The Official Avengers Thread (Heroic Age Bendis/JRJR) - Part 1

It's always both after and before Labor Day, if you think about it.[/existential bulls***]

Norman's Dark Avengers assemble! Skaar and a villain from the Osborn mini-series will join, the Aztek Spider-God! Now they just need to make Skaar as a manipulative bi-sexual and we got our new Daken! =p

Uh... what's been going on with Skarr? Doesn't he kind of not make sense as a villain?

This is Bendis we're talking about the man who doesn't give a **** about character development in books that aren't written by him. After all, we've already seen him write Bucky Barnes, Daredevil, Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Spider-Man, etc. act completely different than the way they are portrayed in their own books.

When did he write Daredevil different from his own book? He's always been spot on.

Heh, and technically he was writing Hawkeye and Mockingbird first, so maybe it was McCann who wrote them out of character ;)

Spider-Man, he's improved upon from his own title

But yeah... Bucky... he sucked at Bucky. :(

But really people... we have 3 pages of a comic with no text and we're already whining about Bendis writing Skaar out of character?! So far we have him hitting a T-Rex in the face. Last I check that was completely in character! Let's praise that for a change.

DD is the only one from that list he's good at. I don't want to hear any nonsense especially about Spider-Man considering ASM has equaled or outsold Bendis-vengers.

Oh I don't care about sales. If sales were important then criticizing Bendis would be a new thing. But for people like me who hate the entire status quo of Spider-Man since OMD Avengers is the best place for us to get our Spidey fix. It's fun Spidey without the baggage of his personal life nonsense. I do wish Bendis would show Spidey's more pro side but oh well... I'm used to it by now.

"Personal life nonsense"??? You mean the basis of Spider-Man comics since their inception? Oh boy JH, you never cease to amaze me.......

I'm talking about how Daredevil is all bright and cheery now in Mark Waid's book while Bendis has Daredevil using a gun killing Nazis in New Avengers.

Yes, the best part of Spider-Man is Peter Parker and the evolution of his personal life through the years. What we see now no longer resembles that evolution and he's a lesser character due to it. His past no longer matters and Marvel's proven that his present no longer matters either as it can be changed on a whim if desired. Therefore, for me, his personal life is utter nonsense. So being that the best part of Spider-Man is no longer relevant, the witty Spidey persona is all that matters (in my opinion). Bendis gives me that so I'm happy. I wish he'd show the more heroic experienced side of Spidey but if no one else can write Spider-Man properly why expect Bendis to?

So DD should be cheery and happy while fighting Nazis who were trying to bring a mansion down on top of the baby of one of his best friends? I think him being serious for that was very fitting. He did use guns but I don't recall off hand if it showed him actually killing or not (shooting at mechs is different from blowing someone's brains out). And even in that issue we had Cage reference liking Daredevil's new approach at life, and then the last panel had DD in his interview making a nice comment while smiling.

I think Bendis got DD spot on in that issue. He remembered Waid's direction but had him acting accordingly to the situation at hand.

Daredevil shouldn't be happy and cheerful during the events of Fear Itself, but he should be freaking using guns and killing people. Daredevil is one of those heroes who have a strict "no killing" mantra like Spider-Man, Superman, and Batman. Daredevil didn't even kill during Bendis' run.

But having Daredevil kill, kinda goes against what Mark Waid is doing on Daredevil.

Did he actually kill somebody?

Cuz I thought it was just robots. And Robots don't count.

Nazis and Hydra/AIM/etc goons either now that I think about it. :o

Typically nameless goons don't count IMO unless it's someone like Spider-Man or Daredevil who have absurdly strict no killing rules. Captain America, fine. Iron Man, fine. Thor, fine. Daredevil, not fine.

Daredevil has a strict no killing rule? I thought he lost that somewhere along the way...

I don't think it showed him killing anybody. He used a Mech to fire on other mechs but it never showed the drivers dead. As far as we're shown he just rendered them useless. He did run in and tell Squirrel Girl that the danger wasn't over so he obviously didn't finish the job.

Saying he killed them is assumption.

*Ah... I confirmed all is well. If you look at the book DD is shooting the bodies of the Mechs... the drivers are in the head area. Then the next page has him knocking the crap out of the drivers with his billy club and fists. So yes, rendered the mechs useless then took out the drivers.

Still, he probably told SG in that lame ass Bendis stilted dialog. :o

SG "What was tha..."

DD "Nazis!"

SG "Nazis?"

DD "Nazis"

SG "Really?"

DD "Really....in Mecs"

SG "Gafilte fish."

Actually no... but keep trying. There's gotta be something in here to fault Bendis for, right? Just assume and make something up... that's what people tend to do anyhow.

Much like your Spider-Man thing?

Hypocrisy. :o

Bleeding Cool is reporting that we might end up seeing Marvel announce Avengers #1 by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley due to the upcoming Avengers movie. The same way that Marvel launched Invincible Iron Man, Mighty Thor, and Captain America when their movies came out.

Of course, Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America all had more than 20 issues out by the time they relaunched. :o
