The Amazing Spider-Man The Official ASM THEATRICAL TRAILER Thread! - Part 1

I don't see why we keep bringing up Alberta Film Ratings. RealIronMan has already stated that, A. the trailer will be online before it is in theaters and B. online trailers do not need to be classified.

We'll get the trailer soon after The Dark Knight Rises' second trailer hits the web.

I'm not doubting that that's a possibility, but plenty of trailers get rated before being put online first, then shows up in theaters (ex. Men In Black III, Ghost Rider 2). The only film that I haven't seen this happen with was the trailer for Avengers.

This is what they want to do, I can almost guarantee it:

They're waiting for TDKR make their move. Operation Early Bird=TASM poster, TDKR poster=TASM website, TDKR trailer=TASM trailer. They likely want to release the trailer online at their discretion to respond to TDKR's trailer instead of risking the trailer being leaked online in some ****** bootleg form.

Consider this, TDKRs trailer was received by theaters early last week. A bootleg was up by Tuesday. That means that it was bootlegged 4 days before it was supposed to come out in theaters and nearly a week before it was (supposedly) supposed to be released online. That means that if the TASM trailer was ever meant to be released in theaters with Tintin, theaters could have received the TASM trailer as early as today. A bootleg could have gone up today and taken out any wind the online trailer could have had as a response to the TDKR trailer going online. I've seen the TDKR trailer 4 or 5 times now in bootleg form and it has decreased my excitement for the online trailer tenfold. Right now, TASM is winning the battle in terms of suspense and excitement by releasing the trailer online when they want to, rather than when some average Joe projectionist wants to.

Sony is playing it smart. Patience everyone.

True.

I've seen the TDKR trailer in bootleg form like 8 times already, and yeah, I'll probably watch it in HD once more but that's it.

But when the TASM trailer is going to go online I'll be all like;

:D

Exactly. The last thing Sony wants right now is a bootleg version of the trailer to come out and ruin the perception of it all. Especially if they're unveiling the Lizard. Last thing they'll want is a less than favorable response due to a lack of vide quality. They want us to see it in 1080p HD so we can form an opinion. Not an off screen mobile phone video. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the trailer was released online and then it was released in theaters at a later date.

Good points, but the thing that baffles me is that Sony would supposedly skip out on the chance to attach the trailer with two films that were both distributed by them.

While agree they're playing it smart I don't think they planned their marketing around another movie; that's never a good strategy. I know it may seem like this stuff is by the seat of their pants, but this stuff is planned months in advance. A trailer won't be released online until it can be attached to a movie in theaters and they have three choices this week. Yeah marketing is competitive but if you're waiting for your competition to move before you do, that's a losing method and not a single class I've had, job or internship in the field would ever say otherwise

I think NOT releasing a trailer online after like, 10 bootleg copies are already online kind of kills the hype for a movie... it's this whole pride thing that's costing movies/companies.

A good example is TDKR trailer. It's been out online for 2, 3 days now... but still, WB won't release it officially online until like, Monday. Do you really want people's first look at your movie to come from a ****** bootleg copy?

I can understand holding out on it for a day or so... but come on... >.>

But isn't wb also assuming a lot of people will see Sherlock Holmes?

Whether it's with TGWTDT or not, the trailer defenitely is coming soon.

Why does everyone keep thinking it might be with TGWTDT?

Talk about marketing your movie to the wrong audience. L0L

If it'll be with a Sony movie, it'll be with Tintin, otherwise it's going to be with something that's not a Sony movie.

Yep. But there's a lot of people who probably won't. Besides, they know that TDKR is going to do well, so why hold out on a trailer?

Wait, I just answered my own question, didn't I? >.>

Mission impossible is the better opportunity because you'll get the full audience. With dragon tattoo, u miss kids and with tintin u miss teens and a lot of adults. But I know which one is going to make more money and that's dragon tattoo.

Tintin audience: Kids, parents and possibly older siblings (who might happen to be comic book nerds!)

TGWTDT audience: Adults.

Which one has the wider audience?

Lol yeah u did. The problem though is a lot of us think about the Internet and fans like us who are on message boards so we think of marketing toward us; it's not always that way. Viral marketing is toward us but trailers and posters etc are for mainstream purposes. There is a good chance the majority of people seeing Sherlock Holmes aren't obsessing over the dark knight so they need to see the trailer more than guys like you and I. WE will watch it online but a kid will see it in a theater. A mom will see it in a theater. Fans who don't follow every facet of a movie will see it in a theater. You need to hit them first

Agreed.

Not in the US tho. Tintin isn't as big here as it is in the UK and other european countries. Plus let's not act like teenagers won't see dragon tattoo, and not just the legal 17 year olds. I snuck into rated R movies ALL THE TIME when I was a teenager

The fact of the mater is, they boldly chose to release this movie 2 weeks before what will likely be the highest grossing film in film history. If this were any other situation, I'd agree that it's a bad strategy to market your film based on the actions of another, but in this case, it's entirely necessary.

When TASM is released, people will have one thought in mind, "Do I want to spend money on this movie when The Dark Knight Rises is coming out in two weeks?" Sony needs to strategically market their film in order to give people the idea that it will be worth it. By releasing their materials right after The Dark Knight Rises releases theirs, it says, "Yes, this movie is coming out next summer, but don't forget about our film either, which will be excellent as well."

And it's not always a losing strategy, especially in this case. TASM is fighting an uphill battle, they need to market around TDKR to have a prayer at Box Office success.

Right. So they'll be marketing TASM at the kids who'll sneak into TGWTDT. :oldrazz:

You can quote me on it, there isn't a chance IN HELL that the trailer for TASM will be attached to TGWTDT. It's either going to be attached to:

- Tintin AND TGWTDT (which I strongly doubt)

- ONLY Tintin (I'm betting it'll be either this, or the next one I'm going to say)

- A non-Sony movie if they're planning on releasing it this month

I'm not saying it should just be with dragon tattoo I'm saying it should be both. And if not it should be with mission impossible because that has a bigger audience than both tintin and dragon tattoo

Agreed.

They can't afford to miss their audience by hoping that a few kids will be watching TGWTDT. The trailer either'll be with Tintin where it'll have a MUCH wider audience, or with a non-Sony movie.

What non-Sony family/action movies are coming out this month anyways?

Huh? Mission Impossible 4 is out. It had the TDKR trailer/prologue.

I see what you're saying but that's scared business to me and it's the only big movie 4th of july weekend, people WILL spend money on it. It's traditionally the biggest box office weekend of the year. Maybe I'm wrong and that's cool but I just don't see it that way but that's not what I've been taught either

Huh? Mission Impossible 4 is out. It had the TDKR trailer/prologue.

No the IMAX preview came out. The movie doesn't have it's wide release until Wednesday. They showed it on 200 IMAX screens this weekend and it'll be in all screens on the 21st. And the dark knight rises trailer was with Sherlock Holmes. In fact the prologue didn't even play in every IMAX showing of mission impossible. There is an IMAX theater 19 min from my house and the prologue wasn't playing there. Nolan wanted it shown on only specific IMAX screens

Ah, right. I still strongly doubt it'll be with that.

Why though? It's the widest audience movie this week I'm not saying it will b with that just wondering why it's such a doubt. The one big trailer I know will be with tintin is the hobbit
