Ask Your Nerd Trivia Questions! - Part 1

Wow. I never knew he leaked that info.:wow:
If that article is legit, luckily it was to a local paper, and there was no internet, so the huge spoiler didn't circulate widely.
Cause yeah, otherwise the plot back-bone of ESB and ROTJ might have had to have been changed, and likely the prequels (maybe for the better:sus) and sequels, the whole franchise would all be different without the impact of Vader as Luke's father reveal.

Switching to "Obi-Wan killed your father" is an interesting dynamic, and maintains a conflict in Luke as to who to trust, but it leaves little if any genuine impetus for him to ever potentially follow(join) to Vader's side.

In Gremlins famous props from sci fi films of the past appear (and DISAPPEAR) behind Billy's dad when he is making a phone call home? Name two of the props and the films they are from.

I know one of them was the Time Machine.

Truly this thing we call The Hype is a Nerd Paradise. Yes to all the answers and Mondragon, thanks for adding that news clipping this was unknown to me. As for the other Classic sci fi piece of history in Gremlins... Robby The Robot from Forbidden Planet.

Question: Is Captain America aka Steve Rogers partly inspired by Buck Rogers? Both are soldiers out of time who awaken in the future (Buck from WW1, Steve from WW2). And, obviously, both are named Rogers (and Steve has Bucky as his sidekick).

Those are interesting parallels, there might be some minor influence in the names, but i'd say most if any parallels are merely coincidental.
Buck Rogers was originally "preserved" in a mine shaft by a gas, not sure when it was changed to "frozen" that may even be after Cap America. . And he woke up in a fantastic unimagined future, the core concept was about portraying the character in that never before seen, otherworldly future.

Cap America's origin was really about the super soldier serum making a hero, and firmly set in WWII fighting the Axis and a patriotic theme. Other than being fantastic heroes, there really isn't much in common in their original creation and concept.

And it wasn't until almost 25 years later, that they reinvented Cap. to actually be unfrozen in the "now" that may be where some influence was taken, yet even with the reinvention, it wasn't ever about portraying a character in a fantastic future, but having the archaic character exist here today.
You are right there might be some tangental parallels and influence the character out of time theme, but at their core they seem like really different concepts.

You mean the changing name of the Mall?
LOL! What should have been Twin Pines, becomes Lone Pine, on his return to the "future".

To add to what you said, Bucky Barnes was named after the creator's friend from school.
Nothing to do with Buck Rogers.

Ok. It was indeed common nerd knowledge.
I will pull the "I saw BTTF a long time ago and only noticed it after re-watch" card with a "I'm getting old" joker :)
Now, let me turn back my nerd card :(

Regardless of when you discovered it, the fact that you did, and were compelled to pass on this "information" to others of your kind, I believe makes you bonafide. ;)

In HIGHLANDER, the Kurgan was originally supposed to kill how many immortals on screen before scenes were deleted (and then lost forever due to a fire)?

Where was the opening speech Connery makes during the opening of HIGHLANDER recorded?

Frank Dux, controversial figure of martial arts circles, appears in what capacity in HIGHLANDER?

What well known pro-wrestler claimed he was asked to play the lead in HIGHLANDER but turned it down to concentrate on his wrestling career?

OK. Who is the only singer to have sung in 3 different Bond films & can you name the films??

Good question.

Their hand held and ship based weapons were referred to as "disruptors".

As of TNG it was revealed that Romulans use artificial mini black holes to power their ships.

On a webpage full of comic nerds surely somebody knows the answer :)

Anybody else have some trivia questions to ask?
