Trivia
  • This and "Chemistry" are the only episodes of The New Batman Adventures to feature all four members of the Bat-team (not including Alfred) in the same place at the same time, though Nightwing appears out of costume on both occasions.
  • Two-Face's appearance actually has a double meaning for the new Robin's debut, as the story with him and Tim's father is a connection to Robin's unnamed half, Jason Todd; also, his fight with Robin after Tim was convinced that Batman would need him and came in the Robin suit is similar to Tim Drake's comic debut.
  • The Robin suit display is a clear reference to Jason Todd's memorial in mainstream comics, though Jason doesn't wear the suit himself until the DC Universe Animated Original Movie "Batman: Under the Red Hood" where the suit is put up in the memorial as it is here.
  • When Batgirl unfolds the paper we can clearly see that there is only one imprint of the key; however, having been folded up within the paper, it should be imprinted in two places, not one.
  • When Batgirl is trying to turn off the countdown, it shows us at 10 seconds left, and then again at 5 seconds, and it is five seconds in between them, but if you continue counting down, she would have pulled out the wires at 0 seconds, not 2 as indicated on the machine.

Trivia

  • Mr. Freeze's original character design for Batman: The Animated Series was done by Mike Mignola, at the request of Bruce Timm. Mignola's own comics feature at least two characters who exist as disembodied heads attached to robotic bodies: Herman von Klempt, a mad Nazi scientist whose head is kept in a glass jar, and The Amazing Screw-On Head.
  • Cree Summer and Lauren Tom would both appear together on several episodes of Batman Beyond, as Maxine Gibson and Dana Tan, respectively.
  • This episode features the first appearance of Jack Ryder.
  • This episode has many placement inconsistencies:
    • At the beginning, when the man tells the girls in the parkas they can't be there, he steps towards them, away from the cameraman, but moments later, in another frame, we see him once more back next to the cameraman.
    • When Batman leaps at Mr. Freeze on stage, they slide back behind where the painting once was, but when Freeze tosses him, they are in front of the painting's (former) placement.
    • When Batgirl stumbles upon the Freeze suit, she and Batman hear the voices and run across the room (about seven running steps), yet when they come out, it's simply a narrow hallway that is barely five people wide.
  • When the first shot of the tricentennial celebration is shown, the banner on the stage reads, "GOTHAM TRICINTENNIAL." Later, when Mayor Hill is speaking on the podium, the correct spelling of tricentennial is used.
  • When Batman first goes to the lower level, he needs to use his flashlight, but when he hears the voices (immediately after looking at the Freeze suit), he puts away his flashlight and runs across the room. Doesn't he still need it?
  • Freeze's suit changes in size between shots.
  • Doctor Madsen tells Freeze no-one would buy a stolen fossil; however, the Ultrasaurus is a skeleton, not a fossil.

Trivia

  • This episode marks the first appearance of Scarecrow in The New Batman Adventures. He is given a new, more horrifying appearance and is voiced by Jeffrey Combs, replacing Henry Polic II.
  • The auditorium where Scarecrow's "Never Fear" seminars take place looks like the Pan Pacific Auditorium on Beverly Boulevard, in Hollywood, California. It's a classic example of "art deco", which was the inspiration for the "dark deco" look of the animated Batman series. The auditorium is best known for its appearance in the movie Xanadu.
  • Subway cars have a "deadman's switch" where the operator has to hold a switch down (or a handle in place) to operate the train. If the operator has a heart attack or another serious problem and is disabled the brakes automatically activate. There's no indication of any deadman switch in the train in this episode.
  • At the end of every subway line, there are mechanical trips which activate the train's brakes to prevent the train from running off the end of the line.
  • After Robin ties Batman up, he removes Batman's utility belt. When Batman escapes and catches up with the train, his utility belt is suddenly back.
  • When an electrical line is cut the only way both ends could be sparking is if both are connected to a power source. It's highly unlikely that this would be done in an outdoors overhead power grid.
  • When Robin jumps off the train, he rolls in the same direction as the train rather than rolling in the opposite direction which would've been consistent with Newton's First Law of motion.

Trivia
  • Though Selina's new hair color is left unexplained in the series, Batman: Gotham Adventures #4 sets up the "Lost Year" for Catwoman: she was originally black haired, and dyed her hair blonde. After she found out the brand she used was involved in animal testing, she permanently scarred the firm's owner, Amy Mercedes, and never dyed her hair again.
  • Though he had appeared as Dick Grayson in "Sins of the Father", this is the DCAU debut of Nightwing.
  • Blood is shown twice in this episode, which was a rare sight when the episode was made. Enrique El Gancho cuts Batman's arm and has blood running from his nose.
  • The shipping schedule contains the names of several famous ships:
    • Andrea Doria was an Italian admiral. Several ships were named after him.
    • The S.S. Minnow is the charter boat that ran aground in Gilligan's Island.
    • The HMS Bounty, famous for its mutiny.
  • The civilian shipping schedule includes the HMS Bounty. HMS is a prefix only used by the Royal Navy, and military ships do not appear on civilian schedules. The name is a reference to a famous ship, see below.
  • Catwoman tells Nightwing, "This partner thing is new to me", even though she's worked with Batman multiple times, and once with Batgirl.
  • When Catwoman's escape boat blows up, the resulting explosion is reused footage from the scene of the Superman: The Animated Series episode "World's Finest, Part III" in which two Wayne/Lex T-7 droids blow up after Batman electrocutes them.

was going through some of my stuff and came across this promo poster for TAS when it was getting ready to premier on Cartoon Network back in '98. It's 23X36 and is a card stock.

Trivia

  • During Wesker's walk through the park, Lois Lane and Clark Kent can be seen sitting in the background.
  • Dwarfs Hips and Mrs. Segar are voiced by Billy Barty and Patty Maloney, who are both Dwarfs in real life.
  • Mel Winkler replaces Brock Peters as the voice of Lucius Fox.
  • In the brief shot where Scarface is taunting Batman and Batgirl right before locking them in the vault, the scar on his face has disappeared.
  • When Scarface blows up the bridge, the resulting explosion is reused footage from the scene of the Superman: The Animated Series episode "World's Finest, Part III" in which two Wayne/Lex T-7 droids blow up after Batman electrocutes them.
  • The short scene of the docks before Scarface reveals himself to his goons is reused from the episode "Sins of the Father". Two-Face can even be seen, albeit from a distance.

The New Batman Adventures Episode: Joker's Millions

Trivia

  • The episode is directly based on the comic book story "Joker's Millions", first published in Detective Comics #180 in February 1952.
  • There are also some similarities with the 1985 film Brewster's Millions, including the mocking videotape message delivered to the main character (Richard Pryor) by his elderly benefactor (Hume Cronyn). "Brewster's Millions" was first published as a novel in 1902, and adapted to film in 1914 and 1921 (though the 1985 version remains the most well-known); it thus may have partially inspired the original comics story.
  • Joker must be entirely destitute: Small-caliber bullets (like the .22 rounds Joker's handgun uses) were pennies each at the time this episode was made, especially in the United States. Magazines, however, are much more expensive. Joker is seen ejecting one and leaving it at the scene.
  • This is Penguin's first appearance in The New Batman Adventures; his appearance, which at first was deliberately modeled after that of the freakish Danny DeVito version of the character in Batman Returns, is remade to be more of the normal, classic version of the character before that movie came out. It is also the first appearance of his Iceberg Lounge and kicks off Penguin's new gimmick in the series, where he wears the public facade of a legitimate businessman.
  • Harley's police officer costume resembles the one she wore during her first appearance in Batman: The Animated Series, "Joker's Favor".
  • The episode contains a musical montage of Joker enjoying his fortune. The music from this montage would be reused in a different montage in Superman: The Animated Series, "Superman's Pal".
  • The male candidate for replacement Harley is based on writer Paul Dini, although his voice more closely resembles the Freakazoid! character Fanboy.
  • The scene where Joker uses lawyers to buy his freedom is a satire of the O.J. Simpson murder case. One of the Joker's lawyers resembles Johnnie Cochran, one of Simpson's defense attorneys. The lawyer's statement, "If a man's filled with glee, that man must go free!" is a clear parody of Cochran's now-famous catchphrase regarding a glove; "If it does not fit, you must acquit!" This phrase was parodied twice more during the DCAU, in the The New Batman Adventures episode "Over the Edge" and the Justice League episode "In Blackest Night".
  • In the comics, being declared insane is the only thing that saves Joker from the death penalty, which his crimes have merited many times over. Similarly, the insanity defense has worked for pretty much every "revolving door" Bat-villain in Arkham Asylum. His frustration with this system led Lyle Bolton to become the vigilante Lock-Up.
  • When the Joker blows up the TV set, the resulting explosion is reused footage from the scene of the Superman: The Animated Series episode, "World's Finest, Part III" where one Wayne/Lex T-7 blows up another droid.
