Wow what a timely bump. Just announced a few minutes ago but she's playing Amy Adams mom in a movie. Which is also starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

Which means that Vicki Vale is going to play Lois Lane's mother! In all seriousness (and I'm not trying to troll or anything), but what happened to
Kim Basinger's career (at least since she won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for
LA Confidential)? It seems like for the past decade, she's been stuck doing all of these small, indie-ish movies that most people haven't heard of. Or if she is in a widely released, mainstream movie (like
8 Mile,
The Sentiel,
Charlie St. Cloud, and
Grudge Match), she's relegated to an otherwise overlooked supporting player.
I don't want to immediately go to her age, because that's way too obvious. It seems like after she bombed out w/ the first two movies that she made (
three years) after her Oscar win (
Bless the Child and
I Dreamed of Africa) Hollywood stopped giving her chances to headline major motion pictures. I don't even count
Cellular, because that to me, was more of a springboard for the future Human Torch and Captain America, Chris Evans, while Kim spent most of the movie crying while locked in a basement.
Whenever I hear about Kim on the news now, it's usually when she is in another squabble w/ her ex-husband, Alec Baldwin or her daughter has to go to rehab. She's recently joined Twitter, but all that she wants to talk about there, is animal welfare.
