'm not a huge Nirvana fan. I do have a bunch of songs on my iPod but it was very well done and kinda trippy in a sense.

Loved to perform and create. Hated the interviews. Couldn't handle criticism. It was a fascinating watch.

The only thing that bothered me is that they didn't include Dave Grohl in the documentary.

There was a documentary on the "Iron Sheik".
It was very good and had some great information on what Iran was like back in the late 60's. Very entertaining and informational.

Forget if I asked this in here already,

But how much do you charge for a cut. A couple years ago it was $12. Now I find it being like $20. I find that's too expensive just for a cesar with some light facial hair shape up.
IM wondering if that's just m area or has that pretty much become the standard

$12 for me. Extra for facial hair. But, I don't get it done, so I don't know the price.

I pay 20 which includes a nice tip.

I happily pay it because it's hard to find a barber I'm comfortable with.

I wouldn't want to short my barber anyway. That just gives him an excuse to rush and do a crappy job.

I cut my own hair and edge myself up. I've saved thousands of dollars. Now, nobody can cut my hair as well as I can.

I haven't watched this yet. But I have watched the Sinatra, Cobain and Scientology ones and they were excellent.

That Scientology documentary was terrific. It showed me so much more than I originally thought. It was eye-opening to say the least.

That's what Im talking about. I feel like that is way more reasonable

When I can grow a full beard I definetly want to do that. Im gonna have to do it by the time Im 50 anyway because that's when my dad lost a lot of his hair

Pam Grier.

Halle Berry's personal life is a trainwreck. Trouble seems to follow her.

If somebody is constantly in that kind of trouble consistently, there is something wrong with them.
