To be fair, Sony DOES know how to make a badass trailer when it counts. I have faith that it will be sweeeeeeeeet
Hey, it's their ass, if they don't deliver with this next one! The teaser only "delivered" for fans of the spidey character. Non-fans and skeptics are gonna need a hell of a lot more to peak their interest, and Sony has got to know this.
With the next trailer, they need both showcase spidey wallcrawling, fighting & webslinging in immense fashion (and they SHOULD have enough finished to show off, otherwise it's just poor, it really is). They need to show how different this thing looks compared to the old series. It should be like: "Hoooly almighty ****!!! That looks like a REAL man, webslinging there! Look at that gravity! Did Garfield seriously, freaken just jump of a ****ing building, 70 stories above the streets of Manhattan in that shot I just saw!!!?" Stuff like that!
Next, it needs to display the drama this movie is bound to have in it. It still needs mystery, and not be like all the trailers for Raimi's films, which after you saw them, you knew the whole damn movie! This is where Webb's reboot also has to differ. It should show chemistry and tenderness between Peter and Gwen (God I hope she doesn't come off as a total cock-tease, and an indecisive little *****, like Raimi's MJ. I love Dunst, but not her MJ character!). It should also show off the humor, but it had better not be camp! I'm talking stylish, clever humor here. This trailer must have it all, and bring it full eruption. Don't hold back Sony. the time is NOW. It should be one giant what-the-****-trailer, that'll turn skeptics heads (whether they like it or not!) And we all think the same here, right.
PS. I still dream of a trailer, that ends like this:
Black screen/voice-over from Peter:
"We always have a choice. We can choose to stand & fight . . . or take it lying down"...
We hear the sound of something being dragged. Those sounds will be met with a chilling visual of Spidey, both beaten & unconscious, slowly & spookey fading up on screen... He's being dragged away in a sewer by the lizard, in his own webs.
Cut to black/monstrous frightening roar from lizard/on screen:
