The Official Avengers Thread (Heroic Age Bendis/JRJR) - Part 1

I believe Bendis has said he never wants to be Editor in Chief. Which is a shame, he'd actually probably be a good one as he has GOOD ideas, but **** execution.

But I believe I speak forever one when I say; PRAISE THE LAWD HALLEJUAH SWEET JESUS YOU ANSWERED MY PRAYERS.

I think Bendis has stated He doesn't want the job ever. After Avengers he'll still have USM and Moon Knight.I wonder what character he'll want to write next.

Wow... that was unexpected. I'm real curious what happens to the Avengers and what happens to Bendis. I wouldn't mind seeing Slott do the main Avengers title. I think he'd do a great job there. I'm also curious if all these Bendis titles will float or get cut to trim the line some... primarilly New Avengers. That was Bendis' baby and I could easily see them cut it now to keep Avengers and Avengers Assemble going (since Avengers Assemble is to capitolize on the movie).

This is sad though. After all these years they FINALLY got New Avengers to a roster I 100% love. Chances are with Bendis leaving that team it will change or dissolve. Oh well.

I like the Slott on Avengers idea but he may not be able to handle that with his ASM schedule.

And for you Bendis as EiC skeptics, all I gotta say is money talks and bulls**t walks....

Is it too much to hope Joss might be a bit involved with the new series?

Honestly, I'm so over film and TV guys doing comics. Joss is most likely going to go straight back into work on the Avengers sequel after the film releases. He wouldn't be able to get the book out in a timely manner. Astonishing X-Men had it's share of delays despite it's bimonthly schedule. I want the book out every 4 weeks with the occasional double shipping months.

Actually, I just had a thought. Looking at the writers doing Avengers vs. X-Men:

Bendis - Writes Avengers
Fraction - Writes Iron Man and Thor
Brubaker - Writes Captain America
Aaron - Writes Wolverine & the X-Men and Wolverine

The only writer there that, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't do anything X-Men or Avengers related is Hickman. Why's he there? Am I forgetting a title that he writes in relations to A or X? I'm thinking this will be the transition from Bendis to Hickman.

I would love to see Mark Waid take on the Avengers. Also for Noh-Varr to not to die and get his personality back.

Meh...he can have the Captain Marvel title back, the Nega Bands back, whatever. I just want Marvel Boy 2.

Its most definitely going to be one of the "Architects" that'll replace bendis, either aaron, hickman, brubaker or fraction. I say Hickman, with the way he's writing Ultimates, it seems like he knows how to handle teams and make big epic stories, which is what the Avengers should be. As long as he eases on all of the heady, super-science nonsense, he would be my top choice.

I would LOVE Hickman on "Avengers". That said, I wouldn't mind Slott getting another crack at it.

Either way: BENDIS IS DONE ON "AVENGERS"!

Screw that architect nonsense. They're all overrated honestly, just like the "Young Guns" artists from a few years ago. Sure their art was pretty to look at but none of them could hit a freakin deadline to save their life.

Screw that architect nonsense. They're all overrated honestly,

Scalped, The Nightly News, Red Mass for Mars, Casanova, The Other Side, Criminal, Sleeper...I may not agree with the Architect way to handle stories but I would hardly call these guys overrated.

Yea I've never read an awful Brubaker or Aaron story.Bendis I lost faith in a while ago and Fraction burned me out on his writing.Hickman I haven't read enough to judge.

It's about damn time. As for a replacement....Christos Gage. His Avengers Academy book is full of classic members, has an old time Avengers feel and he would totally breath new life into the franchise. Academy may get the axe 6-8 months from now which is probably when Bendis will hang it up. It would make the decision to cancel Academy easier for Marvel and give Gage enough time to wrap stuff up. I would trade Academy for Avengers by Gage, no doubt.

Mark Waid would be my fantasy choice and an overall terrific one. Jeff Parker would be a solid option too. T-Bolts has been rumored for a cancellation/reboot recently, what I said about Academy applies to Parker's T-Bolts.

But Gage....he's the most logical option. And I say cancel New Avengers and the Avengers Assemble. That book is just a ****e capitalizing on the film anyway.

Mark Waid is a far superior choice than Christos Gage. While I love Gage as a writer (his runs on Mighty Avengers, Avengers: The Initiative, and Avengers Academy are vastly superior to Bendis' Avengers work), books like the Avengers need an A-list writer which Gage just isn't.

I also wonder how New Avengers and Avengers Assemble will continue on without Bendis. It probably would be best to just end Avengers Assemble once Bendis leaves because I just see that book tanking once Bendis is gone.

But I don't see Marvel just ending New Avengers, however, I really don't see who is a suitable replacement for Bendis on that book.

Marvel needs to have a "Young Guns" initiative but for writers. Marvel needs to get new, young, fresh artists that could come in and dethrone Bendis. The hottest writers in comics can't be chubby, middle-aged men.

They sorta have been doing that. Jonathan Hickman, Jason Aaron, and Kieron Gillen have had rather fast rises within Marvel. I think they should be doing a better job in getting Christos Gage up there.

Writers progress better at Marvel than DC, it took DC to reboot their continuity to have Gail Simone and Scott Snyder to be put in the A-list stable of DC's writers besides just Grant Morrison and Geoff Johns.

Maybe he'll go back to having Powers coming out monthly.

I'd like to see them continue the book with Bendis but maybe shift it a bit to keep Bendis' statment true. Basically, Luke decides to move away from the Avengers thing but wants to keep the group together so they form their own team separate from the Avengers focusing on street level or something like that.

Like basically the numbering remains the same and the cast stays the same but the name changes to Regulators or something so that Bendis can have more freedom with them and not tie them in with whatever is going in in Avengers.

Should be Waid. He knows how to do big league team books.

Mark Waid would be an ideal choice. :word: Brubaker's Secret Avengers focused too much on Captain America, but he could have learned from past mistakes?

Jason Aaron for New Avengers? He's doing his 1st team-issue with Wolverine and the X-Men. Jonathan Hickman would be awesomesauce, his Ultimates ongoing is the best Avengers and Thor title right now.

I hope Luke Cage keeps a high profile in the Marvel Universe.

No interest in Hickman. I've been reading FF since Torch's death and it's been long, drawn out and a little boring at times. The book needs someone that can keep things moving.
