That was actually my least favorite Alfred moment in the book it seemed so hokey typical Winnick over the top melodrama. My favorite one came right after when he's talking to Dick.
"They won't care. They'll want to have one of their costumed parades. A half mile of spandex and body armor all lined up behind an empty coffin with a cape draped over it. NO don't let them tale it away from him. All he has now is what he was...and that must go on. Do you hear me?"
now that is what Alfred would do, always preserve what Bruce stood for, keep the symbol going because it was everything to him. That was great characterization by Winnick which shocked me but is what really sold me on the issue and prepared me for the rest.
