Batman Returns is such an awesome movie!it feels so mysterious and dark, especially because it takes place in the winter time.

Returns is a horrible follow up to Batman. The Penguin was ruined, those midgets in emperor penguin costumes are so stupid, all in all weird.

actually, it has very mcuh to do with penguin, as he has a very big "bird" fetish. its part of the character, in the film and comics. you probably just dont like penguin in general, cuz if you did, you wouldnt be complaining. penguin is penguin, end of story.

and i agree HarleenQuinzel90, Batman Returns is an awsome Batman film. ppl just dont get it is cuz they are brain washed by BB. its sad.:(

You made no sense at all. I like the Penguin but that wasn't him in Returns that was some goth Burton character that should be in one of his stop motion movies, you're the one brain washed by Burton. 89 was good but this crap is in no way a sequel to that great movie. I know Oswald's into birds, those penguins in the movie looked fake and stupid.

has anyone bought the dvd yet? if so, was it worth getting the new version or is the orginal dvd all you need?

True,Batman Returns isnt a sequal, If you have watched the new SE DVD, Burton says this is not a sequal in any means that it takes off right after B89, What he means is it can be 10-15 years after B89 took place.
So its not a sequal as you said.

Most of the Penguins in the movie was real life penguins, mixed whit fake puppets and midgets in penguin suits, The main reason that is, is because they used 4 diffrent Penguiins in the movie, All penguins isnt in the same size since its diffrent spieces.

Everyone have their own opinion, And i think.. the main reason people say Batman Returns isnt a good batman movie.. Is because they dont get the plot.
Its not exactly a kid movie as Burton said, So a little thinking is needed in this movie to figure out that its really a masterpiece:up:

I have the new DVD, Its well worth it.
****load of extra stuff.. and thats what you are paying for.
Not only that.. the Movie quality is much better also, It looks to be recorded this year and not 1992, Very big diffrence then the original DVD version.

Ok I am going to describe a couple things so please bare with me. First of all I got to say yes, Batman Returns is easily the best of the batman movies, followed only by Batman 89.

I saw it in 1992, like alot of you I am sure, and I was nine at the time, or eight,...but anyways, I thought it was so awesome and perfect. After the movie ended I was excited cause I thhought, great Batman 3, bring on Keaton, Burton, and maybe Catwoman would be in it, which I dreamed would happen. Of couse if that did happen you could only get Michelle for the character, all others are just substitutes for the real thing.

But alas it didn't happen and we get Batman Forever. What I don't understand is I saw this movie with my mom and dad, (BR) my dad thought it was hilarious, when Batman lite the devil guy on fire and put the bomb on the big muscular guy. My mom liked it to, and I didn't at all find it scary, so why was Warner and Micky-D saying "Oh its to dark for kids". That is complete and utter BS! It seems like right when Hollywood gets a great formula, they have to **** it up! It happened in Superman, and it, unfortunatly, happened in Batman.

And it wasn't until seeing Batman Returns that I definetly understood, that Keaton was, and will always be Batman, end of story. His potrayal in BR just clicked with me, it seemed better then Batman 89. Heres hoping somehow, someway Burton comes back and makes another Batman movie with Keaton...I can dream...can't I?

Just watched this movie the other night. I can honestly say that this is the most fun of all of the Batman Films next to Batman Begins. Tim Burton is a creative genious, and Micheal Keton did a great job in the film. However, I will admit, that the ONLY problem I have with this movie was the ending. I thought it was a bit weak, do to the fact that Batman doesn't actually SAVE the city. He doesn't actually BRING the villians to JUSTICE.. The villans end up outsting themselves out. I mean, Catwomen zaps Shreck, causeing the generator to explode and thus, destroyed. This is what killed the Penquin off. I didn't realize it when I was a kid. Without his air, he died. He was a cold blooded penquin, and obviously, needed that cold climate. Interesting though the way they decided to do that. However, I still think the ending lacked a bit. It was awsome watching the Penquin rise from the sewage though! Bad ass! Very creepy looking. I remember seeing that in the previews and thinking, "What in the heck was that?" I thought it was really neat looking! Again, just a very fun, fun, movie! Visually, the best Batman to date, next to Begins!

I have to admit its kind of say watching the end of BR knowing what follows after it...:(

and knowing that the Selina Kyle/Bruce Wayne relationship will never be resolved...

Well there's something I can agree with. :)

Batman Returns is not only a great Batman film, but a great film in general (like Begins). all the actors really put there all into it, and alot of ppl and critics still feel michelle pfeiffer should have gotten nomintated for an oscar for BR rather then her other film that year, "love field", which she was. and danny devitos penguin was genius, IMO there WAS nothing to ruin as the penguin character was boring and useless as hell till burton came along.

also, the fact that it takes place around christmas gives it a very emotional feel, as that is a time of careing and giveing and love, yet all this mischief and mayhem is happening between all these characters. veeery interesting take on burtons part, the only Batman film to take place dueing Christmas and have snow, just like BB was the only Batman film to have Batman in rain (and i guess B89 takes place in summer, lol).

also, for anyone who wants to say that BB is darker then BR, IT AINT.

I love this film for so many different reasons. When I was little (I'm 19 now) I watched it every weekend simply because I was obsessed by it. They say the best lines, the costumes are great (it was the best batsuit, and at least you could see that Selina made her own) and the music has to be one of the best in a movie ever. I admire the way Burton was brave enough to show Catwoman treated like she was, you hardly ever see violence against women, let alone how it ended. I was definately on her side throughout the film. The ending is sad, unlike the usual generic finalies, which makes it refreshing to watch.
It's a fantasy, fairy tale film, but I believe it does Batman justice, people complain that it had nothing to do with Batman, but I think it has all the essential ingredients needed. Some people say the Penguin was nothing like his comic book character, that coming from a sewer was stupid, but he was a funny looking man who tried to be respectable in public, while being a crime boss in private. Same as the comics.
In my eyes this film is perfect, clearly not for children, but still perfect.

I liked BR. I initally had trouble with the bizzarro approach to the penguin, but as many have stated in other threads, as well as burton himself, it made the character much more interesting than being just a crime boss

the essence of his character (lowly, down and dirty crime boss aiming for something higher:respect and to be part of the elite) was hightened by making him someone who literally lived in the sewers, and did a deal with the "big guy, the one who runs the show" (who also lived in the highest building aorund) and the reclaiming of his family name addeed to this.

However, whilst I liked the look, the Dickensness nature of him (speaking as someone whos never read Dickens) and his modus operandi, i think the slime, face biting and fish eating were a bit much, as were the army of penguins.

The very best scene in BR

Catwoman: *flip flip flip flip* Meow...

BOOM

Agreed.

Not neccessarily. Both are "darker" in different ways. BEGINS is darker in that the concepts of crime, terrorism, and corruption are all very real and quite frightning considering all are to an extent realistic possibilities to happen in ANYONE'S city. Batman Returns is alot darker in terms of look and feel of the film.

I think Returns is fairly realistic, just twisted up and almost comedic in a fun-house mirror kind-of way.

Batman Returns is very good movie but Batman wasn't in it that much and Burton focused on the villians more then Batman himself neverless it's not crap like Batman & Robin.
